You're probably right, but it is still highly entertaining to see them squirm while undergoing their humiliation ritual. What's more important, though, is that normal people hear it and think, "hey, I agree with him!". I think their attempt to act like they are being reprimanded may backfire if it resonates with enough people. If it doesn't and everything stays the same, at least it was good for a few laughs.

Yeah, I had the same feeling reading some of his comments afterwards. He can say what he wants about “playing to the viewers” and ”laughing at ourselves” but there is clearly some anger right below the surface -esp. about Hart - and he’s chanelling it well, without coming across as too sanctimonious or whiny.

It’s as close as we’re going to get to a CM Punk “pipe bomb” moment from Hollywood. Whether it’s real or fake, scripted or not, it at least acknowledges that they know OTHER people think it even if they thenselves won’t accept it.
If this is scripted, it's likely just being done for ratings cause I don't see how this being scripted will get people to stop bashing Hollywood given Gervais is bashing Hollywood and he is being praised for bashing it just like everyone else.

I wonder if some actors, deep down, kind of miss the studio system? That’s just a feeling I get from listening to them sometimes, especially when situations like this arise. Guaranteed movie roles by contract, the questions they get asked and answer are screened first. Sometimes I think Hollywood’s desire for socialism is really a desire for some kind of return to the old system.
Never been a fan of Gervais, but it's probably good to exceed hurtful truth level with ivory tower rich people once in a while.
The only thing that makes me question it being scripted was that Jennifer Aniston muttered something when they went on stage to make their presentation right after Ricky Gervais called them out on working with Apple. It was a quick moment and she said something like "we're supposed to act like nothing happened," or some kind of complaint about how awkward it was. I wish I had written it down because nobody has talked about it.

I highly doubt he's a Trump supporter. He's just telling you people what you want to hear. Half the time he's an SJW but when he says some lame rehashed Caitlyn Jenner joke or says Epstein didn't kill himself he's B-B-B-BASED and you all want to suck his dick.
I didn't say Gervais is a Trump supporter, I just said how many people blasted him and accused him of being one.
Also this makes it sound like it's more of an ego-trip for Gervais than some grand conspiracy to get people to love Hollywood like you implied earlier.

I find it hard to think it was scripted because the guy mentioned China, Apple and Greta who are sacred cows for Hollywood. If he was scripted he would have only talked about pedos and wokes.

The whole Jeffery Epstein bit was fucking weird. There was a few chuckles and then mostly groans. Until he followed up with the next zinger. Anyone know how many celebs were Jeff's little black book? It seemed like they were actually offended that he memed a pedo. And I'll give him a old pat on the back for going after Tim Apple. Also all the libshits like moviebob losing their minds because funny British man mean.
The reaction from this is weird. Obviously troons and Twitterfags hate it because they hate when anyone ever jokes about "you can't tell jokes about so-and-so". Reddit hates that as well, but then when I go on /pol/ or /tv/, people think that this is a scripted attempt to let people back off of Hollywood with the awareness that at least one (or two) people know that it's bullshit so that CONSOOMPTION can continue.

If you've watched his Netflix show (After Life, I think?), that's pretty much his character. Maybe because the second season is coming out, he was just putting on the character to get people interested. Either way, you can know it's scripted and still think it is funny. Because what he said was true. And it's rare that someone ever says anything truthful about Hollywood on prime time television. It's not going to change the world -- but it should be celebrated for its truth. Even if it only encourages a few more people to be more outspoken in their criticism of Hollywood, at least it is a small step in the right direction.

If there was someone I did trust in their beliefs to call out the industry, it would be Anthony Hopkins and Terry Gilliam. Hopkins admitting the useless of the acting form in similarity to how actors were considered low-tier during pre-Baroque era having been a classically trained actor and Gilliam because he seems to be that kind of guy already. Still not sure about Gervais.
I get it. I'm not actually a huge fan of Gervais really, although he can play a cynical asshole role pretty well. I've admired him a little more lately because he's been willing to stand up to the transgender stuff in a country where they just ruled that belief in only 2 biological sexes is not a protected ideology and you can be fired for saying a transgender woman is actually a biological man. So, this is 2 instances of saying things that I agree with, so maybe I'm just willing to give him a pass because I'm just glad that somebody said it and that it allows other people to talk about what he said.
Unless he's ready to walk away from show biz altogether, he'll likely go back to kissing ass again. But, I just like being able to quote him saying that having your meat and 2 veg polished is not a human right about the whole Yaniv "wax my lady balls" fiasco.

If you haven't heard of her, she was a giant HP sperg, part of Cassandra Clare's circle of bitches that also collapsed when they started infighting. Hollywood swapped glamor and style for idpol, soulless egotistical nihilism and swapping American accent for the British accent to appear smart. Anyone believe the American actors and actresses would volunteer to fight for the United States when a real war kicks off like the Golden age guys and gals did. And when I say real war, I mean fighting a nation with a above average air force and excellent air defense system.
