Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling - Netflix

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Looking into some solutions.

Holy shit, I thought this was lost in the ether when Nickelodean changed management. I was excited for the initial trailer despite never growing up with the show, so I'm glad it's finally getting a release.

Oh boy, here we go again!
I haven't seen this trailer in awhile. Feels like years since I last seen it. So anyhow, they rebooted Rocko's Modern Life for Netflix only to make each episode based around the same joke: Rocko and his friends are not in 90's anymore and so Har-dy-har-har kids! Kill me now!

Not every children's cartoon can successfully pull off a parody of an Orson Welles pea commercial.

Last I remember, Static Cling was a special, not an entire series. Same with the Invader Zim one. I heard that because the Arnold special didn't get all that good of ratings, Nickelodeon dumped both specials onto Netflix instead risking airing them during times they can show spongebob reruns or whatever new shows people watch on there now and have them meet similar reception.

I believe that new seasons are only on the table if the specials do well.

It seems like the overall joke will be less Rocko being 90s trapped and more them making fun of reboots and revivals overall.

And contrary to what some of you niggers may think, this thing dates as far back as 2017 and has the original creator on-board
Yep, be happy we're finally seeing this at all.

It seems like it's going for a meta-narrative take on 90's show reboots/revivals, with Ralph Bighead being the creator surrogate like he was in the original series, and Rocko acting as the audience surrogate.

(Like someone here said: I put the blame on Nick for everyone's first impression of this upon viewing the first trailer being "HUR-DUR LOOK HOW DIFFERENT THE 2010'S ARE! THIS AIN'T YOUR DADDY'S SHOW ANYMORE, HURP-A-DERP" the special, over what I'm now assuming was just some quick culture shock gags at the beginning.)

I gotta admit, I'm a lot more interested now than I was before: during the original show's run, Joe Murray and his team seemed much more in tune with understanding their audience and what they liked vs. what would sell, more so than other Nicktoons at the time (see literally any of the episodes that feature Ralph Bighead). So given this seems to be what they're going for, most of the original team is back at the helm (save for Stephen Hillenburg, God rest his soul), and that extra care was taken to replicate the original cel-animated imperfections as best as they could, and this is the story they're set on telling...

...You have my attention, Nickelodeon.
