People really are under the impression it's still the same small independent company of close friends driven by enjoying the work they do from over 15 years ago
Says a fucking lot about both the company (who tried their utmost best to keep that fake image going strong) and the fans (who are too blinded by nostalgia to realise what RT has become) actually.

Any law nerds know potentially why they could not accept the funds? :\ "The donations were under false pretenses"? At least they're making sure they give the money they got back.
There's maybe three reasons:

* Less legal, more the bosses at AT&T thinking that having to have fans pay for your staff's living conditions reflects poorly on them.

* RT as a for-profit company have to be very careful about charity.

* Whoever they contacted wasn't a good enough representative of the company or was just stringing them along to take the money and run, and as such the actual bosses shut it down.

They saw the part about paying reddit mods and shut it down. Cant let jannies get treated like people. Theyll get uppity and stop doing it for free.

I don't think they ever said anything about paying Reddit mods.
Oh maybe. I read the end of the first paragraph as "the moderating team was ready to accept the funds" but maybe meant "we showed the message to the moderating team." Its a clusterfuck of a run on in a clusterfuck of a situation.
Still, eid seinnaj eid.

I think it's likely the first one in huge part, and maybe a bit of the second. Most likely, the donations would be qualified as taxable income for the company, so it's much easier for them to just reject the offer outright than to deal with that down the line. Either that, or there's a non-zero chance that RT has stopped paying certain employees but continues to pay others, so accepting the donation would mean a lot of crew members sharing their story about "sacrificing for the greater good" while the big-wigs are still giving themselves a fat paycheck. The latter is obviously more farfetched, though not completely out of the realm of possibility.

I also think there was a bit of a PR gambit being played by RT there; they told the organizers to redistribute the money to charity, which is not only transparently insane to do with other people's money (as the OP said, they - both meaning the organizers and RT - can't decide for the fans what to do with THEIR money), but definitely would've gotten mentioned constantly and spun as RT being such a kind, self-sacrificing company that they'd turn down the money in their time of need and give it to those less fortunate instead. I think the organizers at least seem to have understood that much, so going through with the refund was the right choice.

Incidentally, though, this really does make me wonder if ANY staff members at RT are getting paid during the emergency situation. To my understanding the majority of their employees are salaried, so they SHOULD be getting income, but we know from experience that what RT says and what they do are completely different things. Hell, the GFM organizer literally said it in that thread:

Ipso facto, the idea of them refusing to pay their workers and then rejecting a massively charitable donation to them is both horrifying and highly plausible. The fact that they won't just come out and say what their relief plan is is also a bit concerning; it's not like it should really be a secret, right?

this is kind of a dipshit tweet, tho. onlyfans wasn't intended to be a platform specifically for posting explicit content, and you're not taking away a lewd-seeking audience by not posting lewds. this is like saying kitten videos dilute the market of horror short films on youtube.

I just realized the language behind "sex worker" is the mirror of "sexual assault": An umbrella term which is almost useless in describing its subject. If you use this language, a 19 year old who lazily posts a bra picture (taken at work) along with a link to her amazon wishlist is the same as a professional escort who gets in bed with disgusting fat men to make a living. Just as someone getting groped on a train is now equal to someone getting brutally gang-raped.

Obviously they're not the same, but it serves these people a lot when all "sex workers" are equally virtuous and brave and all "sexual assault" is equally horrific and traumatizing. This way, some lazy NEET can call herself a survivor of sexual assault and a brave sex worker, and no one can call her on it.

LMAO..... Is "Do you have onlyfans?" the socially acceptable way of asking to see tits now?
"My lady, we have been dating for three weeks now. I have bought you dinner every time as courtship. And now I must ask: Do you have an OnlyFans account from which I may partake in the enjoyment of your breasts, and perhaps a crumb of pussy?"

Aren't these Porn Stars and not Sex Workers? Unless she's implying people are using only fans as some back-page classifieds to sell their bodies.

When I purchase services from a sex worker I don't expect to just get a link to an only fans gallery.

Jeremy does, Michael does, Alfredo does.
Michael and Alfredo stream with Meg and Alfredos gf Jackie alot.

EDIT: Jack streams too but Jack has the personality of paint drying so I forgot him.
Speaking jack stream I decided to see exactly how bad it was. And my god was it fucking terrible here was the problems I saw with his stream. 1 he doesn’t look at chat and interact with them he had like 243 viewers and nothing he doesn’t acknowledge them aside the people who cheer bits and also his chat was nearly dead, like nothing just your occasional message but other than the chat was dead and I’ve seen streamer with 30 viewers and the chat is alive and well you got multiple conversations between other chat members and the streamer is actively talk to chat. 2 he rarely talk like he doesn’t have anything to say maybe the occasional hum or comment about the game but he is just too quiet. Like cmon man get some bit alerts and liven up your streams and funny enough his streams really are like watching paint dry. And now for the final point and this is mostly my opinion. He just doesn’t play games that are fun to watch he’s been playing AC Valhalla and it’s just boring to watch him it he doesn’t take risks in the game to make it any funner to watch and that coupled with his personality just makes an overall boring stream.

It is, Jack is the answer to the question "What's the human version of watching paint dry?"

I totally don't get why he has viewers at all. Like is it just... "OH HEY IT'S THAT AH GUY!" or what... it can't be his personality.

lmao what the fuck? This is like a bunch of indie bands posting their shit on Bandcamp, and then Bruce Springsteen comes along and puts his discography on Bandcamp, too. Should he not be allowed to that? Does that create a "toxic dynamic?" As if Bruce Springsteen being on there really fucks over some dude's folk-punk band based in Hawaii. If anything, I'd argue that it's good because it draws more people to the platform. Sure, a lot of them are there for the Boss, but hey, Hawaiian folk-punk might show up in a recommended tab, and the buyers might go check it out, after they finish buying Springsteen's work.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't OnlyFans meant to be similar to Patreon, where you just pay content creators more directly for access to their works, be it music, paintings, whatever, and then it just became known for the number one e-whoring platform? Also also, we're getting to a point where whenever I hear something described as "toxic," I immediately assume whoever is saying it is completely full of shit, and their opinion does not matter

What you describe is actually better than what I thought it would be. I figured he'd just talk politics the whole time.
