I watched the shit out of Rugrats as a kid and loved it. A few years back I rewatched a few episodes for old time’s sake and found out that like many cartoons, the writing didn’t age well. Sure, it was quirky and had a certain charm to its humor at the time but that appeal faded compared to other cartoons that tried to maximize on the quirk aspect and succeeded (classic spongebob and jimmy neutron, for example).

I can’t possibly imagine how the writers will try to pull content from a source material that’s long been dead. There is no way that their tongue in cheek humor will fare well enough to be anything but lame. I’m not even taking into account the fact that this train wreck will be live action, either.

Real talk though Rugrats in Paris was actually pretty good

Pretty much this.

For reference, here is what the N64 CG for Rugrats looked like. I predict similar amounts of nightmare fuel for this live-action movie.

I actually initially thought they would show the Rugrats being grown ups in live action when I saw the title (which the concept can be a hit or miss), but a live action reboot about babies?

How can this even work?

I actually really loved Rugrats as a kid but I remember it getting pretty stale sometime after the Paris movie. The good shit ended with that movie and the bad shit started during that Wild Thornberrys crossover. Bruce Willis as the dog was completely insufferable.

Either way, not looking forward to this. At the time the show came out, kids were used to a lot slower-paced cartoons back then instead of the crazy shit they have now. It won't age well with them. Also CGI babies are pure nightmare fuel.
