So, as many of you likely know, I've been stupidly excited for this game since they very first teaser they released for it. But today is the day my friends, the game has released and in honor of such, I've changed my profile picture back to my longstanding one.

That said, mostly just want to share that it's been released, and at $20, it's a pretty great price. I haven't had the chance to play it yet today due to a long work day, but I'll have more hands on for it tomorrow.

I bought it few hours ago, but haven't played it yet because I'm tired af. As it is, main reason I ever noticed it was because of your av months ago, @JSGOTI , so, thanks for being a bad influence. As it is, since I've been playing a glut of sneaky stealthy stabby games as of late, this should be an excellent palette cleanser.

You're welcome buddy! I can't help that the avatar is kind of amazing.
We'll have to talk about it when we're both not so fucking tired.

I still need to play Absolver before I tackle this one. Fun fact, Special Reserves games will be doing a physical release for this as well:

Okay my friends, I finally had the chance to sit down and play this game, and by play, I mean that I just threw the last seven hours of my life into the game, and I loved every moment of it.

First of all, RUINER is a damned beautiful game. The art style that prevails throughout not only serves to be unique, but it really helps create a suitable atmosphere for this cyberpunk dystopia. RUINER is an isometic that acts somewhat like a twin stick shooter with WASD for movement, and the mouse for aiming. The controls are responsive and
So while the game was a little quirky to get used to, due to the mechanics and otherwise, once you pick up just how intuitive it is, the game grows in leaps and bounds as you progress, allowing you to play the game the way that YOU want to play it, within reason. If you want to focus on gunplay, go right ahead. If you want to be able to hack other peoples brains and turn them into allies, you can do that too! If you just want to beat people in the face with swords and hammers, go for it!

If anyone here has played Hotline Miami or Transistor, think of RUINER as some sort of bastard child of the two, but in the best of ways, and even then, I'm not sure that comparison does it justice. It can absolutely be a frustrating game, because it bills itself as being a difficult game, and lives up to that expectation whole-heartedly. Expect to die, a lot, even moreso if you're running it at Normal difficulty, much less Hard. I know that I turned the difficulty down to 'Easy' to begin with just so I could get accustomed to the combat system, and even then, it can be rather rough on you at points.

The Boss battles are where I think that the game really shines, because each one has some rather unique mechanics that just make it all so memorable, and I won't be sharing any screenshots of those, as I don't want to spoil the game for the rest of you.

Even the art in the splash screens for the bosses/major characters have a great attention to detail, giving all the more life to the world that they've created

And, we can't forget the music of the game, as well, which just helps shape the world that little bit more.

So, everything said and done with, do I feel the game is worth the $20 price tag?

For me, it absolutely is. Even with just the time that I've sunk into it(and beaten it on Easy), I've enjoyed the game enough to know that I'll be coming back to it to 100% it for the achievements, though I might change my mind once I start my way in on Hard mode. As of right now, don't bother dropping money for the soundtrack, as it's not currently downloadable. When it -is- fixed, I'll be posting the full album up somewhere for people to download.

"Her" is cute as fuck

Aside from artism, this game is starting to strike a cord a bit more with Furi than Hotline Miami. Super strong Japanese influence, incredible challenge that feels satisfying to overcome, mediocre KB+M controls, an art style that really stands out, silent protagonists, pretty much same camera style, dodge-heavy gameplay, and each GotY for their respective years. The real main difference between them is that Furi obviously prides itself on its fantastic boss design with the entire game being a boss rush while Ruiner shines more in the "turn all these enemies on screen into a bloody fucking pulp puppy" side than it does too much in boss battles.

Got the game on GOG, died to the first boss 6 times on normal difficulty. Seventh attempt I invaded his personal space with my melee weapon. Not a bad game. Also, I noticed from the pins on HER. One of her pins is the Brand of Sacrifice from Berserk.

People saying the Kinetic Barrier is shit are literally retarded. That thing fully upgraded is amazing at crowd control. Started a new playthrough with that thing and supply drop. Shreds bosses like Mother hard. Waiting to see how it does on Minotaur. Had trouble with Shadow, but that was really my only issue. I can just call in a Vulcan and deal so much damage while getting so much energy back after putting down 3 shields that each slow down enemies and hurt them.

Yeah, the art is amazing.

Also it's dumb but the way "Her" uses emoticons when she's talking makes me laugh. I'm looking forward to the DLC, which is really a rare sentence.
