Are these from the same sources that said he was in a coma or dead to begin with? Political purges in North Korea don't just happen quietly, they always make a big show that some general or politician is being "removed" for "corruption" or random other crimes and subsequently are never seen again because they're taken on a trip to that firing range outside Pyongyang with the mortars and AA guns.
