I think it's because of his saggy eyes,when you give him a smile, his eyes look like theyre smiling too. Like, when a person smiles, genuinely, their eyes typically scrunch up a little bit, and it actually makes them look a little more genuine, friendly, and happy and welcoming or approachable. His eyes arent that, but your brain is perceiving it that way; he would look different if you ran him through face app but tried to give him a more neutral expression. In this one very specific instance, his naturally downturned eyes count in his favor and make him look more normal and better than he otherwise would; this is probably the closest thing to a 'win' Russ has ever gotten.

I love how he thinks he's being inspirational in these Facebook posts when they're really just posts about him paying money and fucking a hooker. They're dripping with that insincere self-help styled narration that it's clear that Russ views himself as a hero and that he does no wrong. Talk about narcissism.

To me, it’s his facial hair that squicks me out—his mustache looks like nose hairs gone wild. If he spent money on a decent haircut and beard trim, more flattering glasses frames and actually worked out, I think he’d look less weird. His personality has been shaped by people’s responses to his face, though, and to reverse that would take a lot of therapy.

Therapy doesn't work until you admit there is a problem and are open to changing an aspect of yourself. Russ can't do either of those things. He thinks he's a master liar and manipulator (based off his trying to throw people off the trail during his Reno trip), but he isn't. Never will be. That's why the archive KF builds is important, he can't get away with anything because we can refute it with proof and he hates that so much.

Sometimes I think he genuinely tries to improve his exterior look, but his internal uglieness comes through with such force it defeats all efforts. So I guess he's just given up.

It does more than shine through. Personally I wonder if he was one of those people that was just "born" bad? Sure his upbringing contributed to this as well but there's more to it than just that. It reminds of the story of Nero, he was the only son of Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus and Agrippina the Younger. Supposedly his own father said "nothing good can ever come from us", which later rang true after all considering Nero turned out to be insane like his uncle Caligula(his mother's brother). Perhaps Russell Greer is one of these particular people, doesn't matter what environment they're in they always go bad. I even wonder if him having Moebius Syndrome is the universe's way of making his personality match his appearance. While he doesn't have a severe case he definitely doesn't have a mild or slight case of Moebius. Granted as awful as this affliction is I would never in a million years call a person with Moebius ugly or call them a freak. The reason I consider Russell Greer to be a hideous monster is because his personality is atrocious, he could've been handsome and loved and admired by others and inspirational. Yet he chooses to inflict himself upon others with his rampant narcissistic personality, he demands that people bend to his every little whim or else and lashes out like a spoiled brat in a candy shop whenever he is denied or when things don't happen at his preferred pace. His paralysis matches him to a t; twisted, vile, unyielding, putrid, difficult and unwilling to change for the better. His eyes are no different, I'm sure many have heard of the saying "the eyes are the window to the soul" plenty of times and this couldn't be a more accurate saying for Russell. When you first look at his eyes you notice that they are a light blue in color and a tad crooked, yet they lack that certain spark of life one would associate with the eyes of most people. They lack true joy, contentment and warmth. They feel dead and cold as if the person staring at you is barely alive if alive at all. They look glazed over as oppose to shiny, as if they'll be cloudy soon the longer their owner is dead. Everything about Russell Greer's looks match his personality from his twisted face to his dead soulless eyes. He's essentially the living embodiment of misery with added narcissism and a strong disconnect from reality.

This was actually a pretty entertaining read and you bring up several excellent points. However, I think that Russ is the product of a massive ego and his upbringing. It sounds like he was spoiled rotten by his adopted parents and LDS community and made out to be some messenger of god.

Was Russ born this way? No one can say for sure. I'd be willing to bet that his upbringing plays more into his narcissism then just being born bad.

Nero also became emperor at age 16, basically a living God whose word was law. Look at all the little rich kids that are absolute shit human beings and we might find some "nuture" to Nero's issues. He was told he was special, could do anything he wanted... sound familiar?

(edit: also, not necessarily applicable to Russ but when Nero was finally left without any allies and learned- perhaps erroneously- that he was to be beaten to death for his crimes, he decided to kill himself. But because he was such a pussy, he told one of his servants to commit suicide first as an example. It was only when his would-be captors were basically on the doorstep that he ended up taking a knife to the throat, likely with the help of a servant because he couldn't do it himself)

Exactly. This is what I think fucked him up more than anything. He was supposed to be Bret Ross, living in Hollywood, making sweet money and screwing 10s in “the biz.”

But his mother gave him away, and kept his sister. Steph gets to work in the biz, so his brother knows it is possible.

But he was thrown away, by WOMEN because of his FACE. He’s stuck in snowy Utah, as Russell Greer, unable to even hold down an entry level job, knowing he was a nerve away from being Bret.

The rage is overwhelming.

The fact that a nice family took him and raised him didn’t make a dent.

For the record, I too think it’s too late for him to recover from what he’s been twisted into. If people started treating him nicer because he’s not so obviously ill, if he could smile and look friendly, he’d become more of a user and a user and not less. He’d just find a schtick other than muh disability.
