Private intimate relationships are generally protected from governmental intrusion while business\commercial transactions are not. That's the point he is failing to understand; that the government has the ability to intrude upon a transaction in ways that it cannot (any longer) between two people who just decide to fuck (exceptions apply; age, etc).

Needless to say, his entire post is nonsense. Craigslist personal ads were not shuttered because the government cannot tell the difference between a "one night stand" and prostitution. It was shuttered because Craigslist doesn't want to be held responsible when it cannot weed out the prostitution posts from the non-$$$ posts. Backpage was shuttered because a judge was convinced that it was knowingly allowing prostitution to be advertised. Russ takes this to somehow prove his point that prostitution is no different than a non-transactional encounter (jokes about girls getting taken out to eat aside).

But Russ goes on to suggest that his opinion has merit because he's the guy who's challenging the brothel laws of Utah.
So let me add on to Viridian's excellent post to say, no one cares, Russ. You aren't a civil rights leader. You aren't Martin Luther King Jr. The few people who actually know about your brothel quest are trying very hard to forget about it, and that probably includes the judge who is overseeing it.

I've always found it particularly funny that, of all places, Russell wants to legalize brothels in UTAH. I literally cannot think of a place in the USA that is less likely to legalize brothels.

Cragislist shuttering had nothing to due with one night stands. The whole thing behind FOSTA is actually human/sex trafficking, specially in children, and it's not just about the offerings, it's about the thirsty wanted ads. Traffickers don't just go online/craigslist ads and type:
"Now available 57 women looking for friends, a good time or maybe even love! Ages 9 through 43 from Thailand to Ethiopia, Brazil, Mexico, you name em we got em! Some domestic too for the local fellas. We can meet at your place or discreet locations. Cash or square payments only. Send reply that contains the subject "I'm not a cop this isn't a trap" so I know you are serious"

Instead traffickers mostly go on there and look for posts from people looking for company, of whatever ethnicity, hopefully young, etc and then they cater to them directly. It's all "word of mouth from there"

So basically this isnt the government trying to stop acts that "aren't meant for family rearing and spread STDs" like fuck face said, it's actually the government allowing the websites that enable that to be liable for not being vigilant of their ads or not taking action to moderate content. Craigslist is a prime example of why this law is important, instead of just monitoring their content they decided to just not allow any content because the risk to them is too big, why? because they know it happens all the time and they dont want to be bothered or sued, specially since it's free ads.
