World Russia wants to cut itself off from the global internet. Here’s what that really means. -

When I was in college, "Russia" was still "The USSR" and there was a running gag that the Soviets had a Usenet server called Kremvax, and some rare humor-enabled Russians actually heard about it and set up a real Kremvax domain in 1991 or thereabouts.

Looks like we're headed back to that time.

That being said, if you just pirate some TV shows you probably don't have to care.
I dunno, I once had to help improve someone's internet security, after the financial company he worked at was chosen to need to pay a fine (the regulatory org needed a "win"). And when they refused stating they had done nothing wrong, they got dragged into all sorts of extra-judicial court like hearings in new york, without attorney present and he was questioned about things they could only know by reading his emails.

They ended up forcing the entire board of directors to abdicate, installed a new one that was willing to pay the fine, and any employees unwilling to go along or having been detected to air dissent with these proceedings in electronic communication was shitcanned.

The point is, you never know why you might become a target. If it was fully just, it wouldn't be a problem, but we both know that's not how it works.

Sorry Putin, all the censorship in the world isn't going to be enough to cover this up from us:
I was going to say this song hasn't aged but I think it might have actually gotten younger

I tried to sign up for VK and after I verified my account - I got blocked immediately. Damnit I just wanted to see all of that sexy Russian ass and troll some street-squatters. Internet Balkanization is definitely not pro-lulz.
How is VK not shutdown? A lot of stuff they post would probably get you arrested as a sex offender. Do they even have any child exploitation laws

To some degree Russia is behind the EU in this matter.

Holy shit really? I thought it was just like Russian Facebook?

Edit: Well appears like 3rd most popular social media in the world, behind FB and Twatter.. Can't be that bad can it?

I do not understand this post. VK doesn't post anything sexual at all. Some users of the platform post sexual things, but as with any large platform there are methods of reporting illegal content and removing it.

You may as well ask why doesn't Tumblr get shut down, or Discord, or Facebook or Twitter or anything else. I'm sure there are people uploading child porn to Google Drive right now - do you think Google is responsible for this?

I read somewhere, and I'm happy to be corrected, but a lot of servers that host stuff that freedom of speech loving democracies take down, end up on servers hosted in Russia or China. If that is true, Russia quarantining the entire motherland from the rest of the world might be a technical feat. It's also ironic that, if true, you have a bunch of people who are anti-freedom facilitating freedom because freedom loving govments dont want their citizens to have access to information and communication... that is ... to be free. Bizarre.

It is, sort of, just better in almost every aspect (at least it was last year, haven't logged in for a while). And if you access it from Russian IP you get access to a rather unfiltered music and videos collection uploaded by users, which is severely restricted otherwise.

About Us

The Kiwi Farms is about eccentric individuals and communities on the Internet. We call them lolcows because they can be milked for amusement or laughs. Our community is bizarrely diverse and spectators are encouraged to join the discussion.

We do not place intrusive ads, host malware, sell data, or run crypto miners with your browser. If you experience these things, you have a virus. If your malware system says otherwise, it is faulty.

How to Help

The Kiwi Farms is constantly attacked by insane people and very expensive to run. It would not be here without community support.
