So they made a new series just to make Lambdadelta into Satoko even though all evidence pointed towards Lambdadelta being Miyo. Great, fantastic.
They basically made an Umineko fanfiction. 2 seasons planned so far and a decent enough "alternate storyline" with the mobile game.

Would have at least been more interesting if they had included the outbreak arcs since they do include Hanyuu's rival in the mobile game in a similar character role to Hanyuu.

Really makes no sense for the new series to even exist since the original anime wrapped it up quite nicely.
Ciconia phase 1 deserves an anime adaptation just like higurashi and umineko had.

Try comparing this:

to this in modern day:

Even for a Higurashi watcher, this almost seems like I’m not only watching a different show, but something that doesn’t even relate to the show at large.
There was so much tension in the first clip; and it gets depressing in hindsight when you realize that this was all fuelled by Shion truly believing that the Sonozaki (well, the entirety of Hinamizawa village as a whole) was because the disappearance/death of Satoshi. I’m halfway through chapter 5 of the VN and I’m starting to really doubt Shion’s own words because of how severe her delusions are getting.

I also felt really devastated for Satoko. No matter how bratty she was in previous arcs, chapter 3 really broke my heart because of the abuse she was being put through. And now, she’s getting murdered because she’s being blamed for Satoshi’s disappearance (an event she herself had no control over). She’s also like 11, maybe 12 at the most and was being abused by Shion earlier for crying and relying on Satoshi (the only person that she, a literal child, can rely on).

But then.... Gou just dropped the ball. I’m really pissed off with how they made Satoko into an uncompromising brat, to the extent of making her completely out of character.

You know what would have been believable for Satoko?

If she was looping to try to get Satoshi back by any means necessary, because she still misses him and wants him back home to prevent Teppei from being able to harm them. Or she goes back and keeps trying to be stronger for Satoshi’s sake so he wouldn’t have succumbed to Hinimizawa syndrome...

Or maybe there’s an impending disaster that would happen at St Lucia and Satoko is trying to save Rika (whilst Rika is unaware).

Gou’s portrayal of Satoko rubs me the wrong way.

Did Ryukishi even write Gou? or was it some team of weebs who didn't at least watch the original anime? Because if they're going to pull that "alternative telling" bullshit over everything (like the mobile game that has Original characters) , than this is its own continuity/spinoff.

It certainly doesn't feel like he did.

He wrote it and acted as supervisor to Gou.

Ciconia should get an anime adaptation when it's finished so it doesn't end up like the Umineko one. Also Sotsu is confirmed to have 15 episodes with the last one ending a week before October 4th, which is a pretty important date if you've read Umineko. Ryukishi just wants to see Hinamizawa and Rokkenjima burn. It still would've been cool if Gou was just animated Console arcs without all of the redundancy and character assassination though.

Trolling the fans by ass-blasting his own continuity to smitheerns because lesbians. Classic Ryukishi.

God-fucking-damn it, it's practically one-cour. Goes to really show the first 13 episodes of Gou was a complete waste of time.

Higurashi and Umineko (Since according to gou/sotsu Higu is a part of the Umineko Continuity) have got to be one of the most confusing clusterfucks of a story I have ever attempted to actually read through.

The older stuff has some actual horror, but I don't get why it was so popular in the first place. Its pretentious as hell and likes to think It has some galaxy brain 10 billion IQ plot twists. In reality, it loves to pull the rug out from under the reader and it takes its sweet ass time just to open the main character's front door that morning.

As much as Gou/Sotsu sucks, I can appreciate Gou at least tries to make something more interesting like showing a bit more of the supernatural side of things. You thought the last volume of world building and character development actually had any significance in the plot? HAH! It actually doesn't fucking matter you stupid idiot this is a new timeline lol. You, the reader, clearly dont know the characters you've just spent the last few hours trying to sit back and enjoy the story with." Every. Fucking. Time. Its like it was written by Japanese DSP with the inconsistencies regarding its own looping/time travel.

Dont ever recall K1 losing his mind despite also looping but not realizing what it was like Satoko and this new retconned "looper madness".

One of the Best current seasonal anime that is quickly forgotten I guess? I eventually said "fuck it" and just skipped to Outbreak since its a Spinoff apparently but one of the more actually interesting arcs of the franchise where shit actually happens and does have an OVA apparently.

Some fans take issue with Outbreak, but at least with the part that was adapted into an OVA, the characters were still in character despite everything going to hell in a handbasket.

It made a lot more sense than the "hinamizawa syndrome" with a supposed bioweapon that is never actually used and now is retconned that in reality the villagers were a bunch of loopers who went batshit insane and started seeing supernatural shit and other hallucinations after so many collective loops.

I know nobody here cares since pretty much all of us think Gou was crap but a new Sotsu PV was just released.

I'll chuck my two cents in about your complaints about Higurashi. Firstly, just as a clarification, the Hinamizawa Syndrome wasn't a bioweapon, it was being researched by higher ups in the Japanese government/military to be potentially used as a bioweapon. It was, as far as we know, a genuinely naturally occurring pathogen in Hinamizawa as initially thought.

Secondly, about Higurashi's overall structure with the constant resets, that's one of the series' strengths in my own opinion. Each of the arcs about up to Meakashi-hen/Eye-Opening Chapter shows different sides of the characters as the scenarios change. Onikakushi involves Keiichi, as the new boy in the village, finding out about some buried facts about its recent past and delves in on his insecurities about his friends. Watanagashi spotlights Mion's crush on Keiichi. Tatarigoroshi involves Satoko being a traumatized child and how everyone treats her with that knowledge. It's not about traditional character development where a character changes and evolves from point A to B to C but rather taking a Matrix-style bullet-time snapshot of the cast and analyzing them from every nook and cranny possible. And all the while the VN is trying to drip feed you facts that clue you in on the overall mystery of the story as a whole. It operates on two different levels; the early arcs which can be enjoyed as stand-alone character analysis stories (providing you *get* the characters) and the overall dimension-transcending narrative which weaves everything together into a complete whole.

Lastly, Gou is garbage and shouldn't be considered when analyzing the original. I mean it was released fifteen years later, that should be long enough to draw a line between it and the original story.

I agree wholly and will shout it from the rooftops, but too many newcomers to anime think anime from before no earlier than 2008 is old, out-dated garbage, and DEEN's production quality on the first season doesn't help matters. It's a bratty way of thinking and it's real frustrating as an animation fan to see these kids dismiss entire anime if they didn't air in the last few years.

Its frustrating because the extremely vocal minority is what most companies only give a shit about these days and then act surprised when the same vocal screeching retards fuck off to go ruin something else and then join in on the hate bandwagon they created on purpose after at least attempting to destroy the source material with tranny bullshit: "yeah show X sucks now."

Is Sotsu even going to be worth watching? because it looks like they devolved Higurashi into a daytime soap opera and took out all the actual horror compared to DEEN's anime from the PVs.

Say what you will but DEEN's art style is not nearly as bad as most make it out to be and is more consistent than Gou's in portraying hinamizawa and the horror elements of higurashi without the need for explicit gore everywhere (like the unrealistic rake scene in gou).

What is up with the higurashi redditor/fandom wiki pushing this "EUA" narrative? We already know she's Featherine and was just messing with Satoko.
Check to see how many of those are younger/newer fans just coming in and haven't gone through Umineko yet.

If it turns out they're actually two completely different entities similar to how Bernkastel and Rika are, however...
