Any parent of an autistic kid will recognize this as their worst nightmare. Two Maryland teenage girls were charged this week with manipulating a teenage autistic boy to do unspeakable things. They allegedly asked him to masturbate and have sex with a family pet and then recorded it on their cellphones. They allegedly sometimes held a knife to his throat. They kicked him in the groin and pulled his hair. They got him to walk on a frozen lake knowing the ice was thin, and when he fell through a couple of times, they didn’t help him get out. His mom got home that night and asked why his clothes were wet, and he told her he’d fallen in the pond but also told her the girls didn’t force him to go in. And here’s the heartbreaker, from his mother, who was contacted by the Washington Post (the boy’s name is being withheld by the papers because he is only 16): “He doesn’t appear to be traumatized. He thinks these girls are his friends and is surprised the police are involved.”

How soon until Chris reacts? This happened in Maryland, just a few hours away, and the parallels with our hero are pretty close - the main different being that the gal-pals are the trolls. And he's younger, which helps with the sympathy

That's nothing, I know this autistic guy who was "friends" with some horrible girls in high school. They talked to him every day and sat with him at lunch but NEVER ONCE had sex with him. NOT ONCE!

The victim's reaction (or rather, complete lack thereof) isn't all that uncommon with autistic kids. If they don't mind doing something--which it appears he didn't, regardless of how fucked up it was, probably because he didn't altogether know better--and they like the abusers, they seem to have a lot of trouble understanding when people aren't actually being nice to them.

There was a pretty obviously mentally handicapped guy in my high school, I'm pretty sure he was at least nineteen or twenty and had been held back a lot, who was badly teased by lots of people but didn't mind it because he didn't understand that he was BEING teased. No idea what was wrong with him, probably some moderate autism and maybe a few other things, but he was almost completely socially oblivious and didn't understand that people only asked him to sing/dance/act out scenes from his favourite TV shows because they thought he was pathetic and wanted to laugh at him. But the guy liked singing and dancing and acting, even though he was crap at it, and he wasn't socially aware enough to understand that all the girls (it was always girls, only very occasionally would a guy get involved) were trying hard not to burst into giggle fits and the compliments were all flagrant sarcasm. I felt so badly for him. But I was scared to death of the Cheerleader Mafia who tormented him.
