I was just a kid when it happened and I remember it being a huge wake-up call, because I saw the press coverage switch from "lol look at this skank" to "oh wow she was such a wonderful humanitarian" as soon as she died. Before she died, I only knew her as some famous person who apparently fucked a lot. It taught me a lot about how the world works, I guess.

I also thought it was pretty dumb that the investigators got so hung up on some cracked lens from a Fiat that they found in the tunnel. Even as a kid I noticed small crash debris on the side of the road all the time that never got cleaned up.

From childhood to now, playing any sort of driving games with tunnels that have supports in the middle, I'll make Princess Diana jokes and ram my friends into the steel support beams. So I guess that's her lasting legacy to me.

U ok hun? People are FUMING about the broadcast of her "private" tapes but I bet they watched them anyhow. Cretins.

Anyhow. Some more caps from Facebook:

Oh come on. Her heart was on the other side of her chest when they found her, having been displaced by the impact. She could have had a team of uber experienced cardiothoracic surgeons scrubbed and ready to go within seconds of the accident and she still would have bled out.

Remember - always wear your seatbelt, and don't drink and drive.

I saw a documentary on Youtube that focused on the paparazzi having everything blamed on them and how it affected their lives. They were treated horribly. I'm surprised no one was murdered by an angry mob. The public really took to the whole "It's all the media's fault" thing.

I believe it's this one:

It's pretty interesting. The crash scene pics were being bid on like crazy. Then Diana died and no one could get away with publishing much of anything. So they became worthless. What you actually did see was nowhere near what had been shot.

I remember when it happened I was watching TV and my mom was across the street talking to a neighbor. Breaking news came on that Diana had died. And I went outside to tell everyone and they were all shocked. It was pretty much Earth shattering for many people because she was put on such a pedestal.

And immediately anyone who didn't buy the paparazzi thing pointed their fingers at the royal family. Various reasons such a Dodi being Muslim and Diana being more popular than the Queen and taking all the focus away from the rest of the Royals.

To this day you've got crazy truthers spouting that Diana was murdered. Seems really really far fetched to me. The driver was intoxicated and they were going too fast. If this was any common group of Joe Schmoes you'd write it off as a tragic but preventable accident. But no celebrity can die a natural death. It's all some stupid conspiracy. People can't possibly think that EMTs wouldn't try with all their might to save Diana. No one wanted her to die. That possibility was something they were dreading.

Had Diana been ugly as sin, nobody would care, sadly.

"The redhead" is James Hewitt, the tank commander (I mistakenly put paratrooper further up the thread; my bad). It should be noted that in the British Army tank regiments are considered highly aristocratic (Prince Harry was a tank commander in Afghanistan) because they're descended from the cavalry regiments of the Civil War and thereafter and indeed are still named the Household Cavalry and so forth, and back in the old days to be a cavalry officer or even trooper you had to supply your own horse and suchlike, while the infantry just had to supply themselves. There is a conspiracy theory that Prince Harry was actually the biological son of this James Hewitt but it's unlikely given the dates etc.

Also, the video those comments are on is highly autistic as well.

Well, the day's finally here, and everyone's being just as mawkish and autistic as expected.

Lmao this is exactly what happened when Julie Terryberry died, the thread became a troll shield mess and it was hilarious to see the hypocrisy.

I saw an "informal" Diana interview in part of a TV special on PBS the other night. It was strange, in the sense that she had obviously decided ahead of time how she wanted to be portrayed, but wasn't skilled enough to actually manipulate the interviewer fully. To paraphrase

Diana: lol I was always a rebel. I was voted friendliest girl in school, and was always so nice and warm and friendly to everybody.
Interviewer: I thought you were talking about being a rebel.
Diana: ...but it was an undercurrent that was always there.

Me: :story:
And yet the narrator still gushed about this real look at the private Diana. Non sequitur aside, her entire description of herself didn't sound like how somebody with a natural friendly disposition would describe themselves. Just odd. Now I'm also curious as to who coached her into her later persona.
