Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell announced -

Gat Out of Hell will be a standalone expansion for Saints Row IV (so it's like the Saints Row IV of Saints Row IV) releasing this January for $19.99.

What's notable here is that it isn't going to take place in a reskinned Steelport.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty pumped.

It looks pretty stupid.

I don't like how you play as Johnny Gat, nor how it again runs on SR3's engine. It just comes off as really lazy on Volition's part and they REALLY need to step up their game if they want to be able to compete in the 8th generation.

I mean with all of their games since SR3 just come off like "how about we take the last game, and remove some features everyone liked and add some features people don't really like". Then they just make excuses as to why they had to remove things.

Case in point I doubt this new area they're adding is going to be particularly large, nor do I expect the new super powers they add are going to be any interesting. The fact of the matter is, I'm tired of superpowers, I'm tired of unfunny humor, and I'm tired of storylines that are nonsensical. I want Volition to actually try and make a game that feels like the devs genuinely care. The only thing that could redeem Volition in my eyes right now is if they re-release Saints Row 1, since that's what everyone wants. But unfortunately what Volition wants and what the fanbase wants are two different things.

But yeah, otherwise I agree. Saints Row 3 and 4 were kind of fun in their own way, but I liked the series better when it was grounded in reality. And it really seemed like Saints Row 2 had better content. More in-depth character creator, re-playable missions, more interesting environments, more interesting villains and of course, Charles Shaughnessy.

Eh, I'll pass. Gat is fun but not "buy-a-game-just-for-him-fun."

I want Saint's Row 2 back. I want hidden content, like the shopping mall or the hidden island. I want an underground cavern and a university and a pirate-themed restaurant. I want to be able to put on socks and facial piercings. I want a storyline that can make me feel bad about having to mercy kill one of my gang members after he gets dragged to death behind a pickup truck and make my heart skip a beat when I bury a motherfucker alive. I want characters that aren't perfect and have some actual frailty to them. I want weapons that take some exploration and skill to find, like the chainsaw or the shock paddles. I want challenges that are actually challenging and don't feel like a chore.

And I don't want super powers. I don't want dildo bats and sodomy guns and aliens and velociraptors. I don't want any more parody.

I want a genuine game that can make me laugh, make me mad, and make me play it through all the way and have a hell of a time doing so.

Although the tiger escort mission can stay.
