In 1998, inspired by a J.M.S. penned episode of the 80s version of The Twilight Zone, Peter Weir and Andrew Niccol brought to life a world where entire human lives became a TV production. The film was called The Truman Show.
Portrayed by Jim Carrey, Truman Burbank was adopted by a corporation back when he was merely an unwanted fetus so every second of his life could be filmed and broadcasted to the masses. The lines between theatrics and reality were blurred to the points of comedy, tragedy, and existential horror. Viewers were shocked by the thrilling thought experiment.
As it turns out, the world of 1998 was totally right about this vision of the future. They were -- however -- totally wrong about The Truman Show generating from the fruits of an elaborate corporate conspiracy. As it turns out, people are very much willing to become Truman Burbank voluntarily, perform production duties, involve every human being they so much as spot with their camera, and pocket the cash for themselves.
Enter Sam and Nia. Mister and Misses Rader.
Originally rising to prominence as "the Good Looking Parents": Sam and his sexy wife Nia are a Youtube V-Loggig Mormon family of four who RELEASE VIDEOS WITH TITLES IN ALL CAPS about topics such as sneaking a pregnancy test into the toilet to surprise the Misses with the news of pregnancy, trivial medical issues they present like an HIV positive announcement, and faking their survival of Ebola. Occasionally, they even release videos which don't have titles in all caps, such as their announcement that said pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage at the 6th week.
Sam just quit his job as a nurse to v-log full time, One week later, he made a video to address "those drinking the Hater-ade". I'm sure all of this will end well.
There have been a few pieces about them written for the likes of People: but with notable exception's like Amanda Hess' Slate piece, most of them are useless fluff. For general reference, here's:
More will be added as it's discovered.
