Sam Fennah / FailSafe42 - Atheist furry who dropped out of college; sperged to Bionicle fans about God not existing #SAVEBOB

Fennah writing reminds me of David Hopkins' comic Jack, dark edgy themes for the sake of it. Only instead of Christian furry demons that love to rape we have atheist furry aliens that love to murder. I remember back in the day people tried to fix David's comic too. It didn't go well at all. It's best to make up your own stories because Fennah's stories don't even have a good foundation to work with.
Hey, at least there's some good inspiration from Sam's work:
-What NOT to do in a story and how you should avoid ending up like him.

That is what makes trying to fix them fun. They are a shit show. Ripping into them also shows just how deep the issues are, though ultimately he's made three key mistakes:
  • Universally too powerful.
  • A fixation on a society that values a very specific trait that inspires repetitive characterization.
  • Impossibly old entities.
Good story telling comes from drama. The stakes can't be high during the violence, because no one can die. If they do get killed it feels like an asspull at this point because "why didn't they come back like everyone else does?" It also kills any sense of finality to injury, since they all recover too fast. If met with a physical challenge, the same issue kicks in because "why don't they shapeshift to solve it?" not doing so makes his characters seem stupid, or makes Sam look forgetful. The fixation of their culture on strength and intellect forces everyone to act like a sociopathic blood thirsty maniac, this means there is never much question on how someone new will behave. Finally, them being all so old makes their behaviour seem to be evidence of stupidity and the inability to learn more than anything. It doesn't make them seem wise, and if a situation comes up where they might need to know something, well of course they know it. They are all 7 billion years old. They probably know and have seen everything, right? It also leaves constant questions of "what where they doing during all that time, and how have they stayed hidden since they have been on earth for so long without even the smallest bit of evidence of their existence slipping into the mainstream?"

Dear boy opened again comissions. Instead of focusing on book, animation test and trailer, no lets do even more work.

And the one down left is shit. His modeling skills on this one are shit. Not even near the quality he does for his characters, like between the ones above and the ones below are worlds....

Also GG can't you do these then now? Ah right well he would have to do them for free... Excuses, excuses, he had time for twenty comissions but not for these huh?

Tbh, this makes Fennah look like even more of a bloody dick. The fact that he's constantly pushing out more merch as opposed to actual content, also he can't stay focused on one thing at a time to save his life. He's constantly everywhere at once, it's sloppy as fuck and makes him look unorganized. You mean to tell me it's taken him over a year to do a free raffle prize for one of his fans, but all the while he's still doing those lousy overpriced commissions. He basically says "Oh yeah, been busy with other irl shit, I'll get to that eventually... just lemme finish this HUGE workload with thousands of overpriced commissions first and then I'll get to start that free raffle prize that was over a year or so ago lol thanks!" what the fuck Sam. I get that he needs money to make the book and his animations, but for fuck sake that's like all he does now is just merch merch MERCH. He's juggling too much at once, it's no wonder why the book is taking forever to get finish and that should be his main focus instead of all these lackluster "animations tests" he makes. It's because of his ego, Fennah has always been a workaholic since he started his channel and he'll even go as far as to refuse help because he just wants to do everything himself. He doesn't want helped offered to him, he wants to be the one asking others for help. Like we know he's capable of doing all of this on his own, but his refusal to take in most constructive criticism combined with his inability to accept help is honestly unhealthy as fuck. I wonder what his parents were like... he seems a little too independent.

I won't give Fennah shit for working on other things instead of his book and his web series from time to time, especially those things that actually have a monetary return within the short term. As a "creative" myself I understand having a block on one project, and going to work on another as a result. After all there are basically two forms of block. Not being able to come up with anything, to which the solution is to sit down and get working, or not being able to come up with anything satisfactory, which typically means you're either burned out and need a break, or you need inspiration, so treat this one as needed. Thing is, Fennah has so many projects going at once he's trying to hype up all at once that it is impossible for him to make any progress on them while putting out these commissions.

The thing that isn't cool is the fact he hasn't gotten to these commission raffle rewards from a year ago, as it shows a failure to keep his obligations. I know someone who did raffles to drum up commissions, and while they didn't do them all in a row, as they had ten rewards to do and needed money for bills, they happen to already do their commissions in blocks of five, and instead numbered off those who won and added them two at a time to the next five blocks. It took them two and a half months to get through them all. Maybe Fennah should try a similar method, eh?

Still, seeing this I need to wonder, how many other commissions are there sitting in flux? How many of those that were paid for are unfinished? How long does he take to deliver on his commissions? It doesn't make me want to hire him for work without a solid contract and a tight set of time restraints, that is for sure.

You do have a point, I guess I am a bit of a hypocrite for complaining about his inability to stay focused on one project at a time. I have the same issue with bouncing back and forth from one project to the next, it irritates the hell out of me personally because I get confused after awhile lol. However, I will say that Fennah is very unorganized when it comes to his commissions. He just picks whatever character he thinks looks good enough and goes from there, there's a lack of structure. I've always felt like his animations were low-key unnecessary tbh, if he just focused on writing his book and doing commissions then maybe he wouldn't be stressed and all over the place. He's an animator, an author, he does commissions, he's selling merch, and all of this because he has to pay pills and you can tell he's struggling to keep himself afloat.

The book is a new thing really, if we go back to what he was at the start, you know other than an edgy atheist, you'd know him predominately as an animator. His book is the thing causing the issues. What he really is, if we want to zoom all the way back to the start of these creative pursuits, is a horny furry trying to make a web series that hybridizes 3D animation and live action. The animation work is what made him popular to start. Yet, lately he has nothing worth showing. He's rebooting Satellite City for the umpteenth time, and yet where is a single episode of it?

The practical reality from a business standpoint is this:

The book exists to provide background lore to his web series. That is what is important. The web series that is where is brand exists. This means he needs to get back on releasing the rebooted web series, which apparently is going to be more inline with the tone and lore of the book, which, if Fennah has any brains, will be retcon city and bring everything inline so that it isn't a shit show filled with the writing mistakes of an edge lord newbie writer and put some lessons learned and critique to use, even if he never admits such. He should focus on putting out an episode of the web series over these "tests", which are only damaging to his content production, while taking on enough commissions to pay for the production of the animations and the time he needs to spend writing the book. The longer he goes without primary content, the more interest starts to fade and the less merch he can sell.

He also needs to shut the fuck up about his book and releasing so much teaser content, unless it is going to release within 2021, or no later than March 2022 due to some delays. All this constant hype machine about it is just going to cause fatigue and reveal far too much about it. It will kill interest and hype once it releases and everyone says "oh, you've already got the good parts before it was even out, no point in buying it.", further damaging his financials. The book is, ultimately, just another piece of merch and he needs to treat it as such. The hype machine needs to be on the web series, at the end of each episode slap in a 20 second card of "Pick up the The August Few, the first book to a prequel novel series to Satellite City! Coming soon!" Fennah doesn't have any fucking clue what he is doing from a business standpoint with this book and it shows.

Order of priority that Fennah needs to follow if he's not a total retard:
  1. Commissions, these make the money.
  2. Web series, this is the heart of his brand, and he needs to remember that. This, by its very existence, builds hype for and sells everything else.
  3. New merch, this makes him more money letting him eventually demote the priority of commissions.
  4. His book, this is a long way out despite his constant hype, and it ultimate is just an extension and a lore overhaul for the more important web series. It will produce funds, however, and will potentially further drop the priority of his commissions.
  5. His other animations, these don't build up hype, don't sell merch, don't bring in ad revenue, and don't help sell his eventual book. They do nothing but feed his ego. Ego feeding being their only purpose makes these a low priority. Making money and getting views from his web series would be just as much, if not more, of an ego feeder.
This isn't all as much work as it looks for the record. Writing is something you can do when you have inspiration, and can be done while commissions and videos render, during which time he can't really do either. The commissions and web series compete for time more than anything else, as they both eat CPU cycles and the commissions take however much time is needed to model and pose a character, while his web series takes the same amount of time, plus the time to record lines, lip sync, record the live action content, fiddle with the audio from voice actors, and edit the video together and render it. This is why, BTW, his other animations are so damaging to his production. These require nearly as much work as the web series per minute of content and don't do as good of a job at selling his merch and book. Still, commissions only need to be done so as to pile up funds enough to spend a few weeks/months doing uninterrupted work on his own projects.

Merch can be produced from concept art and silly side doodles, it doesn't really take too much dedicated time to do, it isn't like he's actually manufacturing it all himself. Even if he's selling it from his own home, he likely only has enough sales that he only needs to bother shipping out once a week and can just declare a "Merch Monday" and make some tweets to build merch hype about how much he's shipping out that week if he has a high sales week.

Now as a Kiwi, our priorities for Fennah are different, we'd want his priority to be something like so as it would produce the most milk for us:
  1. His other animations, as these show his awful work and are fun to rip into.
  2. Tweeting, because him making an ass of himself is a constant stream of milk.
  3. Web series, since this gives us bad acting, bad animation, and his awful writing all in one place.
  4. Commissions, since this is a nice fast way to mock his lack of quality while on the toilet.
  5. His book, which will be a virtual gold mine of edge, cringe, and bad writing.
  6. New merch, some of his merch gets pretty bad, but it isn't really a source of milk for us.

Now that I think about it... has Fennah even started the production of his web series First Night? He hasn't done any updates about it in awhile, of course he's planning to put more effort into First Night than he did Satellite City and so it might take longer to get made. But yeah, there hasn't been any updates on First Night and it's disappointing because AGAIN he's so busy juggling everything else that he keeps getting sidetracked. The only thing we've seen regarding First Night is the new voice actors, other than that he's only been working on his book and doing the occasional animation test. We don't even have an idea of what the hell the plot is gonna be for First Night, we're still waiting to get updates.

Well, Satellite City won't return as it is no canon anymore at all and was just a way to figure out his way to go and to practice.
He goes now for the Spin Off "First Night", which he should start working on after releasing all five-six books, so the whole "August Few" Series, and not even before releasing the book he says "ah let's do even more crap so I won't have time for anything, let's start a spin-off before even the first book is published!"
So the only only canon thing are his books. Nothing else (as he stated himself).

I meant the same as you when I said Focus on book and animation test, and now in case on comissions as he needs money (so he has three different things to work on to not get burnt out by either: Writing, Animating and Modelling).
But no. He needs loads of crap.
Everything he does right now at the time:
  • Writing the Book
  • Doing Locket's Animation Test
  • First Night, which, if you breakdown is additional:
  • Scripting First Night
  • Working with the Voices of the Characters to record the lines
  • Filming First Night
  • Editing the Voice-Audio
  • Animating First Night
  • Adding Sound Effects
  • Doing Final Animation and etc. Checkproof for First Night
  • Final Compositing (editing the whole thing, adding effects, lightning...) and rendering
  • Comissions
  • Animated Teaser Trailer for the book
  • Animatic of Celia completed
Yes well if my list for the day looked like that I'd lie down on the floor and scream.

Not to mention that he insist on doing all of this shit by himself... I just... WTF? Is he mental??? Why not get a crew to help you do all this shit instead of overworking yourself? Oh right... cause then he'd have to pay people to help him... so basically he was screwed from the start tbh. He doesn't have enough money to pay for a crew to help him, and so he's stuck doing everything by himself and if you throw in the fact that he sucks at accepting criticism/taking orders then it just makes the whole situation even worse. It's like he's backed himself into a corner, maybe if he went to college and actually learned some shit about how animation works then maybe just MAYBE he would have a better grasp on wtf he's doing. It's nearly impossible to make a web series without the help of someone else, no doubt he'll mostly just beg his family to help him cause I guess he doesn't have to pay them. Fennah took "do it yourself" WAAAY out of proportion, and now he's paying for it lmao.

Yes well if my list for the day looked like that I'd lie down on the floor and scream.
Oh right, I forgot he's been wanting to totally purge his canon in the process of all this, which means basically he's saying "Fuck my entire brand, the entire reason I have these fans, and everything else. Lets burn it all for a book series that is likely a minimum of ten years from finished and by the time it is done no one will give a fuck about me anymore because they were all here was for my animated web series, and since I didn't do that they all moved on."

His fixation on these books will ultimately prove to have fucked him. Regardless of what he says, he's a fucking retard for going all in on the books. I understand the desire to give yourself some fucking structure to your world, to write a grand story, but he needs to consider what his real brand is, and to actually produce a product to pivot to before he attempts to pivot.

Satellite City was apparently never canon, as stated before it was merely just for practice to start brainstorming ideas for his book. However, Satellite City was originally what got him his big fanbase in the first place and now he's moved on to other things. I feel like the Satellite City series actually had a lot of interesting story ideas (even if they were portrayed poorly or sometimes just forgotten altogether) that could have worked, but now all of those interesting ideas have been trashed for other "better" ideas. I liked that Shuck/Dalton was a Shuck and Fleischer was a Dragon before the purge to make his own original ideas with the whole "Kivs" thing. I hated that Hyzen was the punching bag of the group and was hoping she would get a chance to stand up to Lucy in Satellite City, she was also the only hybrid character which was also never explained and now it's no longer canon. I thought it was interesting how Winifred and Fleischer kinda got along at one point in the older videos, Fleischer is seen being friendly with Winifred on multiple occasions... that was until Winifred was turned into an edge lord like everyone else and started using Fleischer as a punching bag even though he was simply just trying to be nice. Lucy was... an awful character back then and Locket was even worse. So yeah, in my opinion he had some decent ideas before he scrapped it all to make the reboot with First Night. I find it funny how he got on Disney's ass for being a shitty company that makes reboots and then he turns around and reboots his own stuff.

I doubt the "it was never canon" line of bullshit. It's an obvious way to lend greater credence to this new reboot. It's also worth noting he's wiped the slate before and declared things "not canon, and never were but this here is the new canon" before during reboots, this isn't the first time after all.

It's an obvious and common impulse. As you do something you naturally improve to some degree, even if many would argue you still suck, due to experience. Your standards might increase with your abilities. This makes you want to bring the old up to the new standard by replacing it and redoing it, declaring the new the "true" version. This isn't a bad thing. The issue is when you make a habit of it. Watch. The book series won't ever finish, but he will release more than 5-6 books. He'll just reboot it eight billion times.

Fennah needs to just accept he needs to find a way to do a new Satellite City canon, do his spin off, and do his book as one continuity no more reboots. The videos are why people care about him. No one gives a fuck about his book compared to his video work. It also doesn't matter what the fuck he calls his shit, he can call it "Fennah's Magical World of Furry Alien Murder Fuckery" and reeeee all he wants, all people will think of his stuff as is Satellite City. That's all The August Few will ever be. The Satellite City book. First Night will always be the the Satellite City spin off.

That's his curse until he throws out everything about these characters and the kivs entirely. He's damned by his own success. He needs to embrace it already. It isn't like he can't make it all fit together if he has anything that resembles talent or passion. Let's actually look at the timeline that gives him to work with.

At the start he has the events leading to the fall of the Kiv civilization, and at the end he has the Kiv conquest of Earth after modifying the world to be conducive to supporting Kiv society. He has literally 7 billion years of wiggle room. He can play around in any period of human history if he wants. He could tell the story of his OCs manipulating the Roman Empire. He could say that the obsession with genetic purity in Sparta was because of the beliefs of some Kiv who taught them about genetics, and Sparta embraced those ideals and started throwing ugly babies from cliffs, and the Kiv thought it was funny and encouraged it. Or perhaps it was an experiment to improve humanities genetic quality, you know show off how smart they are.

Show us how Lucy was involved with Jack the Ripper. Show how Fontaine built Vegas, show us the Kitsune being crucified, show us all these events. And do so in the format that made you famous.

The thing I look most forward about the book is Winifred and Fleischers relationship, how he was first her slave for her humilation kinks and then they somehow grew closer together. And if Sam dares to throw this away, well thank you, you just threw one of the most interesting plots I heard in a long time in the trash to focus on bland Lucy who has barely a personality anyway.
Hyzenthlay being Hybrid was also interesting, well no canon anymore, and will propably be the most flat character.

This is how I have the stuff for now sorted in my head and fantasy, and that's why I'm so hyped and keen to praise right now the book: (some things might be that I imagined them up, so they not necessarely have to be heard anywhere but are my impression from the series etc.)
  • Dalton will end up with Celia to rebell the government and Locket
  • Lucy is like any Kiv, but ends up falling in love with Celia and joins the rebellion group because of it
  • As told above, Winifred and Fleischer become slowly a thing and Winifred will get character development and some good traits/ Fleischer makes her change a little
  • Hyzenthlay (?)
  • Ludwig will be kind of the strategist and leader of the rebellion group
  • Celia might get killed by Winifred, although her dead is not canon anymore (and it was never told who killed her, but as Lucy hates Winifred so much maybe she did it). After that Lucy changes and will for any price kill Winifred and Locket
  • Shale an Dorothy are total loyal to Locket as in Satellite City
  • Hayden betrays the rebellion group in the end maybe, like he betrayed them in Satellite City. In the end he was just a spy in the group.
  • Yeshua (?) part of rebellion group but is known he dislikes Ludwig
  • The two bushy girls are rebellion too and have some impact through their sex job I guess
  • Quinn will be also part of group, messenger as in Satellite City but a very minor character
  • Felicity (?) maybe she ends up with Methusa who we've seen in the animatic, and I kind of have the feeling Methusa will die, idk gives me such vibes
  • Luna (?) also part of group
  • Sombra (?) holds onto Locket's law but is not loyal to her but the government, wants to be Grand Voice himself
  • In the end Locket's law gets defeated by the rebellion group along with Winifred. Winifred gets held as captive and maybe deprived of colour (is not canon anymore but maybe something of that sort will happen, that she will get every punishment of the kiv's punishments for everyone's revenge as she is known to be the most cruel next to Locket). They have not yet approached Locket, one might say the very heart of the city.
  • Final fight against Locket (probably Lucy vs Locket?) And if not dead certainly with uttermost convincement it will be Celia who fight and kills her.
  • Happy end, someone less cruel becomes grand voice, law gets changed
I'm so looking forward on how it all gets shattered. This here is now most simple tier in my mind, and if he doesn't do better than that then farewell with your great writing. He writes great and imaginative, but great writing is useless if the story is shit.

WHAT?!? WHAT THE FUCK-
No but in all seriousness though my brain hurts, it's like the more we discuss his flaws the more problems we introduce. Eventually we just end up right back where we started, the only thing to do is wait until the book releases and we'll just have to see what happens. I'm sure a lot of his fans want to read his book, which holy hell that's a lot of pages to sit through... fucking 700 PAGES of edgy nonsense goddamn. We just gotta wait, only time will tell.

I'm a fast reader and I love to read books. If the book is like the animatic teasers, this will be a four to five day read for me. If it is not, it will be a four to five day read for me because of how hilarious bad it'll be. Either this book will be a wonderful drama or a trash comedy - either good, or so bad it's good.

If I'm remembering correctly, the book's story is mostly gonna be centered around how these characters handle politics in their world. Why politics? He could have went anywhere else with the story and he choose politics. Something something their society only cares about the best of the best and anyone who is weak gets the short end of the stick. So basically the story that Fennah is going for is questioning the laws of a broken backwards society, which would be interesting if all the characters weren't written as super strong and smart and perfect beings. In the reboot, Hyzen plays a big part in the story because I guess she's one of the few Kivs who aren't that strong and Fennah said that she has weak lungs which... ok sure why not lol. I hate how he literally develops none of his characters outside of Lucy, I know very little about any of the other characters and so it's hard for me to care about them at all.

I'm going to assume he plans to expand on the "be smart" side of the politics. I have low hopes for him.

I've done plenty of political intrigue when writing about characters who are extremely powerful before, it creates an interesting dynamic when everyone is so powerful that it forces a stalemate that only political and legal maneuvering can off balance it. Fennah, however isn't likely to pull it off. You can tell he has no passion for political intrigue, so he won't know enough about how to make it interesting to write it.

Political writing is like jenga. It's about carefully building an unstable tower of plots and schemes and forcing the other guy to make it collapse on them. This means he needs to set up the hierarchies of politics, clearly and unambiguously set up the laws that are important to the scheming while doing so in an engaging well, make sure you can see what moves everyone is making while hiding just enough to keep up suspense and avoid ass pulls, set up political loyalties, set up political disloyalties, set up rivalries, set up schemers who seem to be on side A but are really on side B, set up rogue parties, set up the various factions, set up the twists without them being boring or ass pulls, set up the rivalries, set up friendships that cross between faction lines, and everything else while executing it all in an engaging way to tell a story.

You can normally avoid these issues by... Having less characters. Fennah has too many and now needs to juggle them.
