Sam Seder is a liberal taking head who's also the voice for Hugo in Bob's Burgers. In 2009, he made a Roman Polanski joke that wen't largely unnoticed:

“Don’t care re Polanski, but I hope if my daughter is ever raped it is by an older truly talented man w/ a great sense of mise en scene,”

That is until Alt-right cow Mike Cernovich started a campaign to get Seder off the air.

The racist madman did it.

In a year that has already seen it come under fire for passing on Ronan Farrow’s domino-tumbling expose of Harvey Weinstein, as well as for letting Matt Lauer run rampant across decades of pay raises, NBC is at last taking a principled stand against media figures who propagate sexual assault—and naturally, completely bungling that as well. As The Wrap reports, MSNBC has just cut ties with contributor Sam Seder over a tweet he wrote in 2009, a joke that sarcastically mocked Hollywood’s continued defense of director Roman Polanski on artistic grounds. “Don’t care re Polanski, but I hope if my daughter is ever raped it is by an older truly talented man w/a great sense of mise en scene,” that tweet read, a response written to the petition urging Polanski’s release from a brief arrest in Switzerland, largely because he is “one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers.” Because of this eight-year-old dig at the film industry’s morals—and the fact that “internally there was disgust over the tweet,” as a source tells The Wrap—Seder’s contract with the network will not be renewed.

This joke was resurfaced to public attention last month by Mike Cernovich, the human “TRIGGERED?” meme who remains at the forefront of today’s white-dudes-ranting-into-webcams media, largely thanks to his successful propagating of conspiracy theories like “Pizzagate” and incitement of harassment campaigns against the journalists he and his army of angry internet boys don’t like. Cernovich, by the way, rose to his Reddit prominence largely on the back of statements like “Date rape does not exist”—an actual, non-sarcastic idea about rape that paralleled Cernovich’s own, actual rape and battery arrests, and have regularly featured into his fucked-up musings about how he loves to “choke a bitch” and “blow the bitch out.” Ironically, when confronted with them, Cernovich has defended his statements—along with those propagating white nationalism—by saying they were “obvious satire that had been misinterpreted in bad faith.”

In a recent edition of Seder’s podcast, The Majority Report With Sam Seder, he described how Cernovich and slightly higher-placed trolls such as Sebastian Gorka were using the unearthed tweet—which Seder had deleted after they began retweeting it—to concoct a smear campaign against him based on “willful misinterpretation,” hoping to silence his criticisms of Roy Moore—one of the only actual pedophiles Cernovich has ever come into contact with, when he offered him his endorsement.

MSNBC has now fully bought into that smear campaign, siding with Cernovich, Gorka, and the rest of the “alt-right” whose openly stated goal is the destruction of news outlets just like it through the use of blatantly manipulative trolling techniques that use their own propensity for faux outrage against them—exactly like what happened here. Great work, everyone.

By no means do I like Sam Seder, but if absolutely have to get him fired for something then don't let it be for a tweet made 8 years ago. And while I'll take a moment to enjoy the schadenfraude, don't encourage this behaviour since it'll inevitably backfire just like it did on poor old Sam here.

The irony that goes unnoticed is, that by crediting every move against them to the imaginary "alt right", the progressives are CREATING such a movement because it seems to be winning... so people will start doing things in it's own name either to piss them off or because it seems to honestly work. By turning everything into a feeling/meme war instead of an honest political debate, the SJW/Prog movement is CAUSING their own imaginary boogeymen to become REAL threats.

This is amazing, it's as if the petulant whining of the religious right in the 90's actually CAUSED real satanist cults to spring up from their panic that all that was immoral in the country was the fault of them, I've never seen anything quite like it.

And the more this happens, on both sides, the more likely it is we'll reach a point where everyone gets tired of twelve year old tweets getting people in the present fired and will start to ignore them, which is what SHOULD have been done from the start, had the SJWs not tried to weaponize every form of media out there against wrongthink.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the modern media is such a shitheap because people in it that should adhere to journalistic standards and ambitions (integrity in informing the public) instead are playing it by social media rules (clicks and likes mean I'm someone) and still expect media-like credibility for their effort.

They act like Carrot Top, but expect to be hailed as Cronkite.

They're treating it like a hobby, not a profession. If it's ever going to recover it's former glory and be trustable and fair again, there needs to be a firm line drawn. EVeryone who wants to be on the wacky jokey side? The right-side-of-history memey side? The progressive at a coffee table clutching their pearls side? I mention this because a few months ago they lost their shit over a game dev defending GG in a tweet over a year ago. Shit lead to a ton of harassment.
