Sara Michelle Murawski is a 28 year old former professional ballet dancer turned influencer who, along with her unhinged codependent mother, went full bovine when Sara was fired from Pennsylvania Ballet in 2017 by an evil male, the villain of this story. In the years since, Sara has turned to social media to complain about sexism and discrimination in the ballet world, getting blacklisted by her former boss, and being unable to find a new job, but doesn’t do much to find one despite being a talented and competent dancer. The mom, Michelene, who follows Sara around the world and has a background in teaching, quickly becomes irate and often types multiple nonsensical walls of text in response to short comments related to the Firing and just about anything else. They perceive themselves as the kindest, most gentle of souls, but seethe when others get attention for going public with MeToo-related stories because the injustice of Sara’s firing didn’t get them enough lasting attention. Sara now spends her days making content with mom and strives to become a voice for the oppressed in the ballet world.
This pair is fun to watch because they are codependent, man-hating, hypocritical clout-chasers who can’t obfuscate their neuroses in public, and they continue to diminish any chance of reviving Sara's potentially successful career by being total twats on social media. They also show what can happen when an overly attached dance mom and her daughter find that the future's not so bright as it seemed. I would feel sorry for Sara, and I'd like her to escape her mom's grasp, but at this point Sara is Obama and her mom is the angry Obama translator, as you will see below, and it's hilarious.
Following a bit of background on the Firing and the creepy mom-daughter relationship, we'll turn to recent social media blunders and their future plans.
The Backdrop
Sara went to ballet school in Pennsylvania and DC, got her first ballet job in Dresden, Germany in 2009, and left to become a soloist in Slovakia in 2014. She was invited by the the director of Pennsylvania Ballet to become a principal dancer (the highest rank) in 2015, which she gladly accepted, but was fired just over a year later for being too tall at 5'11. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, PA Ballet said the following about the Firing:
Another article in the Inquirer entitled 'Sugar Plum Fairy too tall? I take that personally', represents much of what was to come: it likens Sara's struggle with heightism to racism before devolving into whataboutism and ebegging by proxy:
The gfm raised $435 and the proceeds were directed to someone else.
To their credit, ebegging is not something they typically engage in. The article also includes some of Sara's comments, and they even contacted Michelene for this story:
Sara and Michelene's comments about the Firing are endless and you will see many below. I haven't gone all the way back to find Sara's original comment because fb is having trouble letting me scroll back that far, but the gist is clear from quotes from the articles.
Despite support from the Inquirer, one article that makes a critical comment (Archive):
The comments in this article are amazing. Michelene and possibly Sara appear to be commenting as multiple people:
Just to illustrate how far the insanity goes: a few days ago, almost 4.5 years after the Firing, Michelene posted the following, which is a typical representation of their thoughts on the matter and the manner in which Michelene overshares. Notice that she tags Pennsylvania Ballet. AD= Artistic Director.
Instead of finding a new job, Sara wallowed in pity for a while before joining a new ballet 'startup' called American National Ballet (ANB), which died before launch. Since then, Sara has focused on her social media presence (more on that later), though she got to the first round on tv for the World of Dance competition show (proof) and occasionally dabbles in other projects. She teaches ballet classes sometimes, but seems to sustain herself by social media sponsorships.
Cast and crew
Since Sara was young, the pair has spent an inordinate amount of time taking pictures of her in ballet poses. She has a rather famous ‘arabesque’ pose; a result of scoliosis allowing her to lift her leg really high to the back on one side, which they have spent more than a decade getting thousands of different pictures of. It’s obvious that a good chunk of Sara’s self worth lies in her arabesque. Behold:
The mom moved with Sara to Europe and back, and it doesn't seem like they've lived apart for any length of time. Both are scared of flying (though I think the mom spread it to Sara), so they traveled between continents by boat. More arabesque:
Both have said before that Sara has never been in a relationship. Neither seem to have real friends; most contact on sm is with fans, photographers, or other orbiters. Here's some cringe from tiktok to explain:
Michelene occasionally posts unhinged rants that are really hurtful or violate Sara’s privacy. There was a great one when the pair broke up briefly after the Firing, but alas I did not save it properly. Michelene has also vagueposted about a breakdown Sara had in Dresden and whether or not Sara has been graced by the tism or another unspecified disorder. I did save this now-deleted logorrea from 2 years ago wherein she repeatedly says she wished Sara was never born. They pretend to be bffs, but you know shit's weird at home when the mom makes public posts like this:
Psycho Michelene saying Sara is 'doomed' without her:
An interesting comment by Michlene in the last sentence that may shed light on their relationship dynamics:
How Sara posts about her mom, who loves being mistaken as Sara's sister:
Comedy of errors on social media
Aside from not being able to hide their creepiness, they can be hilariously tone deaf on social issues. This is because they are true sjws in the sense that they seek clout more than justice of any form unless it concerns themselves. Here's Sara (and her mom behind the camera) taking advantage of George Floyd protests. Michelene sometimes posts as if she wasn't directly involved in the production of Sara's content; don't buy it.
Sara shut down her ig for a while after backlash from posting a quote by terf witch JK Rowling. I was surprised at the time that she locked up her account for so long (maybe 6 weeks?) given her sponsorships. Sara handled it relatively well in the comments, Michelene went nuts:
As you can see, the Murawski's have co-opted sjw causes and discourse for their own purposes. They do not actually believe in growing a more inclusive dance community, only gaining clout or perhaps, a job. Their reaction to the Kathryn Morgan story is a perfect example. Kathryn was a very talented dancer in New York City Ballet who began to suffer from a health condition that made it hard to stay skinny enough for ballet. After struggling for a few years to take care of her health and get back in shape, she was offered a spot at Miami City Ballet, but ultimately left once they stopped casting her in performances because she was too fat. She went public with her story of struggle late last year and got lots of attention. She now has 247K yt subscribers (to Sara's 800), a wikipedia page, a ton of media attention, the works. She seems genuine and nice. Michelene had this to say:
Michelene also made similarly nasty comments about the Alexandra Waterbury scandal, but I haven't found them again yet.
Luckily for farmers, there is no scandal in the ballet world that this pair doesn't comment on or insert themselves into. To give yet another example: an up and coming choreographer recently killed himself after sexual harassment allegations, and I just knew I could find them commenting somewhere. The following posts respond to a comment made by Alexei Ratmansky, one of the world's most prominent living choreographers.
Shirley asked if people deserve second chances:
This is under Ratmansky's post on fb that has over 500 comments. I would ask why Michelene doesn't send Sara a text or like, shout over to the next room in their apartment, but we all know why.
Given Michelene's strong positions on ballet-related topics, her continued over-involvement in Sara's personal and professional life, and the damage she may cause if a potential employer peruses Sara's social media, it's more than fair to say she qualifies as a 'dance mom', a particular breed of parent that both smothers their child and neglects aspects of their child's well-being in pursuit of success in the dance world. This type comes in different iterations (munchie, transer, stage mom etc.) and should be familiar to patrons of the Beauty Parlor. What's remarkable here is we can witness what this looks like when the kid is almost 30, With all you now know about this pair, revel in the audacity of this tiktok. Michelene is so fucking creepy:
And one more tiktok about dance moms because i hate myself.
The associated comment from Sara:
Closing act: Social media takes center stage
Dancers who get fired normally find a new job, go back to school, or marry their boyfriends and have kids. Sara did none of these things partly because Michelene, being a single mom with no other kids, is especially desperate to keep Sara close. There was the aborted attempt to start American National Ballet, which is a tale I can tell if you want, but her more recent online activities are more fun. To supplement the anti-Corella/PA Ballet and arabesque content on fb, Sara branched out to TikTok, where she now has 49K followers, instagram (26.2K followers), and now she's uploading more frequently to yt and has a secret fb group.
I believe this pair has potential, and it would be great to have your help with documenting and appreciating these specimens. There are still plenty of gems on ig, tiktok, and fb to explore, with more to come. I think Michelene will DFE if she finds this post, but Sara needs social media so she probably won't disappear for long.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, PA Ballet said the following about the Firing:
Corella [the director] was out of the country and could not be reached, but executive director David Gray released a statement, saying: "Building a world-class ballet company is similar to building a world-class sports team. Just as there are excellent athletes whose careers are better fulfilled at one team than another, there are excellent dancers who will better fulfill their potential at different companies.
"The sooner it becomes clear to the artistic director that a change will be coming at the end of the season, the sooner the impacted dancer can begin the audition process to find the place where they can thrive."
Another article in the Inquirer entitled 'Sugar Plum Fairy too tall? I take that personally', represents much of what was to come: it likens Sara's struggle with heightism to racism before devolving into whataboutism and ebegging by proxy:
The way Murawski is being treated reminds me of African American ballerinas historically denied opportunities because of their skin color or the size of their posteriors.
"Dancers of color have gone through that and are still going through that every single day," said Kim Bears-Bailey, assistant artistic director of Philadanco, founded in 1970 to create opportunities for black dancers. "Sara will get another job. ... But what about the women of color who don't even get in the room?"
A friend of Murawski's put together a GoFundMe account [https://www.gofundme.com/season-pay-for-philly-ballet-couple] to raise $100,000 to keep her in Philadelphia and to help the company hire a tall male dancer to partner with her.
Please be generous. Talent knows no shape, size, or hue.
The gfm raised $435 and the proceeds were directed to someone else.
To their credit, ebegging is not something they typically engage in. The article also includes some of Sara's comments, and they even contacted Michelene for this story:
"It should be about the dance. That's what I was always told," Murawski said sadly Wednesday evening when I reached her by telephone. "Just to be told that it's your height, that's disheartening."
"They said it's a budget problem and they can't get a tall male," as her dance partner, she added.
She'd just performed the starring role in The Nutcracker the previous night, when she was called aside and told the devastating news — less than an hour before she was scheduled to perform again. She broke down in tears, but had to pull herself together.
"It came absolutely out of nowhere," said Michelene Murawski of Philadelphia, Sara's mother, so stressed by the firing that she's become ill.
Her daughter's biological father is 6-feet-4-inches tall, and Michelene knew early on that Sara would be tall. She tried getting her daughter into basketball, but Sara fell madly in love with dance. She was doing ballet in her sleep.
If I were the ballerina, I would not want to place my firing in the spotlight. Other companies might have seen this as the normal process of a company’s changing direction. Now, in addition to the usual considerations, companies will have to wonder if hiring a dancer best known for being fired would be good or bad for them, and they have to wonder if she will make public her grievances with them.

Which one do you think is my story!? Which is yours!?!, if you wish to say... it can be ballet or you can relate it to whatever you do.
.
This is a comic skit just for fun. But with it, a few topics deserve attention with regard to ballet industry mentality. These are stereotypes and while that makes for good comedy sometimes, the issue within the industry is that it doesn’t view this as lighthearted comic matter, but instead in many aspects, it uses these stereotypes to fuel the bigotry and elitism that is ballet-USA, unfortunately. It’s unhealthy because actually parents are its backbone. Mothers in a very special way, in that they literally provide the flesh and body of the industry’s most essential resource. So, while we can laugh at ourselves and ponder which one we are or our Moms/Mums are, or which mother (or father or parent) we would or will be, I think it’s always important to remember to respect all of them. The industry would not exist without them. The female parent in ballet faces with courage a lot of bigotry, since there is sexism and parent phobia doubled-over against them. I’m pretty sure if mine had a memo ahead of time, she wouldn’t have had the courage to invest in it. It was a good fortune for me that she had zero exposure to the ballet-world. But more important is that we eradicate the stereotypes as a negative sort of thing. Every parent loves to see their child succeed and have a happy life doing what they love. We can learn to laugh at ourselves, each other, etc., while still having fun and having respect for each other. Moms/Mums especially!! Happy Mom’s day on both sides of the water and all over the world! And a special tip of my tiara and tutu to all beautiful moms & parents of all beautiful ballerinas, ballerinos, ballerins, etc.!!!
