I can't stop laughing about how Satanists seriously got mad over the new hyper-edgy Sabrina the Teenage Witch show

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina debuted on Netflix just in time to spook fans before Halloween, but the co-founder of The Satanic Temple isn't happy with one of the series' treats.

In the streaming series, Sabrina Spellman attends The Academy of Unseen Arts. At the school, and shown several times throughout the series, is a statue of goat deity Baphomet.

"Yes, we are taking legal action regarding #TheChillingAdventuresofSabrina appropriating our copyrighted monument design to promote their asinine Satanic Panic fiction," he said.

I might not be a copyright law expert but I do not believe this lawsuit is going to fly.

"Please do not mock our demon god that we say we don't even believe exists."

My guess is that they're doing it for the attention. They wanna bring attention to the church to try and boost enrollment. Satanism has been in a steady decline for a long time and it's always been a very small fringe of people.

It's kind of a public domain design, being it's borrowed from Eliphas Levi's drawing made in the 1800s. Satanists getting butthurt is a hilarious reversal of them being edgelords that existed to push the religious right's buttons.

Although I'm inferring the Satanic Temple is legally and philosophically distinct from the Laveyan Satanists? I guess they're both tied together by being attention whores.

While the Baphomet is obviously public domain, apparently the Satanic Temple does have a copyright on their specific statue design. The one in the show clearly has many subtle differences to the Satanic Temple's version (different horns, eyes, wings, etc.), but the inclusion of the children seems to be the defining factor, as that is the one aspect that is unique to the Satanic Temple's design. Still likely to end up being and lolsuit that get's thrown out before it even makes it to court, but it would seem that it's at least possible that they might have a case.

Anyone have opinions on the actual show? I thought it was okay over all. I remember watching a dozen or so episodes of the 90s sitcom and enjoyed them, so I kind of liked the novelty of doing a similar show but re-imagined as a dark tale about actual witchcraft. I laughed at the more ridiculous SJW stuff, which luckily was mainly contained within the first few episodes. It definitely could have benefited from taking itself less seriously though, and there seemed to be a lot of filler to drag the season out for the 10 episode standard. The pacing change is pretty noticeable after episode 3, so I really think that they should have considered a shorter season.
