Sciatica - Get off my nerves you bully

So I've had Sciatica in the past, twice before this current time, that has lasted about 1 week each time (In a three year period).

I'm a relatively healthy adult something in my early somethings. I work in a job which includes being on my feet half the day to being in a computer chair the other half.

This 3rd latest bout of Sciatica has put me on my ass for about a month now.

I've googled my diagnoses as having a herniated disc... again... (Thanks yard work and no thanks my doctor).

The only thing that helps is ignoring my job, house work and my family. Lying down in bed allday and taking Ibuprofen 800 seems to be the only cure.

What are everyone elses thoughts/cures/recommendations for dealing with the 3rd worst pain in the world? (1st Tooth-ache, 2nd Ear-ache)

I'm sure other Kiwis have had this problem as well, and would like to start a discussion.

I have personally been trying to keep on my feet everyday by doing things I shouldn't be doing (Mowing the lawn, taking out the garbage, doing dishes, stretching, Xbox yoga). It helps in the short term, but kicks me in the ass by the end of the day.

Is there an end to this pain? Or should I just An Hero?

Weed. No seriously. It does help some people with chronic pain(hehe chronic)
Your telling this to a person who thought they were a reincarnation of Bob Marley, lol. I agree with your statement, but I cant smoke anymore due to drug tests (but its getting closer to being legal here :tomgirl:)

Have you tried physical therapy?

Not professionally , but I have watched every video on Sciatica exercises. Which hurt like shit.

BUT, they do work in the short term:

Have you tried swimming? My grandmother has had it pretty bad for several years now, but between wearing a back brace and swimming every day, she is able to keep it away enough to remain active and also sit comfortably for long periods. She gets the impression that swimming (sometimes even just floating or wading) in the water for an hour or two a day substantially reduces the stress on the discs because of the buoyant force in water counteracting the gravitational force of the body's normal weight.

The pain was so bad, that screaming at the world was the only thing I could do.

but what if he has no mouth?

I actually have a 20ft above ground pool in our backyard, that works miracles on my leg pain. The problem is getting in/out of the pool over the ladder that causes some of the most pain. If I can get in, I might not get out, lol. But the cold water does indeed help my muscles. Its just the in and out that hurts.

If i had a sunken pool, I'd Boogie2988 my ass into that thing daily.

Sneezing is like being run over by a train, I'd rather die. Every neck muscle is apparently connected to your legs.

I can see that ladder being a difficult problem. You are unable to drive to a recreation center with indoor pool or a municipal outdoor pool? Where I am, if you get there early enough, it's pretty much all senior citizens trying to ease their bodily aches and pains.

:powerlevel:. My significant other threatened to put me in a home. (A joke.......... I hope)

Driving my truck is probably the main cause of my situation. I have to drive everyday, and just the pressure of using my dominate leg to drive hurts like shit. Back and forth to work and I :powerlevel: have to drop off/pick up my kids from school everyday.

The nerve is slightly getting better, but now its my leg muscles that are raw as shit.

I just wanted to open this thread up for people with the same problems I've been having and maybe we can get together for a common consensus for helping each other out with the pain and hopeful comfort of a terrible nerve problem under the (lol) Hulkamania "health" forum.

Power levels are welcome here, if it helps a fellow Kiwi.

I find that an electric heating pad on your thigh, WITH a frozen cold pack on your ankle, helps tremendously.

I 100% agree; swimming is amazing therapy and it helped me recover from shattering my right ankle to high hell.

Having a mate to just give you the push to go out goes a long way. There's groups you can check out, especially in summer

Massage, dude. I'm an LMT myself and I get plenty of sciatica patients. It can hurt a little bit, but over time it helps the hip rotators relax and takes pressure off the sciatic nerve.

There's no cure. I've been living with mine for about 3 years now and after having a ton of MRIs and test, there's nothing to be done. Your spine is fucked.

But, there are ways to mitigate the pain, though. Exercise is the biggest. I took a long time off from it to heal but it actually got worse and exercise and stretching every day seems like the only way to keep my lower lumbar from being too stiff.

Thats the oddest looking contraption ive ever seen. I didnt think to use an exercise ball. Maybe ill try that.

Yeah, it looks gay and hippie as shit, but I have to admit switching my work chair about 9 months ago has helped a great deal with lower back pain in general. Also gets your core a lil swoler in the process while getting your posture better
