Tony Cervone, the producer of the animated series Scooby-Doo! Mysteries S / A , used his social networks to reveal something completely new, and that heated the hearts of several fans and admirers of the production.

All enthusiastic, the professional stated that the character Velma, is part of the gay community, and published a photo of the young woman, with the colors of the rainbow, right after the LGBTQIA + pride day .

After the post, some fans questioned Tony, about an involvement that the girl had at times, with the character Salsicha , ”at the beginning of the series, but they were surprised by the answer of the creator.

“I've said this before, but Velma In mystery incorporated is not bi, it is gay. We always planned on Velma acting a little out of character while she was confused with herself and had a hard time understanding why. There are hints as to why in that episode with the mermaid, and if you follow Marcie's whole arc, it seems as clear as we could have done 10 years ago. I don't think Marcie and Velma had time to act on their feelings during the main timeline, but after the reset, they are a couple, ”he explained.

MY THICK NERDY GF IS NOT A CARPET EATER
I really like tomboys. They're exactly my type, but maybe I'm biased because I'm also a tomboy. I'm also bi though so them being into girls is actually better for me. Have zero interest in FtM (or vice versa) though. It does bug me when media tries to act like girls and woman who like "masculine" clothes and things aren't female. Or straight. Let em be what they want to be.

As for Velma being gay. It feels forced because it's been decades since her creation and just now it's being revealed? Alrighty. But it's not surprising, at all.

Literally, the only iteration I know of that bothered to have romantic subplots had one where she was vying for Shaggy's attention and was getting bested by a talking dog.
Also why is it that when characters have to be lgbt or show interest in the same sex when they have previously been interested in the opposite, it's always "they gay!". They may also be, you know, bi. I don't want to say bi erasure because I don't really know if that's a serious issue, but people think it's either/or instead of them liking both.
Edit: quoted wrong person.

The J K Rowling method of sticking diversity into media is alive and well, I see.

Taking their word that this was always the vision of the character, at least it wasn't ham-fisted and didn't steal attention away from the show. Even if this is true she's a character that happens to be gay, and not a GAY CHARACTER!!! which fine by me I guess. JK Rowling however engages in some pretty clear revisions, probably just making shit up due to not having actually not having drawn up backstories for most of of the characters she invents new things about. (and her doing this is a classic case of breaking "show, don't tell" which is why it is so grating).

The problem isn't really gay characters it's how they are integrated in the show. So, and I am assuming again this isn't actually some retcon or revision, it's fine by me as it was subtle.

Clearly, there must have been slight hints, merely googling up "Is velma a lesbian" shows a lot of people wondering this many years ago. I don't remember the show enough to remember the hints but I remember well enough that this was never made an issue of importance or concern on the show. The show was an apolitical kids cartoon.

They made a lesbian character without making a deal about it or using it for wokeness points so... who cares? The problem today is characters being retconned into being gay (see Willow on Buffy) or them being gay with the show making a big deal over it when it's not important to the show like on Star Trek: Discovery. This shit only really matters when it feels forced and detracts from the story. So I guess I'm going to break with consensus here and say there's no issue here at all.

Oh wow, so the same producer from the original show said this? Oh wait, no, it was from the new WOKE shit, okay. Disregarded.
I notice that this has been happening a lot lately. "Series creator reveals that [X] is gay!" Turns out it's not the original creator, it's just some new guy they brought on. Same thing happened to Bert and Ernie.
