Watching Scott's video on building a game room made me realize that physical media may be on its way out in favor of digital and subscription services.

On the one hand, some copies of games are rare for various reasons, therefore expensive to purchase. And amassing such a collection would take up care and space.

However, with physical media, you have a direct copy of said game. It is a tangible product that you own. And seeing a shelf of games (or any media) shows you are committed to said hobby.

There's also the perks of emulation to consider... but there's something about seeing your collection grow that means something.

I didn't know Pizza Hut and PlayStation collaborated with demo discs and pizza.

Who even buys demos anymore? If I see a game that interests me, I'll read reviews, watch some videos and pick it up on sale.

Might be an unpopular opinion of mine but I blame the current state of pre-ordering on the trend of demo discs back then.

Companies look at the past as a blank check to release broken, incomplete software, biggest difference being they forego standing by their product.

Demo discs could contain assets or material of a build of a game unreleased or hidden in the actual games. If you look hard enough, it's possible.

I see what you're saying, but demos are fragmented builds of games.

Now BETAS, they're just glorified demos nowadays. They release them weeks if not days before the final product. No time to take feedback and change the product as need be,

ouch, this just made me feel like a real old fuck.

The Pizza Hut demo disks were such an amazing thing when I was a kid. It's what introduced me to Metal Gear Solid.
I remember seeing games inside of cereal boxes.

I miss interacting with console kiosks at the store. I saw A Crack in Time at a Gamestop, I was immediately sold.
