How involved are the main site's staff involved with that, though? Do you think whoever runs that site simply didn't think it should've been preserved or did staff go the extra mile in scrubbing the article?
Staff isn’t involved in it. Their only involvement is that they had to capitulate to it with new policy, even though they tried to disagree with it, to be consistent with their stunt over Harmony’s articles. The creator of the Wiki hasn’t put DDD up because it is thermonuclear and people want it memory-holed.

ObserverSeptember is a smart guy, he’s not going to put himself in alignment with staff if he knows which way the wind is blowing.

Do you think that's a good thing? Weird question, especially from me, all things considered, but "memory-holed" might be a bad thing in this case since it removes evidence from the case against Bright.

I mean, I said I wanted it entirely erased before, but now I'm thinking that stuff like that being forgotten isn't super helpful. When people ask what's the deal with Bright, we can point them to the archive for DDD, sure, but that doesn't really capture things like the discussion around it before and after me, edit history, stuff like that.

I also can't believe nobody else thought it was kinda funny staff almost instantly deleted DDD when Bright asked, but won't concede to anyone else's requests.
DDD was deleted because its continued existence on the wiki made them look bad, not because they respected Bright's autonomy as the author. I wouldn't be surprised if Bright had to be strong-armed into allowing them to delete it. The rotting corpse under the floorboards can be ignored when only the host knows about it, but it's gotta go once the guests complain about the smell.
To be fair, it's not really worth preserving IMO.

Notice that, with the exception of the old 4911 and a few of his own works, Observer has exclusively archived the works of people who are on RPC now (and Fishmonger). Plenty of SCP authors have had their things deleted over the years and just moved on, but Observer has specifically grabbed the works of people who quit the site on bad terms or moved their things to RPC. He's also using the license to justify his disregard for the wishes of the authors, pointing out that they released their articles under CC when they posted to the wiki in a way that reeks of smugness. This isn't motivated by a desire to preserve good work for future readers, this is motivated by spite.

Speaking of archival, I found this by chance while browsing the wiki (archive, discussion archive). There's been quite a few pieces like this over the years, and I think it speaks to the impact the wiki has on the mental health of its users that this isn't even close to the first time a wiki user has had a breakdown in this fashion. I hope this person gets help.

Yeah, a 1:100 replica of staff’s treatment of author rights. Monkey see, monkey do.

Just a reminder that the ethical principle of honoring authorial rights predated staff’s technical understanding of the CC license by half a decade.

The brushing away of this tale is emblematic of the community’s general discomfort facing a large disfigurement in its own reflection. That’s a powerful piece of commentary, if unintentional and if just that. Not saying it belongs. Seems like a hard place to be; a desire to produce yet doing so right up against a wall. Kudos to Hippo, their desire to relate and help hasn’t changed in years, strong as ever. I think we’ve all felt something of what the author is saying. Even kak, probably more than the average user, who knows performative pieces as well as anyone, just not as honestly; and who pretends in secret that the sentences in the tale don’t apply to his own insecurities. Shame on that oaf. People like him foster the conditions that make people like the author. Don’t look for a disciplinary citation after that uncalled-for comment. The ape slings his influence like stool.

I’d encourage the author to write for RPC, “the minor leagues”, to get their confidence under them. Then they can head back to SCP for the “big times” if they still feel that creaky analogy is accurate.

You'll notice ARD is particularly dickish all the time about Scantron. He went on to become/was an Admin at the times of these statements. It's no wonder that the staff's image problem is finally catching up to them. Procyon as admin is worse. If he gets admin, I'll have to do a special staffchat drop of his quotes. Him as admin + kaktus maybe winning the 6k without the buttress of way better writers to help him out. ..I think end times must be here. Not much longer now.
The way their critiques of Scantron's politics change over time, as the userbase shifts further and further to the left... it's just... mmm... *chef's kiss*.

On a related note: reading the old discussion pages, it's sad to see how genuinely diverse the site's userbase used to be in comparison to the current one. There used to be people with all levels of expertise and life experience... now it's just endless tumblr tranny monoculture circlejerk. This is basically Internet gentrification.

It’s not that there is an influx of any one group, more so that there’s more content than the group of people who actually try to read everything to possibly keep up, the more enmeshed you are in the community the less you keep up with trying to read stuff not written by other power users.

The Duksin lawsuit is back on the menu, with an update on the GoFundMe page and from the lawyer's VK. Looks like SCP is lawyering-up even more and they want the fans to write in letters of protest to demonstrate the international awareness.

Hello, everyone! It's been busy behind the scenes, and we have some information to release now.

The biggest news is that we have retained the services of further lawyers. Mr. Chusov is still on the case and will still be assisting, but we now need more specialized advice to make sure that we can completely dismantle Duksin's attempts to trademark SCP. We've made some important strides, but we can't quit now. We need to make sure that SCP continues to belong to everyone who wants to create for it under the Creative Commons license, not just one person.

The new lawyers believe that it's time to bring attention to the many people affected by Duksin's shameless actions. To that end, they've asked that letters be written to the Intellectual Property Court of Russia. If you can spare the time to write out why you believe that Duksin's actions are wrong and unfair, and why SCP is important to you, we would appreciate it greatly. If you decide to write such a letter, we ask the following:

First, it should be an actual paper letter, with your actual signature on it. Many people will send an e-mail on a whim. Not many people will send an actual letter, which will show the court that you really mean what you're sending.

Second, it should be addressed to the court itself. Their address is:

CHIEF OF THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY COURT
LYUDMILA ALEKSEEVNA NOVOSELOVA,
OGORODNYJ PROEZD STREET., H. 5, BLDG. 2,
MOSCOW CITY,
127254, RUSSIAN FEDERATION

Third, please reference case number 143/2021. This makes sure that they know what your letter is referring to.

Fourth, please be polite. While most of us are angry with Duksin, the person reading your letter is a neutral party. We do not want them to be put off by vitriol or profane language.

Fifth, please write the letter in your own language. The IPC will be able to translate it themselves, even if it's not Russian. If all of the letters arrive in Russian, then it may undercut the fact that this is an international effort, with people affected all around the globe.

Finally, use your own words. I cannot write this letter for you, because I can only guess what SCP means for other people. This is your chance to be heard, and to let people know why this shared universe is important for you.

I understand that not everyone has the time to write out a letter like this. But if you're able to, it would really help out our efforts to protect SCP for everyone.

Good day.

Brief update on the trademark case. The English wiki has decided to strengthen its team of lawyers defending our interests in court.
The contract has already been signed and the work continues.

The next hearing in the Intellectual Property Court is scheduled for 07/02/2021, however, we draw your attention to the fact that it may well be postponed due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation. We hope this does not happen.

We will inform you about all important events occurring during the trial.

Also, the English wiki has launched a letter-writing campaign to the court, the purpose of which, among other things, is to clearly demonstrate to the court that our project is widely known abroad.

We will also issue a post based on the results of the meeting, but we ask you to understand it if it does not deliver a final verdict.

I can imagine the staff is under a lot of stress, particularly Mann. A crisis abroad and from within. That's a two-front war.

Wow, they’re actually losing despite leaving the beggar bowl out as long as humanly possible, it must be bad losing if they’re trying to start a letter-writing campaign. If that’s all it takes why didn’t they do that to begin with? Talk about a Hail Mary.

10:1 odds that absolutely nobody on staff sends a letter on their own accord, that’s a job for the fans just like paying for the lawyers. 160k for what? I want my 15$ back.

MalyceGraves, a Mod on a bunch of different teams, has been written up after multiple users filed complaints over a screenshot that got leaked in SCPD, which I have attached below.
Between this and “The community isn’t the users” maybe staff should stop posting in Discord for awhile. Talk about sour grapes, Jesus Christ. Interesting that Yossi’s postulation of “maybe we should stop being assholes and listen” is couched as an unpopular opinion, I guess MAST isn’t as effective a vehicle to run things and get progressive policy as we hoped when we made it together.

Maybe Malyce is right, if you give up the job and walk away before everything really implodes then you’ll have that much more distance from whatever drama rips it up next. Give up before it gets any more painful.
