Just wanted to start a thread about weird situations that one can't quite place. I'll give you an example...

So I went to a Bitcoin ATM today to cash out and when I got there there were 2 middle-aged Asian ladies putting $50 dollar notes in for 5 minutes straight. I don't know how long they'd been there for. After the older woman finished, the other woman took a photo of the receipt, crouching on the floor.

Am I weird for thinking that might be slightly criminal?

That just sounds like they had a lot of takings from a cash business (like laundry or clothing alteration type thing) and didn't want to put it into the bank and pay taxes on it. It's illegal but witholding cash from government leeches is pretty much a moral imperative so I'd give it a pass.

Yeah that's slightly fishy. I feel the same whenever a slav or redneck/cholo makes a $1,000+ money order at a grocery store. Of course it could be legit, but the whole point of laundering money is to appear legit when you aren't, so w/e.

Previously that location had a Bitcoin ATM that just took cash once a QR code was given. Now Australian legislation requires photo id and a phone number.Maybe they're the front people. Once money goes to a Bitcoin. Address one could, presumably 'wash it's via monero or zcash or a any other 'privacy coin'.

@CrunkLord420 just wondering how common this kind of stuff is via crypto ATMs, you're the big beast on this area.

What's the vibe of the people making the money order? Kinda skeezy?

This couple in my apartment building called the cops saying they saw a guy in the alley next to us removing the kidneys from a pair of swiss backpackers by a dumpster using a rusty pocket knife and a plastic spork.

I’d been wearing a rubber Jay Leno mask at the time so I didn’t get caught.
Hopefully they went well with a nice Chianti?

Well, bugger me sideways, they actually exist. I thought this was a dumb troll thread until my curiosity got the better of me and I did the googlings.

The Russians are usually more put together, both the rednecks and cholos are pretty self-explanatory as far as 'aesthetic' goes. That being said, seeing someone well dressed in a Wal Mart in and of itself is kind of weird.

Unless you know what you're looking for you typically won't see one. They're typically not out in the open, mostly in stores and other businesses.

They sound like some type of cash mules. They're probably not worried about getting caught for laundering money out of ignorance or desperation, or maybe they know exactly what they can do before hitting red flags. They were probably sending a picture of the QR to the actual owner of the money.

Everyone who buys/sells BTC from an ATM is sketchy or just incredibly ignorant. They are huge premiums on those prices. If you could do it a legit way through a proper exchange, you would. Drug dealers are okay with paying 20% premiums.

Many years ago, a friend and I had just gotten out of a showing of Inglorious Bastards, and were standing by her car talking about various bullshit. It was fairly late, maybe 11ish. Our town was small and violent crime was low, so we thought nothing of standing around late at night. We weren't even totally alone, as there were other people milling about the parking lot. So we're talking about whatever when this car pulls up and the driver asks us how does he get to (nearby town) from here? We tell him, as there's one connecting highway that's literally right in front of this parking lot, so we just pointed at it and said follow that road and you'll be there. Can't miss it. Impossible to fuck up. This guy however, keeps asking us if we could show him exactly how to get to the town, could we, or at least one of us, ride with him so he knows for sure how to get to town? Obviously we say not a chance in hell, but he keeps asking and offering to buy us drinks at a bar in town if we help him and that he'll give us a ride back. He started getting very insistent about it, that we HAD to ride with him to nearby town, almost hostile about it. My friend and I keep telling him no, he keeps insisting, until my friend gets pissed and tells him to fuck off before she calls the police and pulls a handgun out, not threateningly but just out. (This being the South where everyone has a weapon). He finally drives off, but circles the parking lot and parks by a tree for a minute or two before driving down the highway, at a slow pace. We got in my friends car and kept talking for maybe like 20 more minutes, watching around us to make sure there wasn't any odd cars around. We were spending the night at her place so she even took a super long way home, just to be sure no one was following.

Now, I don't mean to be racist here, but the driver had a heavy Jamaican accent, which was highly unusual in our small southern town. Literally no one in the town was Jamaican, hell we barely had a handful of black people as it was, so this dude definitely stood out. He was driving a pretty nice car too. Never saw him again or even heard about anyone matching his description. That movie came out however many years ago and this incident still gives me the creeps.

When you get older and wiser you will revisit memories of things that were almost forgotten and process it with a mind that doesn't belong to a teen, there was so much sketchy shit going on. I was always weary of the older(30+) gay dudes that tried to glue on to you but holy shit in hindsight I understand the mechanism of the setup they were running. It seemed shady then but much more so in hindsight, I've met a couple of guys that got sucked into that kind of prostitution as minors.

Deffo aware of the cons to these ATMs, was just skint more than anything else. The fact they completely ignored me was kind of weird as well. Considering every altcoin, even fucking CHAINLINK as @chainlinktrillionaire pointed out, is going gangbusters.

It was more a matter of needing cash fast so I willingly paid the premium.

A couple years ago this guy bought some stuff at a K-Mart and five minutes later he returned it got his money back at the customer service desk. I don't know if he was using counterfeit money and he was going back to collect the real money from the return.

Another time I was at a parking lot waiting for my friend a middle aged woman asked me If i needed a lady friend.

I remember hearing about a guy on grindr asking for money like 20 bucks and then asking the person in the car to drive him to these different spots.

I remember I was my mother at a Wal-Mart this white guy asked us if we could drive to his house which near the airport. We knew the area there were no houses, but low end motels that were turned into apartments for section 8 housing..

I think I saw someone shoplifting soda in a Food 4 Less bathroom, and I almost wish I had found an employee and said something but I was too bewildered and not even sure what was happening. F4L's bathroom is pretty ratchet and looks like people shoot up in there so I prefer not to use it, but I did on this particular day. There was someone in the stall next to me muttering and to my great horror, a puddle of mysterious brown fluid was spreading in the floor. The smell of cola hit me and now I was less horrified and now very perplexed. The sounds that followed were like a liter of soda being drained into something so I assumed someone was too cheap to buy soda and decided that contaminating it with poop-particles was a better plan.
When I left the stall I did consider finding an employee, but then someone assumed *I* was an employee and asked me where something was.

At that point I was doubly perplexed becasue that means this woman looked at me and thought, "Ah yes, this visibly confused woman in an Iron Maiden shirt is clearly a knowledgeable employee."

Back when I was a teenager, I was manning the counter at my family's business when two young black guys came in. Without doxing myself too much, the main demographic this business caters to is middle and high income older white women.

Like, I can't even describe the feeling. It wasn't even a question, they WERE going to hold me up. There was literally no other reason for these people to be there. I had no idea what to do or how to react. One of the guys was trying to get me away from the register by "asking for help" with something in the back corner. I just stood there with a blank expression on my face, waiting for the other one in front of me to inevitably shove a pistol between my eyes.

With absolutely miraculous timing, my dad, grandfather, and brother walked in the side door. I guess they decided that they wouldn't be able to take all four of us, so they pretty quickly shuffled out the front door. Honest to God one of the scariest experiences of my life.
