SPOP is for little girls? I thought it was for depressed millennials who need to be told they're perfect all the time and it's all their parents' fault.
Anyway, men are only allowed to look like K-pop twinks now.

The Trump presidency was “dark times”? How coddled and entitled are these little shits that they can think that?

Sure, the USA has a lot of problems compared to the rest of the developed world. But it’s been living in a veritable golden age for decades now compared to what came before. We have clean water, vaccines, television…

Why else would people be scrambling to immigrate here, legally or not?

Did anyone under the age of 18 watch the She-Ra reboot? If you were a kid, would you want this?

That last take ... I'm so tired.

I actually think both styles are appealing in different ways. SPOP is very cute. Revelation is detailed and looks like the characters have weight. Both shows =have crazy color palettes that evoke the '80s (SPOP was just borrowing more from My Little Pony or Rainbow Brite for its colors). And there is going to be some kind of kid-friendly He-Man show coming out this year that will probably be more like SPOP. There's plenty for everyone.

I read an interview that said they were going to try to treat He-Man: Revelation like Shakespeare, no winking at the audience. That approach has more integrity than being embarrassed by the franchise and kickstarting it again for a quick buck or a complete reimagination. I think SPOP took itself seriously too, and that clearly got a dedicated audience for it. Good for them. But Revelation is a totally different approach and it's ridiculous to act like focusing on 40-year-old men is worse than focusing on 18-year-old girls. They're not even making it a shared universe where they have to hold these two wildly different tones together (like Star Wars has to do sometimes). You just take whichever you're into.

Also if we're supposed to "rework" the shows for a new audience, what's the point of connecting it to the old show at all? There isn't. It's not inherently more creative to "rework it" than taking the same characters and trying to pick it up where the old show left off. The second strategy that Revelation is taking is arguably much harder to pull off.

Anyway, this take is from Ashley Lynch, she always gets me riled up like this. 😤

Sincerity is the best approach to take with stuff that is outwardly campy. It allows it to be its best self without compromising on what makes it special in the first place.

Normally I like OSP videos because I like the subject matter, but then something like this happens. Even otherwise competent people can be complete idiots where the alphabet soup is involved. Gotta virtue signal your politics, especially during pride month season year whatever.

Fuck. Why do people make the alphabet soup political and bend over backwards like this? As if the corporate recuperation, gender woo, cotton ceiling, etc wasn’t bad enough, we have to deal with shitty and genuinely problematic writing being praised as the norm.

Honestly, forget He-Man, Sailor Moon looks cooler than the new She-Ra does. That at least is eye catching with some of its designs and presentation and general anime asethic.

The new She-Ra looks like another in a long line of "Adventure Time knockoffs'" that makes action/adventure shows looks cutesy and non-threatening.

Sorry, but I want my action/adventure shows to look cool. The original She-Ra, even with the limitations that went hand in hand with Filmation, looked cool. This new one just doesn't. That style might appeal to people, but not me.

One of the reasons I was excited about the way the new He-Man looks is that it just looks fucking cool. Lets pretend I know nothing about Masters of the Universe, this is the same studio that did Castlevania (which looked awesome) and Blood of Zeus (which also looked awesome). Fucking hey! Even if the writing is faulty, at least it will look cool!

Started watching Amphibia and honestly it's one the better Calarts Adventure Time knockoffs. Sasha is what Catra SHOULD have been like.
Funny how a show written by a Sonic fanboy represents complicated friendships between teenage girls better than Noelle's disturbing fantasy where all women want to f*ck each other.
While I agree with all your points I also do think parts of that show are Disney going "fuck it, we'll just steal from anime directly."
Still a solid series. Enjoy.

If you're going to copy another kid's homework, may as well be the one who's actually good at the class, right?
True that. Plus, references are always going to be a thing in modern animation considering our generation grew up watching anime. I mean shit, there's a Kingdom Hearts reference of all things in OK KO.
