I'm sure the mary sue and polygon will be happy that they can write a couple of puff piece articles about how she-ra is great and how the internet is terrible for thinking it looks bad and calling the author a dyke or somesuch.
This is important news so I am glad people will click on it rather than read a boring article about murder, sqaulor or some other not as important bad thing.

Over the weekend, the first images from Netflix & Dreamwork’s upcoming She-Ra reboot showed up online. Noelle Stevenson, the Eisner-winning creator of Lumberjanes and Nimona, will be serving as showrunner and executive producer, and we’ve been anxiously waiting to see what her take on the beloved 80s character would look like. We are not disappointed.

The images were released in EW, and we’ve also gotten permission to post them here. Not only does She-Ra look amazing, but the other “Princesses of Power” look totally badass.

There’s so much to be excited about. The original She-Ra told the story of Princess Adora, the long-lost twin sister of Prince Adam (aka He-Man). She’s able to transform into She-Ra via the Sword of Protection, the parallel to her brother’s Sword of Power. The show was an over-the-top 80s joy, and Stevenson is such a fantastic choice to bring us a more modern but equally fantastic version. The new animation style totally reflects that. It’s so cool to see a more realistic-looking She-Ra, with muscled arms and a more practical (but still gorgeous) outfit. Plus, in the original, Adam and Adora were 16-year-old children. I’m not sure if that will be true of the reboot, but it’s nice to see a youthful, playful-looking She-Ra.

Not everyone is happy about the new design, of course. A whole bunch of grown-ass dudes have felt the need to let us all know this new She-Ra–a character from an animated children’s show–doesn’t sufficiently impress them and their potential boners. I don’t even want to give these weirdos the attention of embedding their tweets, but boy, they are super mad that She-Ra no longer lives up to the scale of hotness they demand from what is, again, a show for children.

At its core, this anger over a lack of conventional hotness isn’t really about the character. It’s about these men not being able to handle anything, including a show that is and always has been primarily aimed at young girls, that doesn’t take their desires into account before all else. This demand to have an ownership over She-Ra’s appearance is a bit of an extreme (though not unusual) example, but it does shine a light on just how pervasive this notion is. There are far too many men who are genuinely angered by the existence of anything that treats them not even with disdain, but with indifference. Even things that are for women or girls must first and foremost appease men or risk angering or alienating them.

Loving that No True Scotsman fallacy. Sure, it sounds like a stretch, but not every argument for this kind of thing is about someone's boner, TMS. It really comes off like "No true woman/girl would ever gripe about this, it's all horny dudes." Sigh.

The only people that should care about the She-Ra reboot are the kids it's made for. Not old cows on the internet who's argument is neener neener icky boys. I don't remember any boys let alone men caring about She-Ra other than when she showed up in the weird Christmas special.

But of course they made the love interest a nigger.

All I can hope for is that he is just as incompetent in the reboot. But that would likely be racist.

That guy was supposed to be the love interest? I thought he was the gay best friend.

Seriously though, I actually like Filmation's retro designs, but I don't have a problem with this. It was a gay show apparently made by gays (according to the voice actors), it was always camp.

Though I wouldn't appreciate the camp being thrown out for sermonizing.

I agree it's not that bad. A lot better than Thundercats Roar. Redesign of pink princess is still really cringy and walking Tumblr stereotype, but I quite like new She-Ra (especially Adora).
But eh, another reboot. And all people complining are of course "horny males".
And why people are so excited about this? She-Ra never striked me as very popular show with visible fandom, nobody was talking about it until now and media is crazy about this reboot now.

It wasn’t a very popular series to begin with. It only had 2 seasons. He-man came out first and became popular, so Mattel said “Hey! Lets make a girl version!” Which kind of flopped.

Most of the people who are/were into She-Ra were 3-5 yr old girls when it came out. Not a huge population of people, but it's one of those nostalgia things. Very niche, very camp. :powerlevel:I watched both He-Man and She-Ra, but it's She-Ra I lovingly blame for my female power fantasy of throwing down with a BFS in a pretty outfit with a sparklehorse and a tiara. :powerlevel:

I'm pretty sure the majority of people shrieking about "horny boys bein' mad" never even really gave the show a second thought, let alone were ever a part of the impressionable target audience they wanted pining for their toys.
Same with the people complaining. They miss the point that She-Ra now looks closer to her story's age, which will likely attract a wider range of kids as viewers and probably give the series a good second life outside of a toy line.
Both of these sides are a hot mess.

I think this "conflict" will fizzle out, but we'll see. If the series does as well as, say, the new Voltron, then that might stir up a lot of material for the SJW art thread.

I think the strangest defense of 2018 He Ra on social media I've been seeing is "she's a sixteen year old girl you sexist weirdos that's why she doesn't have breasts or hips."

wat

The fact that it seems to be mostly women who presumably went through puberty themselves saying this makes it even weirder.

To be fair, a lot of girl I knew who were sporty types were pretty thin- not very curvy, which is the body type I’m assuming they were going for. SheRa does look very malnourished though.

Anyways, the animation doesn’t seem to be... too bad? I never grew up with SheRa past having a figure of her and SwiftWind, the original show was already gay looking enough. Basically, it looked like a show made by a bunch of men who had no idea what girls were into so they just slapped tits onto HeMan and raped the rainbow to make the show.

Artstyle doesn't look quite bad compared with the extremely simplistic artstyle we usually see, and there's some effort put into it.

I'll agree that she does look boyish and it does pander to Tumblr to an extent, but it's not the worst we've seen.

IMO there's just a lot of sperging out all over this dumb show, which need I remind you, doesn't seem like anything ground-breaking or original at all.

Here's a handful of videos from a couple cows:

Of Fucking course it's another video from him regarding traps.

*Not a cow, though tied to the "Liberalist or Skeptics community"

And then some videos from individuals that aren't (currently) cows, both for, against, and indifferent to the new show:

According to a gay friend of mine, She-Ra has a cult classic following among the gay community and I'll include something he told me... "You know, and tell me if you feel this too - the original show was VERY queer. It was like their world was fashioned by drag queens and lipstick lesbians. This iteration looks toothless, and maybe I'm wrong and the plot will rock. But after...somebody on the team yelled at it being a show for kids...well the original one was too but you saw how they snuck in things not meant for children."

She-Ra was a major influence on me back when I was a kid and those that I've talked to about the series still remember it fondly so there is that connection.

Gingers have always been the white version of niggers except actual niggers don't explode when exposed to the sun.
I was thinking about this more and my opinion regarding niggers has been reinforced. Niggers are the new accessory to white people. While that is not new, what is new is the juxtaposition with gingers. Typically, whites compliment and eventually mimic the hair of the ginger, albeit unnaturally, due to ginger hair being seen as somewhat exotic, unique, etc. Now with the replacement of ginger characters by niggers, maybe white people will darken their skin or seek only black people for friendship.

There were three character designs for She-Ra in the 80's. The cartoon version, mini-comic version and the storybook version. Tbh, I preferred the storybook version since she does look like a teen, but isn't flat as a board like this new one.

I do like the idea of spanx under her skirt tho. *yawn*
I always tought the becoming an adult thing made more sense since she was becoming more powerful. (Now has the image of an elderly Adora using the sword and becoming young again.) Personally, I don't mind the spanx, either.

I just hope they don't mess up the other characters' designs.

In one of the videos you posted (more specifically, the last one), someone raged about it being CalArts, which is really dumb:

How can you look at this She-Ra reboot, and tell me that the designs are pretty simplistic or based off some stock shape? Like I said before, this one actually had some more effort onto it and if even this is considered simplistic animation, I don't know what to say anymore.

Besides the outrage about the word CalArts is dumb to begin with mainly because the animators who were into this 'CalArts style' never even graduated from CalArts in the first place. Just criticise about the animation being too simplistic instead.

Rest of the video comments are just sperging about "Stop saying 'it's not that bad'" like this one just to want to be offended for the sake of being offended. If you rage about a cartoon that realistically back then not much cared about to have a reboot, you might as well rage about Johnny Quest and both are a waste of your time:
