What tieflings look like in D&D:
Female_TieflingWitch.jpg
Holy shit. I've never had cause to bring it up before, but I've been in enough D&D groups to tell you these people always have the worst character concepts.

I really hate when people bring their emo fuck-you-parent type fantasies into my vry srs majestic High Fantasy campaign. You can have fun with it but please don't have your concept be "extra speshul anime teenager". But then, Beregond is one of my favorite LOTR characters because he's not special, he's just a person in extraordinary circumstances trying to do his job.

And more often than not they try to derail the game if it doesn't go their way, but that's not a trait strictly limited to SJW types.

one argument could be the chestplate just flatten it. it tends to do that. even then that's not a good reason honestly.

was expecting better from this trailer.
In real life, women in armor just look like small men in armor.

This show doesn't have a realistic art style or realistic armor though so what's the point of that one feature being realistic when nothing else is? Unless you just don't like overt femininity.

It's really almost looking like some dangerhair's vanity project.
Maybe cause it is.

I will never understand the logic behind handing over old iconic franchises over to people who have nothing going for them aside their finely crafted identity politics persona and then watching as they turn that franchise into a bland virtue signal nonsense mess.

Remember the saying: "Get woke, go broke." I'm getting interested in seeing how much of a trainwreck this could be (though I would like to be proven wrong). Honestly, there are people who I think would've done a better job handling the series like Mike Young Productions (who did the He-Man reboot) or Kunihiko Ikuhara (who did a lot of work on Sailor Moon and Utena).

It's chalk that one up to the artstyle not knowing the difference between metal armor and Power Ranger-esque spandex covering. Though even Power Rangers would have some obvious chest bumps with their female characters.

Mike Young Productions doesn't even exist anymore (they became Splash Entertainment and produced Norm of the North and those Alpha and Omega sequels), but you're right in that they'd probably do a better job than what this is shaping out to be.

I noticed in the cast section they took out all, but one of the male horde members that isn't Hordak. (As well as Kowl, Imp and Madame Raz.) I'm curious why they did that. I know they didn't want any "smart-alecky characters" so that would explain Imp and Kowl. I guess Mentenna, Grizzlor and Leech were to toxiclly masculine.

I guess so. Either that or they couldn't get their designs to work in this style.

But I'm willing to bet it's the masculine excuse.

I was a big fan of He-Man and She-Ra as a kid (hence my avatar) so I don't want the show to be bad.

However, I am also very weary of anything that has female hero leads these days. Not because that idea is inherently bad (it isn't) but with today's political shit-storm around identity politics, it makes me want to just stick my head in the ground and wait for it to pass.

Any time something like this has come out, you get people that will love it no matter what because it stars a woman and then accuse everyone that doesn't like it of being sexist, and then you get people that will hate it no matter what just because the SJWs like it, and it becomes a needless shit show.

Look at the Wonder Woman movie. It is a perfectly entertaining film and BY FAR the best of the DC movie universe they are in the middle of. It didn't need the moral grand standing or white knighting that some people gave it. It was a good movie and should be allowed to stand on its own merits, which were good writing, charming leads, a fun story, some cool action sequences, and a romance that actually worked for me, which is rare in big blockbusters. However, I also had issues with the film (the fight with Aries at the end was laughably bad). Me pointing out the faults doesn't make me a sexist, and pointing out the strengths doesn't make me a cuck. I judged it by the same standard I would any movie or piece of entertainment and overall, I liked it.

I want to give that same chance to the new She-Ra, especially since it was something I grew up with and have a fondness for. However, I can just feel the shit storm brewing already and I hate to see one of my childhood properties get swept up in it.

Looking at the teaser...yeah they are hiding a bunch of stuff which worries me because sometimes its the stuff you don't see that raises my eyebrows (for example, I don't recall the Beauty and the Beast trailers showing Emma Watson singing). I mean, I want it to be good, but what I saw here looked more like Sailor Moon than She-Ra, which might work for some people I guess, but it isn't my cup of tea.

I'm already not a fan of the voice for She-Ra. I mean the original voice (provided by Melendy Britt) commanded attention and invoked a sense of heroism and femininity as well. This just sounded like a teenager trying to act tough.

As for the design...okay I don't want to sound like a guy that says "Where muh She-Ra tits?!" but She-Ra just looks so...normal, like a subpar cosplayer. He-Man and She-Ra, to my young self, were very idealized and perfected portrayals of humanity, like statues of greek gods come to life but with hearts and compassion greater than all others. I get you don't want to show off a bunch of skin (though that begs the question, why tackle She-Ra, He-Man, or anything else related to this property if you don't want to? I mean showing off the bods is part and parcel of MOTU, right?) but can She-Ra at least look like a woman?

Again, I'll reserve judgment until I see it. I hope its good. But if I turn this thing on and Hordak has orange skin and talks about wanting to make "Etheria great again", I am going to lose my mind.

That's a great way of putting it; that they're supposed to be idealized. The SJW version body positvity and feminity resentment clashes with that.

Strength and beauty are evil. Weakness and ugliness are good.

All I can say to that is blame Steven Universe for perpetuating this.

Seriously. That counterculture Western Animation is in dire need of can't come soon enough, thanks to BS thinking like this alone.

I'm NOT going anywhere near this crap, BTW; this conversation we're having on how bad an idea this all is is more than enough time sinking into it for me, honestly.

I won't say everything I watched that's animated from this decade (without saying examples, that's enough :autism: out of me) is bad, but crap like this doesn't help me to speak kindly about current decade's animation output, either. It's all gonna come down to an emerging counterculture in the 20's to really set things right again. And it likely won't be on TV - but through streaming. However it happens, just let it happen.
