It's not that we dont care about fiction, it's that we know it's not worth getting riled over. Stay here long enough and you'll quickly realize how the internet is non stop degeneracy, where the most harmless hobbies have violent autists and the most messed up shit is someone's fetish. Realize how incest, rape and loli are the most popular porn tags and how many furries genuinely want to fuck animals, then ask yourself if one teenage girl writing a Reylo fanfic is really the downfall of society.

Like, i'm not going to pretend fiction doesnt affect people and "it's just fiction!" is a not a good excuse to be a degenerate but in the end, you cant hate fiction because autists will be autists. JK Rowling never asked anyone to ship Hermione with Snape, some people simply did. It's creepy yes, but to say that shipper is "literally raping children and deserves to die" is fucking insanity. We are humans, our curiosity makes us like taboo stuff.

That's why i hate this ANTI vs PRO war. This kind of discussion isnt that black or white but no one cares. I'll still say tho, the anti side is so more austic/agressive so they deserve more mockery by managing to make the shippers look normal.

Basically this (although I dislike the "pro" side slightly more due to my own powerlevel experiences) - I find a lot of things abhorrent even if it's "just fiction", but I also know how free speech works and restricting some things can be a slippery slope (so I'm not 100% sure what my opinion on things like "Should fiction depicting [thing that is illegal IRL] be banned?" is), my life is too short to try to have a moral crusade against artwork/stories I don't like seeing. The closest thing is not wanting to associate with people who uncritically create/consume such content as a personal boundary.

To generalize, I think women are more likely to be crazy shippers while men are more likely to be the hardcore bodypillow waifu types (though there are some people who are both, or men like the former and women like the latter...whatever).

I'm definitely on the pro side because it overlaps with the same concerns I have with people policing published fiction, not just fanfic. Very disillusioning to see the sides flip over my lifetime on whether censorship is a good thing. But the pro shippers do get very tunnel vision about it sometimes. Rarely do I see the same energy when a writer is accused of being racist, for example; that's also just a purist idea of what topics can be explored in fiction (like they didn't handle race in the exact way a reader wanted them to). So a lot of the pro shippers can be hypocritical or obsessive about a kind of censorship/harassment that's OK.

A vast majority of people born with penises don't give enough fucks about shipping or fanfiction to send someone death threats over it. Same, and even if I agree with most pro shippers it's still embarrassing if I see adults among them arguing with 14 year olds. My mindset for this thread is pretty much the same as with the whole troons vs TERFs situation. To me, I just kinda find it weird how a predominantly LGBTwhatever community, is getting so ass-blasted and protective over fictional kiddie porn and the freedom of consuming and making that type of content
