Once upon a time, a lot of slash communities and fics were shut down on Livejournal because they were getting complaints from activists and/or governments that there was pedophilia there (some real, some like ... Harry/Ron art from Harry Potter). Fans got incensed because a lot of adult slash was going down too, so they saw pedophilia as the cover for taking down slash in general. So now they defend all of it because they don't think outsiders can tell the difference anyway. There's a lot of info on Fanlore about it. The whole reason Ao3 exists is because of that drama, so a lot of pro-shippers are a bit older and remember all of it.

Personally I feel like it starts being a bit of a slippery slope too, what counts as "fictional kiddie porn"? A gross Japanese lolicon doujin? Some bad MHA smutfic written by someone around the age of the characters? The novel Lolita?

Plus the fact that criminalizing and attacking fiction does nothing to help or protect real children who are being abused. Fighting against actual, real life child abuse will always be a much better use of resources than fighting against gross cartoons and bad fanfiction.

In all fairness, incestuous relationships in fiction stems back practically to the beginning of storytelling and even in mythology, it's only been in modern times with the rise of genetic research that it's been labeled as taboo. But nowadays, it's more "acceptable" as long as it's a same-sex incest pairing. Why else did Frozen get to be so popular online?

Usually guys who are into shipping either focus entirely on smut or they just have it as a side element to their stories.
