Suddenly it's 1996 again and I'm reading MSTings on GeoCities webrings. That sounds really interesting, actually. Must be in the same vein as the infamous "Artemis's Lover".
Gorillaz characters, famous for being prudes.Oh God. I remember stumbling across Gorillaz fanfic that featured one of them reading porn while another wanted him to stop because “it isn’t right.”
I couldn’t make it past that statment.
A common theme with crappy ships, or crappy shipping fandoms, is needing an enemy or needing character assassination. Something about certain ships appeal to vengeful or egotistical personality types and Harmony sounds like it's easily the latter. The boy who lived with the smartest girl ever appeals to all sorts of arrogant motivations.I'm surprised there's still Harmony (HarryxHermione) fanfics that turn Ron and Ginny into bad guys. Look if you want to ship Harry and Hermione more power to you. But why make Ron and Ginny assholes? Are they really still bitter that Harmony didn't happen? It's been almost 15 years. Get over it! At the very least ship Ron with someone like Lavender or Luna and Ginny with Dean or Neville yet they're all still friends. Almost every Harmony fanfic has Ron as a rapist, Ginny as a stacker, and they both use love potions. I guess they see the easiest they to get rid of them is to make them evil.
Fakir practically radiates 'possessive yaoi boyfriend' vibes in the early episodes. They quickly drop itI can’t really point to a scene that would have intentionally implied Fakir/Mytho
Okay you do have a point there actually. His dislike for Rue adds to that too since she claims herself to be Mytho’s girlfriend—I guess one does have to expect a fair amount of homoeroticism from an anime about classical ballet stories.Fakir practically radiates 'possessive yaoi boyfriend' vibes in the early episodes. They quickly drop itand he proves to be beyond basedbut one of the first things I thought besides 'wtf is going on' is 'why does he treat Mytho like that'. Mytho hangs around half naked a lot in their shared room and Fakir has no problem acting like a massive control freak and grabbing him by the jaw to growl in his face. I agree with you but jesus that was a strong first impression.
My favorite trope is when the reviled character is "hypocritical" or "a liar". The latter can become circular right away and the former is almost always the hater just inferring what ought to be discarded as simply out-of-character but holding onto it anyway (also circular).A common theme with crappy ships, or crappy shipping fandoms, is needing an enemy or needing character assassination.
Why TF would you want to wear a shirt like that? That's so embarrassing! This is a bit different from the normal content here, but the whole affair is rather cringe and I think it applies.

Bryan Fuller, the man in the embarrassing t-shirt here, is the showrunner of that recent-ish Hannibal tv series. Today I learned that he has a rabid following of hannibal/clarice shippers who hate him for not including a character he never had the rights to in his homoerotic fanfic.

I can barely tell what this guy is accusing Fuller of doing. Sexism I guess? Because he didn't utilize a character that he legally could not have used.
"I don't think people should be sent gore, be repeatedly harassed, be told to kill themselves, or even have attempts made on their life all because they thought two fictional characters would make a fun couple."Imagine explaining to a normie what a proshipper is without sounding like a paedophile or whatever.
Byran Fuller is a big supporter of the Hannibal fandoms shipping of Will and Hannibal (which is also the dominate ship in said fandom) so he is constantly on the shitlist for Clarice/Hannibal shippers. The person ranting is just another one of those who doesn't understand that because of the weird rights situation they have the rights to a bunch of Hannibal content but specifically not Silence of the Lambs. MGM owns the rights to that along with any characters introduced in it (Clarice) but Hannibal TV is working with the person that owns the rest which includes characters like Will, Hannibal, and many others (same person was also still interested in working with them on a new season). I remember back when there were first talks about a fourth season Fuller asked if the fans would want a new season to feature Clarice but Will wouldn't be in it and it was a pretty resounding no from the Hannibal fanbase to go without Will. After 3 seasons building up the dynamic between the two the show has pretty much become Hannigram center so most fans of the series have no interest if it doesn't include the two of them. This is a bit different from the normal content here, but the whole affair is rather cringe and I think it applies.

Ah, good one. I'm not exactly pro-shipping but I'm definitely anti-harassment."I don't think people should be sent gore, be repeatedly harassed, be told to kill themselves, or even have attempts made on their life all because they thought two fictional characters would make a fun couple."
