Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterston. Had to read that quasi oh who am i kidding MOSTLY-pornish novel for college. It's pretentious pseudo-intellectual horseshit trying very hard to pretend it's not being absolutely filthy porn while being some of the most explicit pr0n I've ever seen (and I'd already seen Penthouse ffs). It's something Dobson would fap to. (though there's a male-on-male scene that would probably give him the prickly wicklies.) :deviant: :deviant: :deviant:
Would you say this review of the book--essentially a short script between Detective John Munch (Law and Order: SVU) and Detective Frank Pembleton (Homicide: Life on the Streets) --is more or less confusing than the book itself?

Honestly, these two examples show what happens when you virtue signal.

When the writer for Wacky Raceland (a grim and gritty take on Wacky Races set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland) was being interviewed when the comic was coming out, he proudly mentioned how he changed Sgt. Blast into a young transwoman and Rufus Roughcut into an elderly gay man (as well as a few other changes). His said this idea was superior since they weren't going to just be straight white people. (He even had gay and trans people check the dialogue.) The problem that he was too busy virtue signaling to give Rufus a personality and even forgot he existed in the last two issues. Sgt. Blast's dialogue was mostly about not being ashamed of being trans. I think I'll take their "bland, white" versions over this.

Tom Batiuk (creator of Funky Winkerbean) hit a low with his pro-gay virtue signaling. About two months before the story arc's release, he bragged about having a plotline involving a gay teen couple signing up to go to prom. The problem is the gay are not given names, they don't even appear when the protesters appear and at the prom (nor do we get their oppinion), the principal puts them in their place and even gets a gay kid congradulating him at the prom for all that he's done for the gays (the character is "too scared to revel themselves" so all you see is their hand), there is not mention of the gay kids during the prom and the principal and his wife are crowned prom king and queen. So in the end, it was Batiuk just glorifying himself and his wokeness through the principal (who is black and he's white).

You know, reading that, I can't help but wonder if having Penelope Pitstop as a drag queen would've been a better option.
Although having Rufus Roughcut being gay at least makes some sense, if only for the Monty Python jokes.

I don't know if asexuality comes under the LGBT label but here's something particularly awful

And here's a link to the account: https://www.deviantart.com/popular-24-hours/?section=&global=1&q=JDMsnowmonkey

It would take too long to go into the details, but all you need to know is

A) the guy who wrote this is gay/asexual
B) he is a Sonic fan and a fur-fag
C) the subject of this particular piece is not gay
D) the subject is also mentally disabled

enjoy

Well my first gay experience happened like this:

I was about 50 yards or so up this path when I noticed a man standing off the side of the path apparently staring into the woods. As I got closer I realized his pants were down around his ankles and I could see his ass. Now, I'm straight but I have to say that it was a really nicely shaped ass for a man and I took notice. I figured maybe he was drunk and just peeing in the bushes, so I started to walk quieter so I wouldn't disturb him. But as I got closer I started hearing strange grunts and sucking sounds. I realized there was another man blowing him.

Now, I'm not gay but I slowed my pace down to watch. I slowed and approached the standing man from behind. His friend didn't take any notice as his eyes were tightly closed. I came right up behind the man standing so that I could have reached out and touched him. That's when I brought the cinder block down on his head, hard. He collapsed on top of his faggot friend and I quickly finished them both off. I rolled them into the bushes and finished my walk. That was only my first of many such gay encounters.

Anything by Poppy Z Brite. She/he/whatever fetishises gay sexual relations to an alarming degree, to the point that the plot merely serves as a vehicle to move the characters between ever more detailed and incredibly crass interactions. One of their books was loaned to me as a teenager, and I made it about a third of the way through it before realising that it was just vaguely-themed fapfodder for a person that desperately wanted their 'now kith' fantasies to work irl, with extra degeneracy when they got bored of plain ol' gayness - incest became a feature, as did a character daydreaming about what I can only describe as father/foetus fantasy.

Not gonna lie, it was kinda harrowing to read.

Can I just say "gay fantasy novels and the ugly women who write them?" It seems to be a sub-genre in chick lit (I want to say Mercedes Lackey is a primary offender here, but I'd need to do research, and that sounds like work.)

But to answer a question people have been posing, namely "why do we need LGBTQWERTY literature in [the current year]?" Because it comes with a built-in audience, and you need a much smaller audience to be a big deal in a pond that tiny as opposed to competing for the actual mass market. That's why it's so larded down with gay (in most senses of the word) wish-fulfillment as opposed to anything resembling quality writing: it's the literary equivalent of comfort food, appealing to peoples' carefully cultivated obsessions and victim complexes as opposed any attempt to introduce and resolve a conflict in the normal way. In the sense that it's shallow, emotive wish-fulfillment, it's porny even if no one actually gets off.

A decent shit test I've found for gay movies is "how long does it take the main couple to have sex with each other?" Shorter time increases the likelihood that the movie is bad or pointless. Don't know how well this maps onto novels though.

The Young Protectors wants to be that profound gay comic when Nerkish rightfully points out that the creator just wanted to see smut as a teen.
Wait, that comic is supposed to be profound? I thought it was zero-effort fanservice. (Shameful confession: I do have a soft spot for TYP despite it being gay as hell in every sense of the word.)

I'm as aspiring writer, and when there are Twitter pitch events I sometimes look through the others' entries, and it's pretty funny how many twitter characters people waste on identities. The pitch should be something like:
Frodo must take the One Ring to be destroyed, and not allow it to fall back into the hands of the Dark Lord. Aragorn is fighting off the Dark Lord's forces to protect his city, and to keep the Dark Lord's attention away from Frodo.
Simple, enticing, explains the stakes and character motivations but not the plots. What I see a lot of is:
Melanie is a mixed-race disabled princess, and her genderfluid partner and Muslim sister must fight the fire demon threatening their town.
Guess which type of tweet gets the most requests ... pretty depressing!

you should write a story about how a fat nonbinary tranny and her latinix anarchist girlfriend defeat the evil adolf trumpler and save the universe and then have gross sex afterwards

When the next pitch event comes around and if I'm still writing the one I'm doing now, I might make a new Twitter with a generically ethnic name and a picture of T'challa, see if it gets more hits. I might do an experiment where I pitch the same book but with different phrasing, and deliberately make the version I post from the "ethnic twitter" sound crapper than (i hope!) it actually is, and see which gets the most attention...

I hope this is the right place to discuss this thing:

http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/

A webcomic that has been running for years, yet has not improved its art at all (if anything it's gotten worse, early chapters at least had an occasional background, or posed the characters instead of just making them talking heads). But, worse than that is the writing, which much like the art I feel has gotten worse over time. The early chapters focused on a small group of characters, who started developing personalities outside of whatever part of the LGBT umbrella they fell under, but this fell apart when the author started adding in tons of characters in a way that feels like she's just adding them so she can say she has a character with this or that identity, not because she actually has an interesting character to introduce. As a consequence, the more developed characters we started out with began to fall to the wayside, and (and I hate using the TvTropes term) most of them became flanderized down to just their sexuality like everyone else.

There's also a major wall of text problem (that like everything else, has gotten worse over time). Characters will spew out exposition in a way that makes conversations feel clunky and unreal, because people just don't talk like that. It makes several points in the story a slog to get through, as it's just page after page of talking heads with massive wall-of-text speech bubbles.

It's honestly kind of sad, it had potential in the beginning to be quite a bit better than what it is now.
