This is not really a discussion for if America can expand its borders. It's more a question of if America SHOULD Expand its borders. As the world becomes increasingly authoritarian, China becomes more revanchist and threatens expansion into the Pacific and Indian oceans, and the EU threatens to become some nightmarish combination of nannystate and oligarchic kleptocracy, should the United States consider a policy of direct intervention and expansion that has not been done since the late 19th and Early 20th centuries. Most obvious targets being central America, the Pacific Islands, Canada and the UK. The objective could be anything from taking the kid gloves off and applying hard diplomatic, economic and military pressure to harden the American sphere, to outright annexation.
Is this something that should be done? Is it moral? More importantly is it necessary to preserve liberal governance in the face of a tidal of wave of authoritarian ideologies and naked expansionist ambitions by revisionist powers?
