Sorry if this has been covered before but I can't help but wonder if anyone else see a number of similarities between the relationships of Chris and Barb and Norman Bates and his mother.

Think about it. Barb manipulates virtually every aspect of Chris's life in order to maintain control over him. She has convinced him that the world is an evil place and she forbids him to have a life away from her. Chris and Barb live together almost as if they are the only two people in the world. This is seen in Chris's Facebook posts as well where he whines that it's him and his mother against the world. The relationship between her and Chris is neither healthy or normal (as has been noted multiple times on this forum).

The death of Chris's father was one thing. Losing Barb may put him over the edge. I don't think it's that far-fetched to imagine Chris being unable to let go and keeping her decaying corpse amidst the hoard at 14 Branchland Court.

Then there's the whole 'Tomgirl' / cross-dressing thing. Following the Norman Bates theory, this could be interpreted as Chris becoming his mother.

Yes. If she has a heart attack, what would Chris do? Probably shut the door and go back to vidya because it causes him too much STRESS to have to deal with something like that. If he stumbles onto her lifeless body after having not seen her for a few days, he wouldn't call the cops. He would just leave it where it is and go back to vidya. Given that

1. He hates change of any kind
2. He talks to imaginary people/cartoons

It's very likely that he would convince himself that all is okay, and he would keep talking to Barb as her flesh rots away/is eaten by bugs.

As long as his tugboat keeps coming in, this could go on for years, or until the Health Department at Greene County finally gets around to investigating his house and find a skeleton amidst the piles of crap.

My prediction: She dies, he facebooks about it, doesn't do anything else.

He really does seem to have all the ingredients to go beyond to super serial-killer crazy, but unless victims wander by and knock and wait for a while and then show themselves to the kill floor I can't see it happening.

Chris isn't literally crazy in that sense. He'd freak out and call Rocky or anyone he could, really. And they'd call the police. You're really overexaggerating Chris to think he'd just let his mother decay in the house.

yes, but how long before he notices?

I know you're joking, but in all seriousness they probably have a daily schedule that Barb practically forces on him that ensures he encounters her every day, so if she suddenly stopped in enforcing that one day (maybe two, but I'm giving Chris the benefit of the doubt here), I'm certain Chris would notice and flip out.

I agree that it's unlikely that Chris would simply leave his mother's decaying corpse to further clutter up the house. Given Chris's current emotional / psychological state, as evidenced from the recent Facebook dump, I was merely speculating on just how much deeper he could sink into mental illness.

The main point of my post was to point out the dangerous co-dependence between Barb and Chris, which bears a striking resemblance to the relationship between Norman Bates and his mother.

But again, to your point, Chris's brand of crazy isn't the serial killer brand of crazy. I don't see him going there either.

What....do you mean how Chris'tard and Norman turned into their mothers at the end?
He's already wearing Barb's underwear, I would bet that's quite possible, if not likely.
Chris is crazy, but he would most likely flip out if dear old mommy died and call Rocky or something. But not those dang, dirty Jerkops, where's you guys ever get the idea he'd do that? :tomgirl:

Good point about the underwear. Makes me wonder if part of the whole ridiculous 'Tomgirl' thing could have to do with some subconscious desire on Chris's part to, if not BE his mother, than be LIKE his mother.

Even when Bob was alive, it was quite obvious that Barb was the dominant force in Chris's life. Now that she's getting older, and her health is deteriorating, you'd hope she'd do the decent / responsible thing and start preparing Chris to be more independent. Instead, she just seems to be fueling his co-dependence on her. She wants him to remain her 'baby boy' until the end. Not only is Barb delusional, but she's completely selfish as well.

Chris might have turned out to be an entirely different person without her malign influence in his life.

Yeah I was thinking about this lately because I was on one of my "bored at work" Wiki-crawls and got onto Ed Gein, who is, of course, the basis for Norman Bates.

I imagine when Barb eats it, if nothing else, this quote about Gein will be applicable: "He had lost his only friend and one true love. And he was absolutely alone in the world."

Your comment reminded me of just how creepy I find the idea of Barb and Chris 'spooning' together.

There is also a video of Chris and Barb eating lunch (I think it's at McDonald's). Anyway, he's talking to Barb in that same creepy, sing-songey, lovey dovey voice he uses in the Ivy videos; telling her 'how pretty she is', etc.... Something just so not right about that video. :?

It's eerily similar, this is true, but let's not A-Log by saying chris will end up like Norman Bates.

It's been awhile since I've seen "Psycho" so I don't remember all the particulars.

Chris may very well be a peeping tomgirl if he got the chance, but he's not going to go around stabbing women while they take a shower.

Like someone else said, Chris has a history of talking to people who aren't there (Sonichu in MLW's office) so he may have imaginary conversations with Barb after she's dead. He may even justify his bad behavior by saying he's carrying out mama's orders.

Chris also is neither going to own a hotel or take in boarders, heck, he won't even have people spending the night, so he's not going to kill any guests and hide their bodies in a pond.
