Mine will always be Sweet Revenge by Ryuichi Sakamoto, it was such a triumphantly different album for its time, and even today the sound still leaks with identity, despite having a clearly 90s production quality to it.

I'm hoping that through this thread we can curate a general collection of good music, I do believe that anyone can enjoy a genre of music when it suits their style.

I have to go with Good Kid, M.A.A.D City by Kendrick Lamar. The track list is full of songs that work well on their own, but the album really shines when you listen to it all in one go with the story that it tells you.

That's definitely Kendrick's best, and I agree that its strength comes from how well it comes together as an entire album. There have been tracks here and there from other albums of his that I have loved more than anything he put out on Mad City, but the power of listening to this album in a sitting or a night drive is an experience you can only get with this album.

Demon Days. Every single song is a banger.
Excellent album for the De La Soul and MF Doom features by themselves

Personally I haven't been been happy with what projects he's put out since then besides some tracks like you've said. But I think M.A.A.D. City has enough excellent content to fill an average career.

Yeah definitely, it's kind of crazy how good it was for a Sophomore album, and the spotlight it threw him into was well deserved.

Close to the Edge by Yes. There's only 3 tracks but it makes up for it by being 3 damn good tracks.

I like this album but feel it is a mixture of gems and duds. For Sakamoto's pop output, Beauty is still the standard.

The album that I hold dearest is The Book of Secrets by Loreena McKennitt.

You know I actually feel there are a few duds in this one too, but I've found myself listening to the album over and over so much that I just can't consider it anything less than my favorite. Another thing about it is that I also appreciate the aesthetic of it as a whole, the cover art, the track names and contents, there is just a style set to it that I can't help but love. I have never actually listened to Beauty, Sakamoto has made so many albums and I'm always trying to get through them randomly, I will put that one on my list next!

No matter what mood I'm in, this album takes what I'm doing in my life and makes me fall in love with it, time and time again.

This album isn't just amazing on every track: without powerleveling, it helped forge some of my strongest friendships. RIP to Walter Becker, the main guitarist.

I have too many other favorites to count. There's just so much to comb through.

I like Wildflower a bit more myself, but that might just be cause it's a more recent release and I've heard it less.

Wildflower's great but I felt like their first effort was better-paced and a little more consistent. There are some amazing tracks on there, but Since I Left You felt like it had a nostalgic theme going that worked better.

I think, imho, that Low Budget by The Kinks is one of their best albums, always liked rocking to Catch Me Now, I'm Falling.
