the fallout has been hilarious, tumblr really can't process that there are countries outside of america that are a bit behind when it comes to human rights. way to bash on their beloved and opressed third world, the myth of the noble savage surpassing the white man in morality by far crushed forever.
edit: but also, as if those brats don't wear clothes made by child labour in asian sweatshops, they really have no ground to point their fingers like that. not that I'm defending sixpence, I just find tumblrs hypocrisy mind blowing. can't have cheap sneakers when human rights are in place, kids!

I'm actually kind of shocked people are saying she's Indian because I swear to fucking god I remember her icon being a picture of herself, as a slightly chubby white girl with longish dark hair and I was pretty sure she lived in the US.

Look, no one's saying the CHILD is a terrible person for doing this. No one. They're saying it's terrible for someone who's on the exploiter side of this divide to act like it's okay or even a humanitarian act where the children are being saved from worse fates by the generosity of the slaveholder.
People who prostitute themselves to survive and put food on the table aren't bad people. But that doesn't mean the johns who are fucking them are selfless benefactors. They're still the exploiters, taking advantage of a bad situation to extract labor value at far below what the going rate would be if there wasn't an underclass kept ready for exploitation.

I never intended for people to agree and excuse it when I said it looked like the least horrible option for the child in question. I was trying to view it the way sixpence and everyone around her would, and how they justify it to themselves. Shit like this becomes normalized when everybody around you is saying how lucky that kid is to be fed and not on the street, while doing fuck all to try and prevent children from ever being in such a position to begin with, and the children grow up thinking it's fine because they have a roof over their heads and a place to sleep, and everybody is telling them they're so lucky. So when foreigners are rightfully horrified, everybody can just say they don't understand their culture, they don't know what it's like.
Sixpence tried to make this better by saying she was going to "expose" it more but still tried to justify it. And now she's deleting everything.

I followed sixpenceee for years. I only unfollowed her a couple of months ago after it felt like her blog had become 70% clothing promotions. The breaking point was when there were literally three posts hawking overpriced clothing published back-to-back. Seriously, people follow your blog for creepy posts, not because they want to buy sweatshirts.
I don't want to go all armchair psychologist, but I do feel like the popularity of her blog has given her a case of narcissism. Like the "how to become the next sixpenceee" post mentioned, she constantly reblogs posts from other people that talk about how great she and her blog are.

I wouldn't doubt her blog meme came from a fan who said it once and then she took it and plastered it all over her blog. I'm just curious how she even kept the fans after all this time? I unfollowed when she first started to clutter her blog with clothing and self promos but mostly because the blogs she stole from were more interesting.
And most of her horror is 'man, schizophrenic people sure are crazy guise!' 'My schizophrenic dad drew some hyper realistic drawings of spooky things because he's schizophrenic' and a lot of people have pointed out that bugs them but she keeps on digging.
On the child slave, I don't think that sixpence has a choice in whether or not she can keep the kid, but again the way she responded was pretty shitty. And the issue of school past 5th grade costing money excuse is a bit shady since the child is only 8 and most 5th graders are 10/11 years old. Anyways here's a small thing to read about education in Bangladesh.

are there really people who seriously think that? from what I got, the people who say that these customs are normal in some countrys do not condone it
saying something is normal =/= finding it ok
that's also how I interpreted sixpence's excuses, she was trying to say that in her country it's normal and that she can't do anything about it because it is so normalized and tumblr mispresented it as her defending those customs. (though I have only seen a few of those posts, so my interpretation may be due to lack of information)
of course it's terrible, no one's denying that, but it's still normal in some parts of the world and those people there don't see it as terrible, same like most people here don't see johns and pimps as horrible exploiters (though I agree with you on that). moral values vary widely around the world.
I don't have any screens either but I was really into sixpenceee drama 3 years ago and I definitely remember her mentioning her family had (and apparently still has) a servant.
And IIRC the catalyst specifically was when she posted a story about a child who suffers from schizophrenia, along with these disturbing drawings he made, and called him "fascinating". And you're right in that she always vilified mental illness and even tagged just regular accounts about them as "creepy". I think this was around the time tumblr was getting especially sensitive about the topic of mental health (and everything else). I agree that it's really shitty to parade a sick kid around like a circus act, though.
I'm not sure if this is still the case anymore, but last I heard she also has a friend from college helping her run the blog. Though I don't know much about her except I'm pretty sure it was a girl.
I can see using her blog as a curation of the best of, because there can be quite a bit of uninteresting fluff on nosleep or /x/ or wherever one may browse for some spooky tales. But not crediting the source is real shitty. It would be mildly amusing if someone made some kind of bot that went around scanning her blog and reblogging all her reposts with a link to the source.
There is actually someone doing that, I think called SixpenceeeSource? Not a bot though. I think it was for sourcing the images she stole for her aesthetic blog initally.
I won't say what, but one of my pieces was posted there without attribution and I filed a takedown.
Good on you for taking initiative.
