On the PSN tracker I noticed that one of Chris' favorite games is Skylander. Does anyone know anything else about Chris and this franchise?

I was advised to stay far away from anything Skylander related by a coworker of mine who has kids. He says its a huge money pit, where you keep buying these figures of characters that are read by some hardware to unlock them in the game.

And now they're all doing it. Disney has their own copycat figurine game. Nintendo will have figurines you have to buy to unlock shit in Smash Bros.

Yeah, Disney Infinity is pretty much the same thing. It will be a huge shame if our beloved Smash Bros gets tainted by this too. I suppose the premium figurines is another incarnation of the Freemium/Microtransaction craze that has been plaguing the game industry.

Oh man, can you imagine if the Sonic figurine has blue arms? Would Chris embrace the change or he'll stop playing Smash Bros for this profanity?.
Probably he'll just buy the figurine, complain about it, and when people point out his hipocrisy he'll justify himself "I only did it to-to mmm unlock the special Sonic stuff in Smash, b-but I hate that figurine! RIOT THE STREETS"
Mark my words.

I have zero interest in Skylanders so I don't know much but mostly what I observe in stores. It's like Pokemon in the sense that you collect monsters and battle with them (I think). Unlike Pokemon however, if you want to use more'n a few characters then you have to buy the action figures in order to unlock them in game. It strongly appeals to Chris because he gets to play a game that's at least vaguely similar to a Pokemon game, and he gets toys to collect and play with when he isn't playing the game.

Nintendo is doing it right. They don't unlock anything, they just come with weird features that barely add anything to the game.

You can't even play with them though. They're solid statues.

Oh, didn't he like buy every single fucking thing in that simpson's phone app?
I believe so. His town in Tapped Out (which was an unorganized clutter of buildings) had pretty much all the DLC, IIRC.

I see that Buylanders crap in the vidya section of the store I visit a lot. It's right next to the infinity thing. Kids like to put the figurines (still in boxes) on the "portals" or whatever you call them. The screens play these looping demos that run over and over all day.

Anyway, as others have said, it seems to be like pokeyman with paid content, so like the TCG over 10 years ago (Chris remembers buying a particular card when 9/11 happened), I too can see it's appeal to Chris.

Chris gets satisfaction in spending his money on stupid collectible shit or stuff like legos. Oh, didn't he like buy every single fucking thing in that simpson's phone app?

Multiple times over. Someone did the math and the amount of donuts (game currency) he bought, even if they were during sales, would be over 1k dollars easily. I'm actually lowballing the estimate to be safe. This is a fucking phone app game. He could have bought two next gen systems with all the extra gadgets if he had never discovered the Simpsons game... or a shitload of legos to make him happy for maybe 3 whole days.

I wish Chris could get into something less expensive he could sperg out over. Like something that really just requires an initial purchase, some interest in it, and a lot of freetime. He gets attracted to all the huge money sink hobbies.

And a Kamen Rider version.
That's Japan-only. Wouldn't mind getting one to sit on my desk if shipping wasn't a bitch.

Some people just need to collect shit. New items provide a momentary high in a way and once that monkey's on your back, you don't feel the negatives until the consequences start kicking in. Trading Cards, Lego, Buylanders, it's a vicious cycle of sacrificing future stability for momentary happiness.

I haven't really paid much attention to the Amiibo stuff for Smash Bros., but I'm sure Chris will be into it since Sonic is in the game and will probably have his own figure.

That's enough to buy a good new computer. And that's just on that silly game. It's been said before, but no wonder he complains about not having enough for everything basic and the bonus round.

Also, it's sad that that's pretty much one of the few highlights of his day while cooped up in the hoard with Barb - buying collectible stuff.
