That's because England's American colonies were initially founded as a containment zone for Puritans, Quakers, and other weirdos the Crown didn't like but couldn't kill. It all flows downstream from there. What I find so strange about America (I'm in the UK), is how much the crazies mirror each other. You have some idiot religious zealot claiming a tsunami is payback for gays or something. Then you have people who would mock him, claiming a snow storm is pay back by how people voted.
Clown world.
If you look at what the Puritans believed and how they lived it's more like a cult than most people are comfortable with. America was founded on a cult? Partly on a cult and partly by entrepreneurs looking to make a buck or two from resources found here? And it's the way it is now? Quelle surprise. That's because England's American colonies were initially founded as a containment zone for Puritans, Quakers, and other weirdos the Crown didn't like but couldn't kill. We're an open-air insane asylum, and I'd have it no other way.
I'm pretty sure Texas has a really green grid, in the Green New Deal, are they going to mandate ice-resistant windmills or nuclear power or what? I'm confused how it would help.
Way to turn a tragedy into political fodder.
I thought it was kinda funny when people where hating him for blowing up that old PC. But after this post I hate him too.
The green new deal will end all these unplanned outages. The daily rolling blackouts will be planned.I'm pretty sure Texas has a really green grid, in the Green New Deal, are they going to mandate ice-resistant windmills or nuclear power or what? I'm confused how it would help.
In what way?Just so we're all clear, living in Texas is a "burn the coal, pay the toll"-type situation. You get what you fucking deserve.
Well it's keeping me from thinking about the fact that I have food on the stove that is ready to be eaten but I'm too lazy to get up and get it.What is with all the mocking of people suffering from a natural disaster in this thread?
Because southerners are dumb and I feel no sympathy for people suffering because "I won't need to have emergency wool blankets, I live in Texas", "I don't need a generator, papa government will fix it if electricity goes out", etc.. There was a Twitter user who set up a weather-resistant tent in her apartment to sleep in because OH MY GOD, MY HEATING IS OFF, IT'S ALMOST 40 DEGREES IN HERE, OMG.What is with all the mocking of people suffering from a natural disaster in this thread?
I don't think you can lump all southerners in with Texans. FloridaMan woudn't by crying about the cold. He would lite the swamp on fire for warmth and then get hammer drunk and go do donuts in the snow with his car. Shirtless.Because southerners are dumb and I feel no sympathy for people suffering because "I won't need to have emergency wool blankets, I live in Texas", "I don't need a generator, papa government will fix it if electricity goes out", etc.. The Inuit survived for thousands of years in constantly sub-freezing temperatures with houses made out of ice, and then white bitches from Los Angeles think their lives are ending because they can't charge they smartphones. Of course I'm going to mock the suffering of people who think sleeping in 40 degree weather is going to kill them.
Doesn't Texas have more wind turbines and solar plants installed and operational than any other state in the US? And its own more modern, better maintained power grid (separate from the national one)? Clearly it broke down in this situation, but I was under the impression the Texas power grid was considered pretty reliable until now.
Got a gas generator and a battery power pack. Its important to have in the cornfield because sometimes shit happens like ice on a power line or wind storm downs a bunch of trees. A propaine grill as well a cast iron stove in the garage just in case. Fire wood is dam near free somebody's got acreage and theres wood that piles up over time. Just basic shit realy. I didnt peeps in texas were so under preparedHaving a generator means a degree of self sufficiency the same as having earthquake supplies or a HAM radio (if you are that austistic).
These are not the types of traits you see in the "We live in a society" people. I am guess they have minimal food in their cupboards and usually DoorDash or use a mealkit service. Most do not know if their power is out their gas range will not work.
Instead of learning about HAM radio or even having a few CBs / walkie talkies they rely on cell phone which will run out of generator power in 24 hours.
Basically, a lot of these people have the belief that it's the governments responsibility to solve problems not knowing how incompetent the government is.
The computer gods are punishing him. Repent, retro computer murderer!
Welcome to Kiwifarms. May I take your order? What is with all the mocking of people suffering from a natural disaster in this thread?
He has my sympathy, but he is in a predicament of his own making. He makes about $110K a year and should be able to afford an inverter generator in addition to a battery storage plus the installation of a generator transfer switch. Even with a 4000 watt generator he could at least power the fridge, the stove, a few key lights, the modem/ wifi, and an alarm system.
