Because southerners are dumb and I feel no sympathy for people suffering because "I won't need to have emergency wool blankets, I live in Texas", "I don't need a generator, papa government will fix it if electricity goes out", etc.. There was a Twitter user who set up a weather-resistant tent in her apartment to sleep in because OH MY GOD, MY HEATING IS OFF, IT'S ALMOST 40 DEGREES IN HERE, OMG.

The Inuit survived for thousands of years in constantly sub-freezing temperatures with houses made out of ice, and then white bitches from Los Angeles think their lives are ending because they can't charge they smartphones. Of course I'm going to mock the suffering of people who think sleeping in 40 degree weather is going to kill them.
You are retarded. That is all.

Nigger, these people never saw this shit coming for their entire lives. Imagine spending 20 years in a place and the weather completely changes from the entire status quo. You dont have ice tires on your truck, a backup furnace or a giant shovel when you live there your whole life if you've only seen enough snow for frosty on a tv.

No they had their chances but did nothing, 10 years ago there was a big snow storm that hit part of Texas people died, and massive amounts of damage occurred, and nothing was done to mitigate future storms. This storm will teach them nothing and in a few years, maybe a decade another will hit and we'll have another laugh looking at these morons freeze to death on their couches, gas themselves, and cry on the news because they can't charge their phones.

An errant snowstorm hitting the panhandle and perhaps down to Austin should hardly be enough to alert the people of Dallas and Houston of all places and you know it. We are talking about a state the size of france renowned as desert, swamp and humid subtropical grasslands. The same precautions not being taken there as in New England or the upper midwest is an understandable predicament not some unforgivable sin against common sense.

Texas should have had interstate compacts to call on with an emergency budget fund to pay for them. That is what Virginia does anyway. We occasionally get some wild weather. The odd hurricane, the odd blizzard, the odd state wide fucking ice storm. We have assets for our usual shit, and if things really go to shit we have an emergency fund to pay neighboring states to send things like trucks and so on. If at the end of the year the fund doesn't get used well then hurray. Its carried over into the next year.

This year I got to watch electrical repair vehicles with Indiana tags trim away the downed tree that knocked out power to my house (for 6 hours) while a truck with North Carolina tags sprayed salt on the highway while I was going to work. My tax dollars actually at work for once.

So much texas rage at how Arkansas plowed their side of the road. Just under scores how nobody in Austin thought to maybe set aside some money to pay Arkansas to plow the Texas side of the road. Or even better, a huge chunk of the highways connecting the two states. .

And some of this shit you probably won't think of unless you've actually had it happen to you. Like pipes freezing and bursting is not something you should expect people to be worried about unless they've actually had it happen to them before. It's just that far outside the normal operating parameters of living these days. Particularly if you live some place where it seldom gets cold enough for pipes to freeze.

Every single Minnesotan and New Englander calling these people stupid better be set up, retrofitted, and read up on the most recent protocols for earthquake survival. Oh you aren't prepared for a 7.8 earthquake and following tsunami because you live in Duluth? Well when that freak event occurs on the Great Lakes Tectonic Zone and Superior brings Gordon Lightfoot's storied shipwreck into your living room at 4 am, it's YOUR FAULT if you get soggy feet and feel a bit discombobulated.

VA is probably one of the most well run states in the country. My stepmother had nothing but bad things to say about everywhere else she had been in the 2010s but even she had to admit VA was a well oiled machine.

OK I retract my hate for 8bitguy. At least he had a few weeks of food and water stocked up and can feed his family. Thats most important.
The rest hopefully he learns from and adapts. Empty gas tanks and no charge on you chevy volts? He just lucked out his kid had happened to have gas in hers.

It doesn't matter if you live in Dallas or Duluth. Having food and water in the house is just basic common sense. DoorDash wont be working if shtf. And any sort of happening happens the gas pumps get mobbed or go down. Think of the "1/2" mark as "EMPTY" and top off when you get down to half.

As the west circles the drain breakdowns in the "system" will become more and more common.
