Admittedly, I don't really think you should call yourself a gypsy if you aren't actually one. It doesn't mean you're a free-spirited traveler. It means something more than that.

(So what do we get to call gypsy jazz, for example?)

Hypothetical -

We have a man and woman already enrolled in college, majoring in something of value, who attend a party, becomes inebriated, hook up, and she gets pregnant. Sure, we both agree better decision making would have prevented the situation, keeping her legs shut, his dick in his pants, and the rest. If you want, we can have a separate discussion on the gross and egregiously ineffective sex education being pushed by both the religious right and the pomo left, but that's not germane to what I think is at the "least-bad solution."

If either of those involved are there because they earned a scholarship, and aren't from a well-off family, they're fucked if they don't have an abortion. The gov't is going to be on the hook for them, that kid, and several generations down the line worth of economic subsidy. If not entirely subsidized, maybe the same sort of sliding scale you already see for a lot of subsidized healthcare anyways; I'm not suggesting that say, the Obama girls for example, would get access to this sort of help, their parents have the money and clout to make it happen, but the majority of college students won't.

On the other hand, there's a lot of economic value lost to 18-24 year olds experiencing contraceptive failure and being forced out of college, and I'd rather pay $500 each (or whatever the number is), right now, for abortions that get them through their degree and into the job market, rather than millions upon millions of subsidization costs for themselves, their eventually single-parents-in-their-own-right-offspring, that are at greater risk for a huge list of negative outcomes, and the ensuing generations resultant from that single event.

SNAP, Section 8, Title 19, etc. all cost a lot more than even 10,000 abortions a year. They cost is orders of magnitude greater, once you start looking down the line at the resultant generations of under-educated, low-skill-employed, substancing abusing, criminal, domestically violent, single-parent babies that are going to be shit out onto the dole rolls, as a result of not subsidizing the 1 abortion. I'm not suggesting that every ditzy bitch and Heisman-candidate sportsball player be given carte-blanche, subsidized, access to abortion, nor that we give access to the children of the Lori Loughlin's of the world, but I think we'd be doing the economy and society at large a favour by not condemning some of the lower-middle-class kids (that mostly got there through legitimate hard work, their own and their parents) to eternal wage slavery due to a drop out forced by pregnancy.
Ah, I see where you are coming from, you're coming at it from just an economic angle. In that context what you are saying makes perfect sense.

I'm a fan of minimal gov't involvement, and when it's absolutely necessary, it needs to be very specific, very controlled, protected from abuse, and must demonstrably have substantial benefits to society. I believe this case fits that mold, with appropriate framing.

I was recently rewatching the classic Futurama episode "Bend Her" and it got me thinking about how that episode has not been pulled from reruns or streaming over "transphobia" as it so perfectly depicts the controversy over MTF athletes competing in women's sports and Bender acting like a typical 2010's troon a full decade and a half before those issues were even a thing.

The only way that episode could have gotten more prophetic is if Bender acted like an AGP lesbian fetishist instead of trying to swindle Calculon out of his money.

Because comparing animal species to troons makes perfect sense. Suppose I'd know that if I'd learned more than the "8th grade biology" they're always screeching about:

All the way down...
Troons and house pets are a lot alike but very different.

They both get their genitals removed but only one requests that.

Evidently things have changed since the spinoff showed a lesbian couple (without even mentioning it outright) and got its funding pulled as a result.

But in any case, I do commend the producers for not making a big deal out of it. If they'd been talking about it before it happened and trying to make it a big thing, they'd be worthy of criticism, but they've kept it on the down low.

A cartoon presenting gay characters as no big deal and treating it like it's normal is to be commended in a world where people make big deals out of representation that turns out to be the bare minimum.

It's not going to happen, although RBG did write an opinion that Roe V. Wade went too far, too fast, and likely set the stage for the last 40 years of hand-wringing and legal battles. - https://www.bustle.com/p/ruth-bader-ginsburgs-roe-v-wade-opinion-might-surprise-you-seriously-9695841
It's inevitable Roe V Wade gets re-litigated before the Supreme Court; the question though has always been when it will happen and whether or not the conservatives will have the balls (especially now that they've reclaimed a majority) to go through with nuking abortion rights.

It's still unclear on a lot of ways if the current conservative majority has the will to do what would be an insanely unpolarizing move. Roberts in particular given the PR nightmare he suffered dismantling the Voting Rights Act and the Citizens United decision.

It's one of the reasons why conservatives have settled for going after states individually to get rid of abortion on the state level, one piece at a time instead of pinning everything on one big case. Less blowback that way and there is an element of wack-a-mole where if the left overturn anti-abortion laws in one state, two more pop up with similar laws.

If Venezuela economic status is so great, why is it that the people living there are rioting in the streets?
The lunatic left have pushed the narrative that ANYONE protesting against the asshole in charge of Communist Venezuela is the minority, and basically members of the wealthy elite at that. And that 99% of the country "LOVE" their commie dictator overlord and that it's only a bunch of corrupt rich bastards unhappy that they are being taxed and taxed HARD so poor people can live the sweet life that they were "denied" before Chavez came along

Except it isn't real socialism/communism, and even if it were anybody against socialism/communism must be one of the rich people that had their property confiscated.

Disregard the fact that everybody except Maduro and his chosen ones are starving, it was a shining example of socialism, and Bernie Sanders continues to revere them to this day, even saying they're an example of the American Dream.
