As a niggard myself - I've got even more incentive to not only find this guy unfunny as all hell - but to hate him outright even more! Splinters may not be scary now to us ADULTS, but as kids the fear of possibly never being able to get it out is real.

Enter's fit wasn't even about the splinter itself. It was about the over-the-top pain and swelling and bullshit, which he considered graphic. It did get to a point where people may have been uncomfortable watching it, but it wasn't nearly as gross as he makes it out to be. It's gross in concept, but if you're a kid and you're just watching it you're not going to be very phased. And if you're the kind of kid who would get upset, you would also be the kind of kid to quickly turn off the TV.
He treated it on the same level of disturbance as something he finds morally reprehensible. The way he talks about the episode is just laughable.

Exactly, which is even worse than a plain splinter. Splinters aren't the worst thing that will happen, not even close, but it was portrayed in the episode almost too realistically.
You shouldn't have to turn off the TV/change the channel though

For as long as I can remember, shows and toys marketed toward boys have primarily been gross stuff. Stereotypes are stereotypes, but the fact that it's persisted means that the market of gross stuff for kids exists.
