After checking out SS, not to deny @Jaimas' account, but here's how the SASS members see things.
According to SS, Lowtax never gave a damn about the SJWs "pozzing up the place", as they call it. So long as they gave him money, he was content to fuck around in an ambien and boxed wine coma. He also never gave a shit about the pedophiles until he had no choice but to deal with it.
His mods and admins are basically a self defeating horde of losers who essentially run the place like feudal lords with their own semi-autonomous fiefdoms, and so long as Lowtax gets money, he lets them do what they want.
The mod purges were a result of outside pressure, no internal effort was ever made that had any impact until outside parties like SS goaded them into it.
Examples:
Loosechanj: A creepy asshole who treated female goons like pieces of meat (rating their hotness in a screencap known as Looschanj.txt), and it wasn't until Lowtax got hassled about the creeper did he finally demod the guy, he otherwise went unpunished for years.
Aatrek: A simple Google search of his real name would have revealed his past. The "Mods Knew' meme from that incident was based on the assumption they had to have done so at least once during the five years he was a mod, otherwise that means SA is run by total dumbasses who don't do background checks.
Call Me Abey: A complete douche (one time buddies with Aatrek) who basically was an unfunny prick and SJW white knight. Finally got demodded when he made comments about the penis of a teenager on Twitter (who called a bunch of SJW feminists on their shit) and he got a lot of on and offsite shit for it no one could ignore, him included.
There are more examples, check their doxxes, but the common denominator is that SA did fuck all about these idiots until they had no choice, according to SS.
SASS obviously has axes to grind, so take the above with a grain of salt, but from where I'm sitting, it does have more than a few grains of truth.

This actually falls into what I was suspecting myself.
Between the above, McCaine, and so on, it's very clear that this happened because the people who by all accounts should have done something didn't, and that whilst many of the Goons may want to keep these assholes out, it's just not going to happen with what we know about this. Lowtax doing nothing as long as the cash flowed and allowing the mods to openly abuse power essentially enabled the ultimate hugbox.
Not that the Goons can understand that. They still think that things are more-or-less on the level. Were that they could know what we knew without it being confirmation biased away.
Disclaimer: I've had an active account since 2004. I remember when it was all good times, man, good times...I think the day SA's fate was sealed was the day Helldump2K died. I posted almost exclusively in there and in FYAD, in the end. I haven't logged in since...at least 2010, I think.

Goons are pretty funny to me because they think they invented pretty much anything that's popular. I think I've said it before, but part of the reason they hate LPers so much, at least the extreme SA supporters do, is because they don't think anyone else but Goons should do them.
Also, there are other Goon sites like The Round Stable and I could swear there were a few other ones. They all have the similar attitudes of superiority and sneering at others though.

Yeah, I think they did that. And like I said, one of the funniest parts about the SA LP community is how bad Retsupurae has gotten. The fans basically killed it.

That's an exaggeration. On Twitter, Chip mentioned regretting some lame jokes he made in his riffs from like 08 - 09 (which seems natural) and that he was considering adding NSFW or content warnings in the titles/descriptions. AFAIK, he hasn't even done that.
Actual censorship would require that he re-edit and re-upload potentially dozens of old videos and it's seriously unlikely he'll do that. He's dutifully provided NSFW tags for his current LP (some nudity) but that's it.
The more vocal of Chip's fans lean toward the censorious side, though. That current LP is Watch_Dogs and the more popular comments are shock and outrage with Ubisoft's crappy writing rather than laughing at it. I would also say that VoidBurger isn't the best influence in that respect.

I would say it's an overreaction to call Chip an SJW. He's always been sort of a happy, flippant character, but I think age, witnessing Gamergate and now having a full-time job made him especially conscious about his online image. He studiously avoided discussion of GG except to indirectly support VoidBurger or Ironicus, who was entangled in a similar kind of scandal involving D&D 5E and is pretty big on social justice in tabletop roleplaying.
VoidBurger is an SA LPer who's been around for quite a long time. Her claim to fame is LPing Silent Hill games and she's one of Chip's closest friends. She was neck deep in Gamergate from day one - her Twitter was consumed by non-stop warfare for like six months and she privated her account at least once to hide when she got sick of it. Her outspokenness made her a big target for trolling, such as her Adsense being clickbotted to get it banned.
She is loud about free speech or other controversial topics in gaming in her or Chip's streams and even w/o knowing the working details of her politics it's safe to say she's a pretty hardened SJW; the way she's discussed her online history also made me think she's been familiar with social justice causes for a long time. I never liked her.
I think Chip is just a private, non-confrontational personality surrounded by SJWs but who is hesitant to attach himself fully to those causes, and I think he won't let it interfere with his future content.
If at all possible, try to get actual content for this thread guys, old goons may find all this reminiscing funny, but new people won't really get the jokes. You can keep doing it, just would like some content too.
