Alright Sonichu fans, I'd like to get a discussion going about the 2006 "Sonic the Hedgehog" title for PS3. Most are aware that the game is a hot mess that really hurt Sonic, making the Sonic Boom reboot necessary. There's not a lot of mentions of this game by CWC over the years, but having been around for nearly a decade, the lasting influence of that game is evident all over Sonichu. There's a handful of ideas from that game that are present in the Sonichu world, leading me to think that Sonic '06 was a big inspiration for Chris, things like:

- Sonic interacts with many normal humans in mundane situations
- Sonic is involved in romance
- Sonic is not unique or special and has many superpowered animal friends
- Existence threatening villains with vague intentions
- Strange juxtaposition of mature themes and early childhood character design aesthetic

The current state of Chris has a lot to do with Sonic '06 since it has the most influence on his stories and its commercial failure is the reason for the "blarms" redesign. Chris has never criticized the game or how it hurt Sonic's reputation, meaning he never thought it was less than amazing.

I've never played the game but I have been amused by its well documented awfulness for years. Has anyone played it? Are there more references to Sonic '06 in the comics I'm not aware of?

I think this is better suited for the Sonichu section.
I own Sonic 06 for 360 because I like to collect awful games. Gonna pick up Sonic Boom if I ever find it cheap.
But to answer the important question, Chris of course has played it. I think Silver has influenced Magi-Chan a bit - while Magi-Chan was actually created long before Sonic 06 together with the rest of the Chaotic Combo, Chris has given him some Silver abilities in the later issues post 2006.
As for him enjoying it, he certainly has. He doesn't notice how shit these games are. There's a reason he's hung up on blue arms and not Sonic Boom being, y'know, fucking shit.

Sonichu is more influenced by Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 than it is by Sonic 06. This is particularly seen in Issue 0 where the story starts off with the final boss of SA1, Perfect Chaos. By the time 06 came around, Sonichu and the chaotic combo, as well as the comic's basic premise were already kind of established, I think.

I suppose Sonic 06 might've influenced some things later, but there's no strong evidence for it.

I guess it's just the 3D Sonic games in general, huh? It's weird to me how convoluted Sonic became and Chris really digs all of those overly complex melodramatic "story" elements of the series. Originally Sonic's story was very simple and gameplay was what you were mainly getting in the 2D games. Later on the gameplay suffered and cut scenes had the most polish out of anything in the game.

I personally think Chris was inspired more by Picasso

So much of Sonichu is about Chris that it's difficult to find anything that's stolen or lifted from the Sonic games, but enjoying a Sonichu story requires a base knowledge of the Sonic and Pikachu characters. Chris' character is way more inspired by the 3D Sonic games than the classic Genesis games.

Sonic'06 was probably what Chris was playing when he was making some of the later Sonichu comics, at least it looks that way to me.

Most of those (except maybe the fourth one) were present in one form or another as far back as the Sonic SatAM series in the mid-90s. And really, they're not really that uncommon themes for most types of fiction. It's just that SatAM is the result of people who actually have some vague idea how to write, and Sonichu is the result of... well, Chris.

But don't forget that Sonichu is half Pikachu, this could have easily been inspired by Pokemon.

- Existence threatening villains with vague intentions

Or alternatively this is Chris borrowing from one of the many movies/series/comics/games aimed at children that he himself has been continuously enjoying since he was a kid.

- Strange juxtaposition of mature themes and early childhood character design aesthetic

As other people in this thread already said, this is common among creepy adult fans of children's shows. Are Bronies influenced by Sonic '06 too?
