I'm okay with this. The first movie was a pleasant surprise, and if Jim Carrey's sticking around as Eggman then at the very least this might be worth a watch.
Hope it's set more on whatever planet Sonic. Oil Ocean and Mystic Cave zones please.

Them using the Emerald Hill theme is a nice touch.
As long as they don't put too much focus on the human couple and their boring personal problems and leave out that Stone guy, there's not much they could fuck up unless Tails talks about genders or they reveal that this movie is the start of some corny video game cinematic universe. Although I wouldn't mind movies based on other Sega properties like Jet Set Radio or Nights as independents.
The first movie was fine, I rented it more because they listened to the fans and fixed that awful character design before releasing the movie.

DP kind of concluded its story at the end of the movie. Unless they're gonna turn Ryan Reynolds back into Pikachu I don't know where they could go with that franchise. Maybe something more traditional set in the same universe could work.
14 months seems like a rather fast turnaround considering they haven't even started production yet.
There was an article I read yesterday saying that Jason Mamoa is still considering whether or not to sign on as Knuckles yet. Now, voice acting might be the fastest part to do in post I guess, but this still seems rather fast. Insert Sonic joke about speed.

Hollywood made (ugh) Yakuza movie on the way. One time I'll get pissed off if they don't cast Japanese people (unless it's Keanu as Kiryu).

They've already got the designs in place and CGI can work at its own pace, so that probably takes a big load off. Especially if they're leaning harder into the Sonic side of...well, Sonic.
Yakuza movie is my fear, but at least they might just ruin Kiryu instead of best protag Ichiban.

I don't think they can capture the true spirit of Yakuza the way only a game can with a modern movie. Especially if they try to play it 100% straight. The 2007 one for me worked though, but mostly because it was made in Japan.
I'm actually shocked they actually got animators on board for a sequel given how the first movie's animation studio shut down due to behind the scenes bullshit.

I'm okay with this. They set it up for a sequel anyway given the ending, but now my only wonder is what they're going to do to still make it accessible to normies. The movie managed to be a movie for fans by fans while still understanding casuals were going to be in the audience so they didn't go overboard with it. The Sonic universe is rather out-there, though, so if they're not careful, they're going to lose people (and money) but they could piss off fans for getting their hopes up too much, too.
Metal Sonic may work as a second villain for the sequel without it getting too bonkers. I suppose we'll see what they have planned.
So who's the VFX studio for this film? Moving Picture Company closed down, sadly.
