Oh Jesus. I like venom, but the writing is easily the worst part of that movie. Why not just get the original author to write the movie?

Writing a screenplay is vastly different from writing a book/comic book/manga. At most, the original author of a work being adapted should be kept on as a creative consultant to approve changes they may want to make (though I highly doubt it’ll happen in this case).

Well to be fair here Sony and other companies have hinted to be making other movies like Mario and stuff for years.

It could just be another announcement for a project that never follows through which I doubt it will considering the premise and the subject matter would require to have an expensive blad celebrity to play the part to attract customers and to be able to market to china.

Honestly? I'd be fine as long as it's not live-action and they get someone who'd be skilled at doing a gag-character like OPM's protagonist. If anything, a movie wouldn't suffer from what the manga and webcomic did in that they ended up trying too hard to give a one-note joke a deeper plotline.

There are two possibilities:
* They make a straight adaption. It might be interesting visually but will be very cringy for non anime fans and will get stuck in development hell.
* They make an Americanised version and it will miss the entire point of the manga. Like casting Saitama as some mega muscly dude (The Rock near certainly) and acting like the only bad thing is that he's bald (and not that he is very unimpressive looking) or making the hero association marvel heroes ripoffs that are assholes rather than a varied group of people with different outlooks and coming from different genres.

There's also making Saitama an underdog who would never kill enemies with one punch till the end or enjoy being a superhero instead of being bored

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was able to set a tone that expertly balanced comedy, a wimpy bitch of a protagonist, a larger-than-life world and action set-pieces. I think that tone would work for One Piece Man.

However, I don't think there's a director alive who can do for One Piece Man what Edgar Wright did for Scott Pilgrim.

Get Michael Cera to play Saitama and I'll pay money to watch this. Barring that - some other milquetoast dude and fill him up on horse tranquilizers so he talks in as monotone a voice as possible.

In any 'serious' scene Saitama is ripped to shit. He's leaner and not a brick shithouse like the Rock, but dude's shredded.

Here's the thing:
One Punch Man is a joke that's not funny anymore.
The webcomic was perfect for it because it was just a series of short skits.
Turning it into an actual story was a mistake.

I'm probably in the minority on this but the anime didn't make me want to see more.
The joke was told and the "big super serious story" going on in the background wasn't interesting.
It was well made but so what?
Not everything needs to be a long running franchise, things can end.

Knowing Sony, instead of just making a joke and leaving it, they'll try to set up a whole universe and it will all collapse in on itself.

It kinda shifts according to what's funnier but Saitama most of the time seems very bland and definitely not a looker. Hollywood won't let that be, especially as its angling for women to see superhero films. They'll probably take either Ryan Reynolds and shave his head or The Rock.
