Can't play the game if I remember right.
so purchases are tied to console? what happens when your console breaks or you sell it? I get you don't want everyone be playing on the same profile for one single purchase, but how can several people log into the same profile in 2021 in the first place?

Oh, I thought you meant playing the friend's game with your profile. As far as I remember the physical disk could not be played by any other profile than it was registered... digital too, but like the issue was you couldn't lend your game to a friend. It led to Sony completely shredding Microsoft with this commercial. I do not remember it being tied to console, but I do remember the console effectively being bricked if it can't check in on the server.

If you gave access to a friend, you could not play that game until it was either rescinded or they stopped playing it. It's a bit of a blur. I think there was also a total share limit, but again it's a blur as I tuned out the Xbox One at that point. Ironically, I actually like what they're doing with Series X and cross platform - Xbox and PC - library and play. That's pretty bitchin'.

Sony has slid so far downhill its not even funny. The ps2 was godlike and the ps3 had a jaw dropping first party lineup later in its life. The PS4 was a total waste of time, with only a handful of good games, a bunch of "cinematic" garbage, and sub par sequels.

I still remember seeing infamous and bladestrom the hundred years war for the first time, in 720p, and being blown away. The ps4 had no such experience for me. I still get blown away occasionally, like with project wingman, and how a single man with a fraction the time and budget managed to make a game that feels bigger then it's mainstream competitor, ace combat 7. Or games like DOOM 2016, or wolfenstein the new order, for being just plain fun action games.

Nothing sony has put out has elicited that reaction. And with their censorship policies and hikes on game prices I cant see ever owning another console from them. The PS4 was an utter disappointment, hell it even fucking sucks as a blu ray player, why on earth is this thing so loud and hot while playing Blu Rays? The super slim PS3 is silent by comparison, and is what I still use as a result.

Something I don't understand about the DualShock 3: why are the triggers "angled" and sticking outward?

Place it down on a table, you're bound to press at least one of them.

"Games as a service" is an inevitable consequence of rising development costs. If the price of a single game sold stays pretty much the same throughout the decades, companies had to look for other ways to keep afloat. This does not excuse EA but it's hardly pure greed in definition.
Wokeism and mob-virtue pandering has no place in this world, that I agree
Isn't that a load of bullshit publishers say and if anything is tied to laughable marketing budgets ( literally the reason why some games have the MOST EXPENSIVE GAME OF ALL TIME tags on them ) and Gaymers lust for graphics

The dualshock 3 triggers are analog triggers, whereas the triggers on PS1/PS2 are simple on off buttons. The DS3 is pressure sensitive.

They didnt feel nearly as good though, and few games took advantage of this feature. Total waste of time. The DS3 is still my favorite sony pad though, the DS4 felt wrong.

Yup. Big publishers are making record profits despite "muh costs". Digital distribution costs a mere fraction of digital distribution and selling 3-4 million copies now is merely expected rather then being a massive success.

"muh costs" is a BS line to get gamers to pay rental costs for games forever so the dev doesnt have to compete with their past success.

Tested this out. It's actually not that easy to accidentally press the shoulders buttons when sliding it around on a table. Very easy to do when pressing down on the sliding controller.

The rounded tips of the triggers kind of add some protection. Until you press down, of course.

Sony used to be great in the Ps3-psvita era but now they suck. And most of the studios that made games for them like japan studio (Ape escape) and liverpool (wipeout) are gone. What went so wrong?
I'm pissed about Ape Escape, that much should be obvious. But their HQ being moved to California from Tokyo is the most telling thing. They're done with good games. AstroBot was the last cool thing they did.

Kinda pissed rn. Trying to download NieR Automata on my PS5, but it refuses to install. I have a physical Yohra edition, but it just does not work. Cannot tell if it is the game or Sony being shoty.

I like to offer examples, lest people fall back into reddit theorycrafting. Here, I present you with approximately 11 minutes of credits rolling from Doom Eternal

When you compare the original Doom (1994) credits, barely a page or so of names, you start to realize that certain complexities in the development cycle have been introduced and that each one of those complexities carries within itself an added cost.

Sure, shitstains like EA and Ubisoft often decry afoul on the rising costs of development as they release their yearly iterations of their unfinished and barely tested garbage. I won't object to the wild west style of monetization we've all been subjected thanks to the chinks and mobile games. But inferring that costs "have not drastically increased" falls short of reason, again and again

Negative, wrong. And digital distribution was always going to be an excuse to widen the profit margin at the cost of each one of us losing physical copies. A savings that only some instances (Steam season sales for example) offer.
That "seasons pass" bullshit became a norm has its origins on MMOs of massive appeal, such as World of Warcraft (2004) wherein the whole industry found out that yes, it is possible to milk end users until the end of time. And again this was when blizzard looked and acted like a games company.

That doesn't change what I said that they moved Ghosts to fill a vacant spot. They had a blockbuster expected to release then, they needed something to release to offset the damage and lucked the fuck out with Ghosts selling like hotcakes. They didn't expect that, they had no idea it would. It was a new IP and corporations are very, very stubborn old dogs. Even if they get woke ticks infesting them they're still slow.

I have no ideological bent on this. I'm just sick of corporate cocksucking. Sony fucked up. There was no 4D Chess at play here. They didn't expect the leak and got caught on the toilet with their dick in their hands. You can't just magically shift shit like this, they likely knew they'd have to announce TBA long before they actually told us. Corporations are slow moving machines and they get slower the bigger they are. It's like watching paint dry.

To add to that, there have been a fuckton of horror stories coming from Naughty Dog about Druckmann that Sony blatantly ignored because they had faith in the franchise and the supposed genius behind the first game. Unaware that he needed a tard wrangler like Kojima and George Lucas did, only difference is that Druckmann has only ever produced mediocre shit and not the occasional glorious gem encrusted golden shit. So double whammy on Sony.
The "TBA" release was announced on April 2nd, 2020, right when corona restrictions got really serious. Naughtydog would have been in totally-not-crunch at that point and with whatever restrictions they were facing, real or to spite Trump, it would be foolish to set a firm date on the game until they know how they're going to work from there on out.

Just spitballing here but they need Q&A / playtesters. Sony wouldn't want to send a stoner home with a debug kit and Naughtydog wouldn't want that stoner to sit at home unsupervised with the game and watch Abby get railed while scrolling through 4chan on his phone.

A very sudden change to "work from home" at that point in development on such a huge project would be complicated in many ways. They would have to figure out a lot of things.

That's just my theory, I don't believe the game was ever cancelled or close to it.

season passes have nothing to do with MMOs, especially since back then you paid your monthly fee and then bought the expansion for full price, which was a nice profit on top of the subscription. they don't even remotely work the same. maybe you're talking about battle passes? but those hit big with fortnite.
it's basically a pre-order to for the whole dlc catalogue, and the whole "multiple season passes because a season is a year ;^)" started around borderlands 2, knowing that sleazebag pitchfork I wouldn't be surprised if BL2 was the game to make it common.

Don't forget that consoles are sold at a loss. It's up to the software and subscriptions to do the long term heavy lifting.
True. But in Japan, Playstation 5 game softwares have reached an incredibly low record in sales never seen before.

PS5 games in Japan.png

To put it in perspective, the PS4 actually had nearly the triple of games sold during its launch week alone than the PS5 itself did in the span of half of a year. The Switch also had better results on launch week alone too (not as good as the ps4's however) and that console was initially hit by stock shortages for a while. The situation of the PS5 over there might be better in the future, but I'm not betting a single buck on a recovery. Only a Sony exclusive Dragon Quest game would help at this point, but that franchise always operated on the popular systems in mind (VIII on PS2, IX on DS, X on Wii, etc. DQXI was a bit of an oddball with PS4+3DS at the same time)

I get that not everyone here is a weeb but it's rather impressive how much effort Sony went on destroying a profitable market for the twitter/resetera woke points

Alternatively, Sony is pulling the oldest trick off its book:

This is why I prefer my ps3 for blu rays
What's baffling is ds4 is the one that I have the most issues with on accidentally bumping the triggers, like I can't rest it on a coffee table to get a soda watching a movie without accidentally hitting fucking fast forward or skip
