Games Shouldn't Be Art

Personally I still can't bring myself to pull the trigger on something for that price.

I mean you're spending an extra 500 which could go towards 6 or more other games.
It's just crazy how people are willing to spend that much when there isn't even going to be a true killer app for at least 2 years.

Like I personally know people freaking the fuck out about not being able to find a PS5, and when I point out they are not missing out on anything they are just like "but I gotta have it!"

It's just pure vanity consumerism at this point and it's pathetic.

which you then pay off with $70 games, online subscription and limited hardware options.

but then most people would opt to pay 2000 bucks over five years than 1000 once, so much for rational actors...
The average person has always been like that - that’s why subscriptions are still on the rise. As long as the upfront cost are lower the long term spending is never considered.

But I will say this. Only obsessed consoomers are paying full price for everything with consoles. Thanks to physical retail and a secondhand market, the console space has always provided ways to save money to whomever it concerns.

CDkeys sells codes for 1-year PS+ subscription all the time for ~$30. Sony themselves sells PS+ at a discount too. Only the uneducated are paying $60/year lol.

I don't want to hate Sony, but they don't want to give me FF7R and Bloodborne on PC. If they would just nicely hand it over I'd even pay $70 each.
I gave up on waiting and just bought FF7R when it hit half price on a sale

and then played a few hours of it and got bored because it's not a very good game. I wouldn't have even come close to getting that far if I didn't already have strong nostalgia for FF7

Did you pay scalper prices for your gameless PS5 while also having a huge backlog, or just 500 dollars?

Legit curious.
I got it online from walmart. I kept up with restocks and got lucky.

I would NEVER pay for scalpers. Nothing is worth that. I can build a pretty decent gaming PC for those prices(defeats the purpose).

I mean I wouldn't say its gameless either. Demon Souls, Returnal, Spiderman. Then you got remasters of stuff like Nioh 2, and DMC 5.

Ratchet and Clank comes out this week.

Could it be better? I guess, but I don't remember a ton of stuff in the first year of ps4 either.

But is the PS5(or X series) a must have at this point? No.

There was a major power gap between the PS1 and PS2 and a big gap between the PS2 and PS3 though

The only thing I can see going wrong is that the PS5 version won't have load times and will have improved lighting and ray tracing which means the PS4 version may have you sitting a few minutes to load shit. Many early PS3 games had 4 minute loading times, so it's not unheard of.
No loading screens but you'll still have to wade through boring as fuck climbing sections, slow walking and talking sections, and other boring methods of masking load times. Don't know why anyone is even hyped for nu-GoW2 anyways since Anthony Burch is a writer on it.

It is basically suicide for a developer to come out with a ps5 exclusive. No install base, fucking competition from PC and nintendo, the threat of competition from future xbox live service. And then there's the development fee sony is asking upfront, which I know nothing about yet.

The install base is around 7-8 million. That's well above what the PS3 had at the same point and time in it's release, it's also more than what the new Xbox has.

the Miles Moralas Spiderman game also surpassed TLOU2 in games sold so you have stuff that's hit above 4 million copies. Eventually it's going to switch over fully within the next year, but the PS3 was still getting releases 3 years into PS4's life cycle. They tend to not stop things cold turkey.

People don't play games for the writing

Situation at the time of ps3's release is totally different. 360 looked poised to plow sony away for good (until the hardware failure epidemic began), Also install base =| units sold.

Something like 95% of the scalped PS5's have been activated at this point.

Xbox is going in a direction where everything becomes a service because that's what Microsoft as a whole wants, Sony is going in the direction of growing IPs and cross promotion. So the playstation will be more heavily advertised out of the three. The same hardware shortages are effecting everything as a whole it's nothing exclusive to sony. Sharing stuff between the PS4 and PS5 will still get people to buy a playstation in some form. The PS4 ports will definitely be stripped down so many would probably opt for the PS5 version if they wanted the full experience. More than likely that's what they're going to push over the PS4 versions.

More likely than not, that would create an outrage. Stripping down ps4 versions to push for ps5 will have an opposite effect and I can guarantee even an ass-backwards company such as sony will have reasonable minds in place to discourage such tactic.
