More likely than not, that would create an outrage. Stripping down ps4 versions to push for ps5 will have an opposite effect and I can guarantee even an ass-backwards company such as sony will have reasonable minds in place to discourage such tactic.
By Stripping down I meant by removing lighting and reflection effects, less ground clutter, stuff like that, it will look less visually impressive but it will function the same.

The PS5 version will be pushed as the definitive one to get because they'll hype up the visual enhancements.

It's basically self propelled blast processing.

Why have a PS5 if you have a PS4?

Why have a PS5 if you have a PS4?

Basically because you stream, are a fanboy or are susceptible to vanity consumerism. (same goes for Xbox Series X right now)

Or I guess really *really* needed to play a Demon Souls remake :/

To be fair, the gold coin trick in the DES remake is pretty insane and is probably the most broken exploit in the entire series even counting the Dark Souls dragon head soul exploit..

I mean within a single hit you can deduct the enemy's HP by a few billion.

Don't know why anyone is even hyped for nu-GoW2 anyways since Anthony Burch is a writer on it.
How the fuck does this guy keep getting work? Fuck this industry and its god awful Crony Nepotism.

But I will say this. Only obsessed consoomers are paying full price for everything with consoles. Thanks to physical retail and a secondhand market, the console space has always provided ways to save money to whomever it concerns.
you'll not get a new release used (because demand) and even if its traded in/sold the price will still be higher. ofc down the line it becomes cheaper, but is still nothing compared to the amount you save on pc at launch (up to 50%) and over time due to storefront competition.
besides, if saving a few bucks via physical would be important for the majority, drive-less consoles would never be a thing. most people don't care about 10-15 bucks if they can just press a button and wait for the download to finish and not have to deal with the inconvenience of physical, let alone used. that number adds up.

and that's if the game even has a physical release at all, with sony/microsoft/nintendo being the only store in town.

CDkeys sells codes for 1-year PS+ subscription all the time for ~$30. Sony themselves sells PS+ at a discount too. Only the uneducated are paying $60/year lol.
it doesn't matter how much you pay, but that you pay at all.

Maybe if you're a fucking retard that goes to Gamestop/Used stores instead of Marketplace/Craigslist/Ebay.

I'm still all for PC over consoles though. The console market is directly geared towards retards these days so it makes sense the majority wouldn't think to go outside Gamestop for used games.

I don't think PC or console can make a claim on having a monopoly on retardation

None of this challenges the argument of the console space having ways to save money. Secondhand markets allow you to recycle previous investments and put that money towards new products. There’s a handful of games I remember getting at launch without paying additional costs out of pocket. For me it’s not a contest between console and PC either. How much money you can save is ultimately on the individual.

But people who chase new releases do not care about saving money. 3 year old Xbox games like Forza Horizon 4 become top sellers on Steam at $60. The majority of Cyberpunk preorders were from PC.

Gaming is just an aesthetic to those people. There isn’t a single game that requires all of those displays and other hardware.

I'm going to be honest, I can't even notice most graphical differences in PC games from high to ultra (and sometimes even medium to high) these days unless I specifically stop playing to pay attention to it.

These people who spend like 2k on gaming rigs and then all the damn monitors and LED lights in their room and shit baffle me. It feels like something you'd do as a child, which I guess means it's a streamer thing?

sure, you can find some sucker selling it below value, but that's not the norm. everybody wants those new releases at launch, which means high demand and low supply (and the people aware of that keep the prices high because they know they can sell for like 5 bucks off + shipping), that's all.

I'm not saying you can't save money on consoles, but that's exactly the same for PC, so the point is moot. outside of that console prices are higher on average simply due to less competition, and physical has to deal with inconvenience, and that's with all the fees on top.

of course it comes down to the individual, but the discussion is usually a "$500 console vs $5000 pc" generalization, never even considering the individual expectations and needs. some people don't don't need or want a pc, which is fair enough, but those people would still pay less with a pc in the long run even if they don't care about it.

What? If this was the case, Gamestop wouldn't being a dying company.

Not really when you factor in that the majority of console gamers do not buy used at all anymore and go digital, probably out of convenience. The fact that they don't look outside Gamestop might be a contributing factor to them going digital too, but I'd bet it has more to do with the consoomer urge to get something right at midnight and not that they are worried about price.

Even still, Gamestop dying had a lot of factors to it not just used game sales.
