I feel many younger kiwis missed the sopranos train. People love to fluff Breaking Bad, and that's cute, but it doesn't really touch the sopranos, in so many aspects (although I still love that show, not hating on it at all).

The characters, the violence, the boobies, so many of us loved them all.

Post about your love of the sopranos ITT.

"Let me tell ya something. Nowadays, everybody’s gotta go to shrinks, and counselors, and go on “Sally Jessy Raphael” and talk about their problems. What happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, silent type. That was an American. He wasn’t in touch with his feelings. He just did what he had to do. See, what they didn’t know was once they got Gary Cooper in touch with his feelings that they wouldn’t be able to shut him up! And then it’s dysfunction this, and dysfunction that, and dysfunction vaffancul!"

Even more relevant today than it was in the pilot episode 20 years ago.

I love the Sopranos however there is no denying there is noticeably drop in quality in the later seasons.
I think Breaking Bad is beloved more so because it has quite a specific start, middle and end to the story whereas the Sopranos does get a bit meandering.

Still love it though and will inevitably watch the prequel

The wire is way better. I tried to re-watch the sopranos after the wire, and it was not nearly as good.

I guess part of the allure of the wire is that it shows how a lot of things actually work, where most television writers are not aware of the reality of things & focus more on characters and storylines than portraying something real.

Also, Meadow and Anthony Jr were poorly acted (especially meadow, jesus). Everyone in the wire did a fucking fantastic job.

Have never seen an episode. Subject matter doesn't interest me and I don't particularly like grim realistic crime dramas.

Sopranos is realistic in some aspects, cartoonish in plenty of others.

Honestly, I wouldnt even describe sopranos as a crime drama. Maybe it's that on a surface level, to someone who hasn't watched it. I could see why they might think that. But honestly the sopranos is a very dark sitcom that focuses bigly on the american family as well as mental health. Tony, who is really just a classic "sitcom on acid" dad, just happens to be a mob boss.

Going to have to disagree just on the ending alone. Still, the show definitely had its moments early on and now and then.

Me and my dad are convinced it's the best black comedy out there.

I could go on and on about The Sopranos, such a great show. My favorite character is Uncle June, he's hilarious.

I saw a few scattered episodes when it was on the air, but never had a chance to get into it. I finally watched it all the way through a few months ago. It was ok, but not great.
