Speak unto me of Brazil. - Algum brasileiro nas fazendas?

So I want to get out of my cucktastic country for a little bit and could take a month, even two, for a holiday. I even kind of want a back-up country for if my own goes full dumb. I never really considered Brazil before but recently Bolsanaro said of Covid-19: "We must not be a nation of faggots" and I got to be honest, I was charmed on the spot.

Anyone on here from there? What are the people like in terms of culture? Is it going the same way much of the West is in terms of SJW-nonsense or are the people based? I know it's ground zero for the trans movement but I don't really care what someone does to themselves so long as they're happy and don't try to impose it on others. If I were to rent somewhere for a month what city or area would be best for meeting people but also a bit of pleasant scenery and places to visit?

I don't speak much Portuguese but am willing to learn. My work is semi-portable so I could live anywhere for a month or two whilst working without a problem. Brazil looks appealing and it's still admitting people from abroad whereas a lot of countries have locked down. Is everything shut in Brazil currently or is it mostly still open?

And yeah, I know there's an "international" section but thats for discussing international lolcows, I think.

Great game. One of the last AAA mobile games that was actually a game you could just buy and enjoy rather than an IAP storefront. (Yeah, it was a blatant GTA ripoff. So what?)

This game and the Olympics taught me everything I know about Brazil. (It's not much. But man, I really did love that game.)

@Overly Serious as a true and honest Brazilian perhaps could you help me as an outsider clear something up:

why are 90% of the Brazilian robbers dressed in cargo shorts, flip flops, and a motorcycle helmet? (According to liveleak)

How accurate are liveleak videos in representing daily life in Brazil?

I fear you have mistaken my post - I am not Brazillian and can offer little insight into the attire of the countries criminals. However, I understand that Brazil is a hot country so shorts and flip-flops may facilitate the criminal's endeavours.

Don't.

The reality is way worse. This place is literally hell on earth.
Is crime pretty bad in Brazil? And is that mainly the big cities or is it bad generally?

Lmao, it's funny you even had to ask.

Let me put it to you this way, in big cities it's close to South African levels of crime. Not because of racial tension but because of the huge amount of poverty and misery. Unless you have enough money to live with the white christians in your gated comunities you will not be very safe. Especially if you are white and foreign looking. If you are brownish and are not afraid of flip flops and shorts, and for crying out loud don't show you iphone or use any backpacks you may be okay. You don't want to get pestered for money every 5 minutes, hussled, pickpocketed or robbed at gunpoint.

Seriously, misery in Brazil is that bad and it's not particularly well hidden. Slum people flood most other districts for moeny. And unlike other countries in latin america, Brazilians pack much more heat. But hey, if you like the african way of life of dance, freedom, drinking and living life on the edge and are not afraid or disgusted by poverty, then you might be okay. There's a reason Brazilians are they way they are.

Honestly, you wouldn't like it here, it's very chaotic, and the guys in power are incredibly incompetent. Bolsonaro knows how to appeal to his supporters, but it's terrible at getting things done; so far, his most notable accomplishments is being a total fuck-up as a president and spending his time in perpetual campaign while trying to shield his sons from police investigations.

"We must not be a nation of faggots" is a funny thing coming from a man who constantly play victim when things don't go his way, or when gets some bad press after another fuck up.

Also, we have an entire state without electricity, Amapá, because of a failure in the private energy provider (the electric grid of the state is entirely private) 2 weeks ago, and he didn't say a word about it.

Thanks. I've never been to South Africa but I've travelled in North African countries so I'm not unused to being the foreign White guy and beset by beggars. Thieves are a bit more of a problem. But have you seen London, lately? I can dress locally but they're going to spot me as foreign no matter what I do. Anyway, it doesn't completely put me off but I get it.

I'll have enough money that I can rent somewhere in a nicer area. I wont be backpacking through hostels. Slums aren't pretty but they don't freak me out - I'm not expecting utopia. Just so long as I can go out to restaurants or walk in the country without being hassled too much it'll be fine. But if it's really so bad that's not going to happen I'll reconsider.

So a lot of guns on the street, then? You've reminded me of years ago when I watched the movie Heat with a girl who used to live in Sao Paulo. She laughed at the scene where there's a shoot-out outside the bank because the Americans in the background were just looking around. She said in Sao Paulo everybody would be on the ground at the first gun shot.

Well, Brazil is not hell on earth, but it's very noisey and hot. Brazil is not the place for peace and quiet. You can go to restaurants and walk the country and probably be fine as long as you don't act like a dumbass/get drunk off your mind/get high off your horses. But that's everywhere in a big city metropolitan city. May get the foreign hassle a bit, but with a bit of a tan and shoddy cloths it may be better. Especially if you avoid big tourist traps.

As for the finer details, don't expect most Brazilians to speak English in the general population. Hopefully you'll be lucky and you can, but don't expect fluency unless you meet really wealthy people or college graduates. The customer service is... meh. They are not rude, but they don't fake being polite to you and you may or may not like that. But generally speaking in a party sense, they are very wild and fun.

Still, what I'm saying is actually before the pandemic. Now with the economy shot to hell, I'd be a little more wary, but still, if you feel like it, go for it.

Brazil is a shit hole. Most of South America is a shit hole.
Most of America has become a sad shit hole. Sad times.

SJW bullshit is on the rise, but most people aren't taking it seriously. That could and possibly will change, though. We are known as extremely susceptible to propaganda, even the so-called thinking classes fall for that. And our media and academia are doing their darndest to implant that faggotry like neutral pronouns and tax-funded gender reassignment surgery.

Anyway, I'll give you some information and tips that may (or may not) be useful:

  • All the big cities are battlefields between criminal factions of all sorts. Don't expect it to get any better, because our politicians work closely with those types in order to guarantee their positions.
  • Stay the fuck away from Rio de Janeiro.
  • Lots of places in the mainland beat the big cities, such as Gramado, Campos do Jordão, Chapada Diamantina and Poconé.
  • Be VERY wary of were you go, if you plan on taking a trip by yourself. Lots of people are getting "accidentally executed" just for entering the wrong neighbourhood, wearing colors or trinkets related to rival gangs or not giving enough money and/or a shitty cellphone to a mugger.
  • Related to above, don't show off expensive stuff by any means. Keep a low profile at all times, and know how and when to pick people to ask for directions and other useful information.
  • Due to lots of fuckery in our economy throughout the years (thanks Dilma and Paulo Guedes), our currency is in the dumps. You could feast like a king if you bring about a month's worth of your work, but the exchange rates may be terrible.
  • And even then, if you go to obvious tourist traps, you may end up spending all of your money on shitty unnutritious meals and stupid baubles that will break easily.
  • Don't start flamewars IRL. You WILL lose.
  • If someone acts a bit too friendly to you, chances are it's a con artist trying to swindle you. And those people will know you are foreigner. Look for friendly, but less showy people to help you.
