I still love the two main GDQ's done each year, but the people involved generally keep getting worse and worse. Also, this constant stream of mini-GDQ's just seem bland and bad. "Frame Fatales" the fuck is that shit?
the CGDQ they had over the weekend was decent
but i have 0 interest in frame fatales

it's pretty much a given anytime something is FOR WOMEN it's going to be the lower tier women who don't want to 'compete' with or against men

On a sidenote, is Werster worthy of his own lolcow thread? He certainly has enough autistic rage to consider it.

I honestly love Werster. Despite the countless efforts by the speed-running space to force him out, he still maintains a high viewership no matter the game run. Since he has refused to update his emotes, they are some of the few that break the size limitations. Plus the current way of naming Twitch emotes forces you to have some letters included from your username handle.

Watching a speedrun is only fun when the person doing it is knowledgeable or entertaining, and the GDQ organizers have been systematically weeding out anyone in either category for the last 4-5 years to make it a 'safe space', replacing them with boring nerds and frightening looking men in dresses.
You can gauge a speedrunner on their ability to adapt. ClintStevens got literally every possible mishap exercised and memorized through his run. If anything goes wrong, he goes onto another path. You see the virgin AGDQ tranny go "t-this has never happened before!" and then they panic and load a save.

The combination between his autistic knowledge of pokemon, the gambling nature of his speedrun choice, and his uniquely Australian personality makes for genuinely fun moments.

They're fun when there isn't a ton of boring glitching going on. Like jumping autisticly in a corner for three minutes until the collision detection gives up and now the player is outside of the map and walks five minutes in a void to get to the exit trigger. Light glitching like managing to launch the character onto a ledge to bypass a large portion of the map while on the next map it is another glitch/exploit that actually shows something about how the game works, that's fun to watch.
'heh, they're really good programmers' *snorts, walks through grey void for a total of 40 minutes* is not fun.

There was a Sly Cooper run on one of the marathon channels a few weeks ago (it may have been Frame Fatales) where the runner tried for a door clip for something like 10 minutes to the point where it made them go over estimate. Seeing something like that take so long just seems weird in contrast to skips like this horrific thing in Paper Mario that the runners of that game grind out over and over for a few hours until they can pull it off live within a few tries with consistency. Speedruns should be the runners showboating their skill, not doing a shitty let's play with speedrun notes.

The kind of speedrun I hate the most are the ones that allow savestates, really common in FPSs like Half-Life and DOOM.

What's the point of that, the runner who has the faster SSD gets the world record? If you made a mistake, restart the game like a man, coward.

I like Werster too but I still think he's a potential lolcow. It seems pretty easy to make him fly into tard rage.

Oh man guys, do you remember that time that GDQ was starting twelve hours from now and nobody gave a damn because it didn't involve meeting in person?

Well, whatever. Here's a list of runs I think are worth watching (all times are Eastern, as god intended):

Sunday:
11:30 am- Preshow. Enjoy the lonely, lonely skits.
1:10 pm- Streets of Rage 4, hot new game of the year, run by GDQ creator Mike Uyama. Guess he called dibs...

Monday:
6-11:30 am- NES block. Kid Icarus in 26 minutes? Fucking hell.
11:48 am- Oblivion in 40 minutes. "No out of bounds." I played that turd-pile back in the day and don't understand how this possible.

Tuesday:
Abso-fucking-lutely nothing of note. Lizstar (mtf) is on mic in the morning for Genesis block so 4chan will have its fill.

Wednesday:
4:51 am- Eat Girl. As Meat Boy is to SMB, Eat Girl is to Pac-Man. Run is twelve minutes long and probably worth watching. Shame its on at 5 in the morning.
9:38 am- Virtual Boy Warioland. Wonder how they will show VB output on camera, its not like the 3D was integral to the gameplay.
3:57-8:40 pm- Sonic block. First hour is the semi-cringey fan-game turned commercial release, Freedom Planet, and last hour is Heroes so feel free to skip those if you just want Genesis. Lizstar on mic again for those who need a trigger warning.

Thursday:
12-4:20 am- I'm not sure if this is supposed to be Awful Block but it certainly looks like it.
10-1 pm- Doom Block. Usually fun, some other 90s shooters mixed in.
9 pm- Half-Life Alyx. New game. This is gonna make us all vomit, right?
10:00 pm- Doom Eternal. Come back at 10 for another one of the year's hot new games.

Friday:
1:40-3:10 pm Mario block. Mario 1 and 2 (JP) races. Only three runners for 1 but 4 for 2. I've never heard of these runners, the A-team is sitting this year out.
6:30-8:10 pm Zelda BotW gimmick percent. All dog quests, for those curious.

Saturday:
12:00-8:00 am FFVII Remake. The 7+ hour "speed run." One of the biggest new games of the year, etc. Only a single runner, no runner change outs here.
3:09-3:21 pm Super Smash Bros. 64 blind-fold break everyone's targets. This is the marathon's gimmick run, I guess. But it looks un-inspired to me.

Sunday:
12:00 am Ending. Zoom chat thing, I guess?

This shit's gonna be bland as fuck without the crowd. Too many troons peacocking... or... Peahenning?

Gotta get that sweet sweet validation by... nabbing an early slot on a popular game at the show you run.

These could be cool. Oldschool speedruns are always neat and the Bethesda runs are nutty.

gotta put the troon on the mic I guess. Same shit as usual. Least there wont be any """panty""" slips.

Pretty sure VB capture has existed for a while. Looks exactly as youd expect it too. iirc virtual boy emulation has also been possible for a while so thats probably how its being played

Have you seen the crowd these last few years? A literal graveyard has more life in it than that lethargic bunch. I honestly think not having a crowd might make it more lively, not less.

The schedule, which I forgot to link like the moron I am, says its being played on a real VB. Historically they've always told the truth on that. Maybe its different without the tech team to hook the VB into comp but this guy is a VB runner so I assume he has the tools for it at home.

Last time I saw the crowd, it included some dude sniffing a girls seat after she left. Crowd shots are a sin against god.

To their credit, Liz is at least a competent runner with experience with nearly ever Genesis game you can think of, so it's a pretty sensible place for the diversity quota to be met. Though Lizstar's consistent refusal to even try affecting a feminine voice could make for some...interesting comments. Personally, I prefer the "obviously a man" voice to the "obviously a man trying to sound like a woman" voice, but YMMV.
