Yeah but thats because as far as the event is concerned its not about the runners its about the event and the people watching. People donating are their customers and this is how they pander to them and idiots will pay stupid amounts of money for what is nothing more than an acknowledgement both for speedrun events and general live streams.

Its also a big part of reminding people that this year's GDQ is more than just five people talking on zoom (even though thats sort of what it is this time.)

I don't know what's up with their scheduling today. Less than 12 hours in and they're already 2 1/2 hours behind. It's not like they haven't done online only marathons before, I'm not sure what's going on here.

They are only one hour behind. SoM was supposed to start at 10:19, its now starting at 11:16. That also syncs almost perfectly with the nearly one hour delay to the start of the marathon. Why they haven't been actively making that time up, on the other hand, is a mystery to me.

The schedule live updates, so you're probably looking at it from a few hours ago if it shows 10:19. If you look at the schedule from before the start of the marathon, SoM was scheduled to start at 9:10. So yeah, not 2 1/2 hours, just 2 hours. But still.

This run is a trainwreck. It sounds like a construction site in this runner's house. Fix your fucking sound set-up dude. And SoM has such good music too....

Didn't see the schedule before now, . Seems like they're really hurting for runners given most of the stuff being run, maybe everyone's just overtired from the constant online marathons.

Never thought I'd see Silhouette Mirage being run though in any form. The best 2D action game ever that nobody knows about.

The Mario & Luigi : Paper Jam run should be worth watching. I remember them debating including it in some other marathon a year or so ago due to it being a 2-hour run with the proponents pointing out how it was nonstop gamebreaking because of how much of a technical shitshow the game was, and now the estimate is an hour. I expect amusement.

All of the speedrun events get obnoxious with the donations. I'm not sure why they thought it was a good experience to constantly interrupt the runners with the callouts.

I knew this would happen eventually. It's like a big "I'm a tranny" sticker. It was stealthy the first time because everyone was on board, but in the chaos of organizing the online event none of the normal people were asked for or requested pronouns, so Lizstar is left exposed.

I have yet to see any women on, has anyone else, and if so have they had the pronoun label on?

I can't remember what actual event it was or what game was being run where there was an actual legit female runner. May have been on Frame Fatales or some such.

There are female runners out there. They are just incredibly rare and most run really obscure games with I think the only really well known game being run by female runners is Yoshi's Island Tetris Attack. It's a shame, I'd like to see more actual chicks run games. I can't relate to troons because I'm not a troon.

This is why they (not just GDQ, but a lot of others) are trying to 'normalize pronouns', or outright make them mandatory to state. Because they know that nobody sane uses them.

They're rare on GDQ, but a little more common on ESA and the other platforms. Definitely by no means in the majority, but not as invisible as they are at GDQ. I agree with the obscure game part, but there are also some who run longer RPG games, which are sometimes a challenge to get into GDQ. I also think they tend to be on the blander side in terms of personality so they end up being forgettable.

There was a (legit) chick running The Lion King earlier today too, and had (what sounded like) an actual female commentary couch to boot.

Guess it's easier to get the ladies to run when they're not surrounded by autists and troglodytes in skirts trying to be them.

I did a gender count last marathon and it was something like 3 ladies, 6 "ladies" and 160 men.

Only natal female runner I can think of who's a major community participant is Pidge_01, who's pretty much the authority on mario rpg speedrunning and internals and hates gamer girl cams so much that her personal webcam is a gameboy camera. I think she was the frame fatales runner.

Most of the female speed runners I've encounters are in the horror game space. Which I know GDQ tends to avoid.
